I`ve been thinking about what we know about Lexus and what they have planed for europe..
fist lets see what we "know"
- The new IS is made for europeans (meaning Diesel and better suspension)
- The new GS is made with europe in mind (meaning better suspension..)
- The Euro SC is getting a new suspension (true..)
But if they want to sell more cars i europe.. they need to offer more engines, diesel engines as well..
the diesel engine we know is comming.. to the IS, but now news about a 6cylinder diesel for the high end IS and the GS,
and now .. it looks like the 2,5liter V6 is the base engine for the IS (next to the 2,2liter I4 Diesel)
This is a mistake, and i hope they know it.
the New IS is fighting against well known models in there home continent, the Audi A4, BMW 3-series and Merc C-class are all bigg sellers.. and none of them have a 2,5liter 6cylinder as a base.. and that is why they are bigg sellers..
The Audi A4 has a 1,6liter I4 as its base modell, the BMW 3series has a 1,8liter I4 as a base and the Merc C-class has a 1,8liter as a base.
and Lexus wants to compete against them, with a 2,5liter V6 as base model? thats not crazy... thats stupid..
To sell bigg in europe.. Lexus needs a smaller engine (or 2) in the IS.. and the GS...
Why the GS? lets see..
The Audi A6 has a 2,4liter V6 as a base, BMW 5-series has a 2,2liter I6 as a base and Merc E-class has a (2.2diesel and a) 1,8liter supercharged I4 as a base
and what about the GS? it has a 3liter V6 as base model.. thats not as crazy as the IS.. but its not smart
The GS should have the 2,5liter V6 and at least 2 diesel engines as well for europe
and the IS whould at least have a 2liter as well for europe.. the currant IS200 is known for being sluggish.. so a 2liter V6/I6 is not the key here..
but Toyota/Lexus has a grate engine in the Altezza RS200.. the 3s-ge 2liter I4 Dual-VVTi and 210Hp
It is known for beeing sluggish at low rpms.. but they can fiks that by killing some of the top end horses.. bring that down to 180hp.. and im happy..
this is what Lexus needs.. and i hope they know it..
anyone want to comment?
(i must remind you all that the 2,5liter V6 and 3,5liter V6 is not offisial.. yet)
U hava point there....even when Lexus bring Hybrid models out....yes theyll have better fuel consumption then the base BMW's, Merc's and Audi's...BUT theyre Retail Prices will be alot higher...just look at the Toyota Pruis, highly priced...and in its price range there are cars perform better and are bigger...)
I dont know, i live in Australia and dont think this matters here...i think
But yeah maybe the Lexus range could do wit some smaller engine entry models...or u can just getta Toyota??

wonderful how the 5 series' engine lineup spans from a 2.2? L i6 to a 5.5 L V10 :)
toyota wants to establish Lexus as a competitive Luxury marque in europe first ( hasnt quite happened yet) and then they can put small engines in the car to become Volume Luxury
start w/ mid and highend engine choices and (hopefully) expand in both directions - the Diesel IS is hopefully going to help establish Lexus -
i do also think the LS needs a V6 model for asian and european markets - but for now Toyota's aim is not to sell alot of Lexuses in Europe, simply to make them a legitimate Luxury competitor
( and then theres Toyota that lacks basic common sense sometimes and does dumb things )

im also betting that the IS 250 in europe will match the price of competitor's smaller engines and less standard features

yeah, taxes based on engine size; i do agree that not offering an engine smaller than 2.5 isnt going to help much - and the 2L inline 6 most definately wouldnt fit - and theres never been such thing as a petrol 4 cylinder toyota
alot depends on that diesel i guess

i think that a lower output 3S-GE is the key to selling big i europe..
im shure that the geeks at Toyota can fiks the low end torque by killing some of the high end.. torque..
4cylinder is not the end of the world :P
just look at Merc and BMW..
