Overall, I thought 2004 was a good year for most cars, looking forward to 05 releases
As far as the five that made the list, I don't agree with two of them. Acura RL & Caddy STS, I drove both new cars (my friends have them) and I felt they were great and should not have been on that list (the reasons autospies gave were not very convincing )
The other three cars, Honday Odessey, Ford Five Hundred/Mercury Montego and Jeep Cherokee, I can see why they are on the list, espeically Ford & Mecury. I test drove both and found them to be very uncomfortable for new cars

What are they smoking? The RL is awesome to drive, no 5-series, but it's not bad. Also, they bash the 500/Montego for it not being like the 300C. Some people buy comfortable cars and don't really look at performance. I have seen so many on the streets, way more than the 300C.

I test drove both the Five Hundred and Montego, and from personal experience, I can tell you those two car were okay, just okay. Nothing to rave about them.
New cars generally excite me, but sitting in those two cars felt like they should have been released in the 90s (purely my own opinions). Both cars felt stiff and I didn't feel comfortable at all while test driving them, performance aside.
300 was (and still is) a great success, but I feel the same results would not apply to Five Hundred/Montego. The sale of these two cars have not been great so far here in the Tri-State area, and the only one I saw was a Montego, with DC plates.

Wow, an entire list of BS. I'd expect nothing less than this from them.
I wonder how the Odyssey is a dissapointment, because of its fuel-effecient multi-displacement engine, because of its active noise canceling, or is it the lazy susan storage that hides the middle rows middle seat when its not needed? Or perhaps its just because it looks like nothing else on the market and has a slew of original technology for minivans? I'm sure the dealers secretly tell you they're dissapointed, in you.
So the only thing good about the RL is the center console? What about the most advanced all wheel drive on the planet? Drive it before you critique it guys.
The 500/Montego might not be a 300C, but they're from Ford! Not to mention they were good enough to beat the Avalon and LaCrosse by Motor Trend. I trust a long standing magazine who tested those three and the 300C side by side much more than I trust you guys.
The best you guys have for the Cherokee is that the front end looks bad? Come on guys, give me something hard to shoot down. The powerful V8 with great acceleration and the great off-roadability of this thing doesn't make up for a weak front end design? Give me a break.
As for the STS, so it doesn't look like the Sixteen and the rappers don't like it. Since when have rappers been the definitive automotive authority, and since when has a totally unrelated concept stacked up against a real car? Forget the great interior and the sharp looks, some guy who makes up words so he can do a rhyme doesn't like it! It must suck!

what's interesting is that all 5 of the cars on that list are actually very well-rounded and capable vehicles
-the odyssey is easily the best minivan on the market (at least tied with the sienna). not innovative? riiiight: like redline said, it has cylinder shutoff and active noise cancelling.
-the RL is also, like the odyssey, an excellent car. styling is subjective, but the mentally-subnormal autospies critics don't seem to know that.
-i really can't see why the grand cherokee is dissapointing; everyone, not just autospies, seems to say so. its got some nice engines and is capable off-road, and the interior is of at least decent quality.
-the STS, IMO, is one of the most competitive automobiles ever made by any american manufacturer, in pretty much every characteristic (even materials quality hasn't been critisized). that's in no way disappointing.
-so the five hundred/montego doesn't look as ground-breaking as the 300. so what. the five hundred is a very well-rounded car, with good quality, nice (if bland) styling, a roomy interior and trunk, and good handling for such a large car. the worst thing about it is the engine, and rumor has it ford will replace that engine with a 200+ hp duratec 35 engine in 2006 or 2007.

Oooh...this car doesn't look cool..so it must suck over all...EEEWWW!!!!.........Auto Lies sound like they are 13 year old girls...*****ing about design when they don't even know what design truly is...Redline already said what I had to say...
My parents have an 03 odyssey...and I'm not ashamed to drive that van...240hp V-Tec engine...leaves most cars in the dust (notice..i don't race it but sometimes I have punch it a little bit) and the 05 odyssey isn't better looking than the one my parents have but I wouldn't mind if my parents got the new one instead...more features than b4.
I drove the RL with my cousin...and I won't say that it's a sports car...but it can definately handle...the AWD system is no joke...and it doesn't look all that bad either not to mention the interior is beautiful and the GPS/Sat Nav is awesome.
I haven't driven the 500 but my friend said that it's nice from the inside and the outside looks way better than the previous cars (taurous..spelling) and also I think..doesn't it come with the AWD option?
I haven't driven the Cherokee but it looks awesome on the road...the front isn't all that bad looking in person...IMO
And the STS...IMO it's no 5 series or A6 or E series...but the thing is that it's no longer an Old person's car...the styling is very fresh and new.....It looks good in my opinion..but I would never choose it over the Germans but It's definately not a dissapointment.
These guys are idiots....period.

If you'd analyze each model closely and realize how good they are suited to customers' needs and wants at a resesonable price you wouldn't necessarily have excitement over Lexus but rather a certain amount of respect.

BTW - they are dissapointing because so much more was expected from them... When you get an bland, boring, almost bad car from Kia, it is not dissapointing. When you get that from major manufacturer, especially if it is new version of once awesome car.... 500 looks like 5 year old Japaneese car, Jeep is an huge and total miss, RL isnt as good as press releases say and is too expensive, Honda's minivan is nothign exciting, it looks by far as the most boring thing that came ever and is not as advanced as the last one was when it came...

What I wrote on AutoSpies.com in the comment section under the article.
http://www.autospies.com/artic...=3782
bluedevil1550 - 1/1/2005 10:39:33 PM
Title: What??
Comment: I totally do not agree with your comments on the cars that you guys see as dissapointing.
First of all, the Odyssey may be bland compared to the Quest, but it shouldnt be seen as a dissapointment. A lot of people who buy minivans arent looking for bold styling, and you guys are forgetting about all the technological advances it has (cylinder shutoff, lasy susan) And don't forget that Honda does not take too many chances with designs in the US.
The RL is one of the nicest luxury sedans out there. From the dashboards design to thew advanced 4 wheel drive system, there is not enough wrong with this car to call it a dissapointment.
I agree with the 500/Montego
The Grand Cherokee was dissapointing to me at first because of the lack of consistency in the design (angular rear, rounded front) but the HEMI engine and all of its technological advances make up for most of it.
The STS may not be as bold as Cadillacs other designs (XLR,CTS) but the car is well made for a GM and has a design that is not offensive, and appeals to a lot of people.

WTF, they're "disapointed" in the 500 just becasue it's not a 300C. So I bet then that they're going to be disapointed in the next Avalon as well because it's not like a 300C. IMO, the 300 will sell like the PT Cruiser, good at first, then the sales drop. With the 500 though, sales will most likely stay at a constant level...
Oh yeah, did you guys notice that there were not any Mercedes-Benz automobiles? And also, it seems like there are little MB ads on the bottom of each picture
