The out going one was one hell of a fun drive, but there were always some very un-lexus interior design choices and fit and finish. Here's hoping the new one addresses those short comings.

The new IS, as much as i loved the old one this one looks more sporty and luxurious, and the old one is beginning to look old compared with the new one

i thought the old one looked great until naga compared it with the new one...now it looks ancient and boxy. the interior should be an improvement over the old one, and i'm sure the driving experience is at least as good as before. hopefully the new one is roomier too. so yeah, definitely the new one.

The new one is 100% better than the old one.
The old interior was very strange and unLexus like but the new interior/exterior is
I can't believe it, but I acutually prefer the old looks to the new one. It seems a bit more conservative IMO, and I'm also not a big fan of those Sonata rear lights on the new one.

Me Uncle has the Old Lexus IS200....ive driven it ALOT... i love that car...actually im hoping to get it off him at the end of the year... coz he is gettin the CLS350 or GS430 or maybe the new IS250...
I think the old one is a true sports sedan...no luxury stuff in it....just blak leather and a beautiful dash board....no space at the rear (therefore no sisters/cusins can come when i drive)...and its handling is great too....but power it lacked
So i voted for the NEW IS coz better engines, looks better (but no longer has the sports sedan look) I cant wait to c what the wagon, coupe and convertible looks like

the old one looks too old and unfit for the market

New one definitely. It a lot more elegant and classy and a lot less sporty, just what i like in a car.

The old one had the chrono type gauges and a bit of flair, the new one looks like it has pretty much everything else. New one wins.

Looks like I am the only one who likes the current gen more, maybe pictures of the new one outside will change my mind.

I still prefer the old-generation's exterior styling, but there's no denying the superb engine choices, electronic management systems, and excellent interior of the new IS.

New one, of course:
-New diesel engine unit which is the best diesel in its class.
-nice illumination gauges
-better center console
-excellent side profile
-lots of engine choices, in general

and especially
-the gear shifter (for the auto tranny)

How do u know it's the best diesel engine in its class when it hasn't even been tested yet?!

Well, numbers are a good start: 2.2l for 177 hp and 40 kgm is not bad at all. And given that Ford has a 2.2l with 40kgm as well, but only 155hp, i think that this engine will rev up a lot for a diesel. All those are good signs, aren't they?

Hmm.... well it says in the article posted by lexus-europe.com
and
if you were to compare this to Honda's i-CTDI diesel unit, the new diesel engine of Lexus wins in power outputs.

Lexus (177 ps) vs. Honda (140 ps)

Definitely Current one. The only Lexus I ever liked, it had its wow factor. The new one may be better, but its just boring, IMO.

What about numbers comparing the new BMW diesels in the E90 3 Series with the IS?

well... the 320d is not even close when it comes to the torque.. but then again its "only" a 2liter
but what i good is that the wheight of the 320d compared to the output.. gives people a good idea of the preformance of the IS220d
remember.. the engien in the is220d is mutch lighter then that of the currant Toyota 2liter diesel.. witch probebly is mutch the same as the BMW 2liter diesel..
so .. judgeing my the BMW .. the IS220d should have a 0-60/100 in the low 8sec

PS: BMW 2liter diesel spec
163hp @ 4000rpm
340Nm @ 2000rpm (about 34,5kgm)
ohh and BMW 2,5liter diesel make 400Nm (40kgm)
Oh and that Ford crap (sorry) does NOT have a output of 400Nm/40kgm.. the spec say 360Nm/36kgm.... it only makes 400Nm when it goes into "Overboost".. so its cheating
Oh and Merc 2,2liter diesel spec
150hp @ 4200rpm
340Nm @ 2000rpm
Hondas 2,2liter diesel
140hp @ 4000rpm
340Nm @ 2000rpm
and VW/Audis 2,5 V6 diesel
165hp @ 4000rpm
350Nm @ 1500-30000rpm
looks like it really is true ... it IS the strongest on the marked..
not only i torque.. but also in Hp ..
and i even beets the big boys 6cylinders..

cool

Every single test i've read of it puts it as the best engine in the category (and i mean Laguna, 407, Vectra, etc likes).
Second: you call it cheating, i call it smart technology. The extra power is there when you really need it, but not during the average driving when what you want is low fuel consumption. Why force the engine when you don't need it at all?
Third: yes it DOES have that output. It gave above 165 hp in the dyno test when AUTOPISTA magazine tested it as well.
Please think twice before posting silly statements.
