Outside North America the 1.6 - 2-liter models are important for compact sedans. Subaru Impreza's 1.6 produces 95bhp and their 2-liter produces 125bhp.
Thats weaker than the 1.6 - 2-liter models of its japanese competitors. I guess thats the reason the base engine of the WRX in North America is a huge 2.5 liter engine.
In my country the only Impreza being sold is the 227bhp WRX turbo model, its priced above the mid-size Camry V6 and Accord V6. Well cars like this are low volume "niche market" cars here in South East Asia.... I guess they thought that the low end Impreza's are too weak and will destroy the image of the WRX turbo.
Any news if they will ever upgrade their low-end non-turbo engines?
A stronger 115bhp 1.6 and 150bhp 2-liter would be more in tune with the Impreza's sporty image.
