What was the strategy of toyota/lexus when they decided to produce the new Avalon? With options it tops out at almost 40K: same as the ES. Similar size with the toyota having more power and a few key features like climate-controlled seats.
Why would anybody buy a lexus ES now instead of the Avalon? The name badge? In my opinion the ES now has no purpose unless they just wanted to give people two versions of the same car in hope to increase overall sales.

People will still buy a Lexus becuase it has an L instead of a T on the grill.

I'd rather the 'T" as the "L' looks so bloddy ugly, just a stupid Camry with leather and massive pointless headlights...the Avalon is a good looking car, im loving this Toyota (dont get any ideas, i still hate toyota tho...)

I guess the ES should be the sportier sedan while the Avalon is the longer more traditional large Family car.

Wait for the new ES, most likely it will top the Avalon...
Correct me if I'm wrong, the current ES is a few years old...yet, as many here have mentioned, sales are still strong, much better than the outgoing Avalon

Buy an Avalon and put Lexus badges on it!
