OK, so my Dad's deciding the next family car, and he wants a minivan. He narrowed the list to the 2005 Honda Odyssey LX and the 2005 Toyota Sienna LE. I would like to hear what you guys think is better, maybe from past experiences or something and a good reason or two. Oh yes, he is very concerned about safety, and fuel economy...

Well i guess he did very good coming down to the last 2 because they are the best. Now the Sienna LE and Odyssey LX, Safety Odyssey offers it all at no extra charge while Sienna is by packages so the Odyssey wins it. Fuel Economy the Odyssey LX gets 19/25, Sienna LE gets 19/26 so i guess Sienna wins on this. The Odyssey LX (which is the lowest end model) does not have color keyed doorhandles, bodyside moldings, or side mirrors and it also doesnt come with a roof rack even though is an option. The Sienna does have color keyed everything and does come with a roof rack as standard.
I personally vote for the Odyssey LX because its got all the safety features as standard, whcih Sienna doesnt and can get pricey if you opted for them and also because to me the Odyssey looks better than the Sienna.
To help you better here is a Vehicle Comparion on the 2005 Honda Odyssey LX and the 2005 Toyota Siena LE.
Edmunds Vehicle Comparison

Hm... the choices are somewhat unbalanced.
It'd probably make more sense to compare bween an Odyssey LX and a Sienna CE or an Odyssey EX (w/o leather) with a Sienna LE....

I actually thought about that too but LX and LE both have very similar base prices so maybe thats why he picked these two. Odyssey EX wins hands down against the Sienna LE.
Odyssey LX:
 255-hp, 3.5-liter, 24-valve SOHC VTEC V-6 engine
 5-speed automatic transmission
 ULEV-2 emissions rating
 Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
 Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD)
 Brake assist
 Drive-by-Wire Throttle System
Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control
 4-wheel independent suspension
 4-wheel disc brakes
Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure
Front, side and side-curtain airbags with rollover sensor
 120-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with 4 speakers
Air conditioning (manual, front and rear)
Power windows (front and 2nd row)
 Electronic cruise control
 15 beverage holders
 In-floor storage (2nd row)
 One-motion 60/40 split 3rd-row Magic Seat
 Dual sliding doors
 Maintenance minder system
 Retractable center tray table
 Map lights (all rows)
Odyssey EX:
All LX features plus:
 Alloy wheels
 Power sliding doors
120-watt AM/FM/XM-ready/6-disc in-dash CD changer audio system with 6 speakers
Tri-zone climate control (automatic front, manual rear)
 Roof rails
 Heated power mirrors
 Auto-off headlights
 HomeLink remote system
 Conversation mirror with sunglasses holder
 Steering wheel-mounted controls
 Ambient console lighting
Driver's seat with 8-way power adjustment
Driver's seat with manual lumbar support
 Stowable 2nd-row PlusOne Seat
 Integrated sunshades (2nd-row)
 In-floor storage with Lazy Susan
 Security system
 Cargo net
 Exterior temperature indicator.
So EX gives you ALOT more. LX is $24,995.00. EX is $27,995.00.
The Odyssey LX (Base) comes with all of these standard.
I prefer the Odyssey myself, but I'm just wondering if other people have opinions or something to say about them.
Player4, I wish he could get a Odyssey EX, but we're not the wealthiest family in the world

Yea i was gonna say that too. You cant go wrong with any of the 2 BUT as most of the people doing car shopping safety is a MUST then the Odyssey is better.
PS. Have you order the brochures of each? they are very helpful

Haha, thanks! Whatever the car, I'll post pics and tell you guyswhat I think of it!
Also, not only are we going minivan shopping this weekend, but we're also going to the... Lamborghini dealer! My brother's friend's uncle is a mechanic at the Lamborghini dealer here in San Francisco, and he told my Dad to call him up sometime on a weekend this month, and that we could go down to the dealer, check out all of the cars, and possibly get a ride in a Lambo!

Hey dawgs... So anyway, we decided to look for a 2002+ used Honda Odysseys (Dad's really concerned about safety, those models have 4 wheel discs, not to mention we didn't need a new one). So we got a grey, 2002 Odyssey EX with about 33,000 miles today
Got a good deal on it too... 7 year/100,000 mile warrenty was included, another dealer nearby was asking $1,500 for the same warrenty (Not to mention their vehicles wern't "Honda Certified", whatever that means). That same dealer also listed a 2003 Oyssey with about 20,000 miles at $22,000 in the paper, but when we got there, it was really $26,000 (Warrenty wasn't included either, was dirty inside).
