What vehicles need to be redesigned the most? What would you change?
I got this topic from the Autoweek forums and thought it would be interesting.
My List:
Acura NSX - Still a nice car after over a decade without a redesign, but it is in desperate need for onre now.
Audi Line up- Get rid off the big grills up front.
Chevy - V8 in the Colorado, more sporty Monte Carlo that matches the power of the new V8 under the hood. And PLEASE do something with the Suburban/Tahoe!
Chrysler - Toss the PT Cruiser so that Chrysler can go upmarket, and give Dodge a crossover like the Caliber
Maybach - Ultra Luxury convertible based on the SL
Nissan - Convertible and coupe versions of the Altima to compete with the Solara, Sentra coupe
Scion - Hardtop convertible version of tC?
That's it for right now....

actually, the colorado will be getting V8 pretty soon actually...probably in the form of an SS version using the 5.3...the LS2 is a possibility as it is being used in the TB SS, but then again, with LS2 power, the colorado might encroach too much on silverado SS territry being that it is lighter...I don't even know if the engine bay in the 'rado can fit an LS2...it probably can, but chances are they will use the 5.3...

'rado SS should have aspiration of some sort, its a great package, just not incredibly fast one

good thread...bluedevil1550,
here is my opinions of your list...hope you like it
acura nsx...too little interest of the car (at least of the price), not worth it for a redesign
audi lineup - yes, get rid of that ugly look big a** front grille, change them back to the previous gen
Chevy - trucks & suvs are fine, redesign the entire car lineup, even the new monte carlo and impala (coming later this year) need another make up IMO
Chrysler - they are fine, I think the entire lineup is cool where they are
Maybach - same reasons as Acura NSX
Nissan - nissan does not need a convertible to compete withe Solara, nissan needs to continue to revise the altima to compete with the camry, this is coming from a solara owner
Scion - no need for a convertible version of the tC, it's supposed to be have inexpensive cars

I'm confused. are your lists of cars that need a redesign or cars that you wish existed? I agree that the NSX is seriously long on the tooth (even if it's still beautiful). IMO, however, no car currentrly is in worse need of a complete redesign as the Saturn Ion. I also feel that the BMW Z4 could benefit from a redone front end treatment that is less toothy.
As for Audi, I LOVE the big hungry grill. Heck I'd be happy if it was even more pronounced (with thicker chrome toward the interior of the car, sort of like bugatti does it).

Well you are not mentioning any cars from emerging markets....There are several that could use a good action by part of a re-design and/or freshining!

Chevy Silverado/Suburban/Tahoe and all the clones of it. Ford Minivans, riding on the old Windstar platform, Mitsubishi Montero and Lancer. Nissan Sentra could use a moderate styling refresh and a lower price for what is offered. All the other offenders have replacements coming realtively soon.

2006 Dodge Charger needs a restyle to get rid of the flying fist look. What happened to the graceful show car with the Charger name? More hints of the 68 Charger should have been incorporated and none of the Ram truck nose.

Chrysler Sebring it is getting old needs to go know that Chrysler has the Pt Cruiser converatble and the Crossfire do they need the Sebring version?
Cadillac Escalade- It needs to be more distintive from the Tahoe/Denali
Dodge Neon- It is way past due for a makeover.
Ford Focus- Sell the new C-1 based version in the U.S.
Ford Crown Vicky- It just needs to go away.
Lincoln Town Car & LS- They need to build something buyers actually WANT.
Toyota Camry-Sure it's a good car, but YAWN.

The stratus replacement is on the way (let me know if im wrong), but it stratus is a major snore. with all the new sheetmetal at dodge, the current model doesnt match any of its siblings.
Thw Sebring also needs replacement, and hopfully it will look like the airflite concept.

Monte-Carlo desperately needs to be changed to RWD and the Crown Victoria should be replaced by an Aussie Falcon.

Tonight I can think of only one car that needs to be redone, the Ion. The car just got a new grille and it looks even more distasteful (to me). I dont want to bash the car because i have driven it and the new improvments (thank you cobalt) make this car a nice ride. The sheetmetal just doesnt do the car justice. I think a little Opel influence would do this car good. Saturn cant have beautiful cars like the Aura and sky on the lot and have an ordinary car parked next to them. If Saturn wants to move up in the world, the WHOLE line up needs to be great.

saturn ion - like the others mentioned, it's more in need of a redesign than most other cars out there
GM full-size SUVs - mainly the interior needs a redo, the quality isn't too good
ford minivans - i'd say 500/freestyle/S80 etc. platform would be a good base, or if that wouldn't allow folding seats, then the mazda6 platform (although that might be too small)
GM minivans - complete redo, malibu platform, better interior materials, and the 3.6-liter V6 GM seems to not want to use in most of their cars
chrysler sebring/dodge stratus - fortunately a replacement is on the way
dodge neon - same as sebring/stratus
nissan sentra - getting old and very outdated, bring over a restyled tiida sedan (the one they sell in asia is a bit odd-looking to do very well here)
toyota tundra - needs to be bigger if they want to compete, and a redesign is apparently about a year away (i think)
DCX minivans - the current ones are still competitive IMO, but they're starting to fall behind a little (except in interior flexibility) different styling, a bigger engine, and improved interior materials would help
chevy trailblazer/GMC envoy/buick rainier/etc etc - current one is cheap inside, has mediocre handling compared to the competition, and unimpressive crast test results for a modern car; it has a nice engine though
ford crown vic - i doubt they'll make the rumored falcon-based replacement, but it would be nice
ford focus - still near the top of its class in the USA, but a C1-based version would dominate it
ford ranger - it's now the only compact pickup that hasn't been redesigned yet (heck, it's the only compact pickup left now that all the others are "midsize"); although it still gets the job done IMO
toyota camry - actually it doesn't need a redesign that much, but since it'll be getting one in a year, i just hope they put the avalon's 280-hp engine in it (as long as they minimize torque steer) and try to make it a little sportier
lexus LS - needs to be restyled to fit in with the new GS and IS; they also need to work on the chassis, but otherwise the current car is great

This will give the car a more timeless look, look better and most of all become better balanced which makes it better to drive. All they have to do is have an axle divided into 3 parts: 1 to go from the tranny to wherever it is to cover the engine's width, then the 2nd one would stretch from that point to go along the engine's length to however long they want to pull the wheels to the front. And the 3rd will go from that joint to the wheels. The first 2 will be attached to the frame on each end, while the 3rd one is attached only on one end and the other end will be on the wheel. Same as Mercedes's AWD. I hope this makes sense, maybe there was a better way to put it.

I agree that the Stratus/Sebring replacements are way over-due, but say that the other Chrysler convertibles are enough is plain nonsense. The Sebring convertible has been one of, if not the, best selling convertibles in the country for last 10 years or so. Getting rid of that would be foolish. Someone else mentioned that the PT Cruiser should be dropped to allow Chrysler to move upmarket. While I agree that it's holding Chrysler back a bit, getting rid of a vehicle that sold something like 116k units last year would be insane. The PT Cruiser was to be the model that saved Plymouth (Plymouth Truck, they changed it later to Personal Transportation). Plymouth sold a ton their last year even with products that weren't unique and not all of them transferred over into Dodge sales. I think the only justifiable reason for getting rid of Plymouth, would be so that you could bring it back in 5 years better than ever, but that's not gonna happen.
