I heard this argument several times, once here and another time at a bar while downing yeagermeisters w/ others. Can the Kia Rio be considered a sports car?

I would say NO. But then again, I've never driven one, and for a 95 hp car they do seem to have a nice top speed. I've seen those things bust 100 mph's with relative ease.

I'll refer you to Top Gear's 12/26 episode. Then you tell me.

of course not. Kia Rio is just a car for the masses. it has a nice design (i actually like it) but it cannot be characterized as a sports car. it's just a nice cheap small family car.

Just add some wings, lowered suspension and supercharged 2L engine and it becomes one. he he.

And I *almost* feel compelled to just automatically agree with you by default. Hard for me to believe that a cutesy looking car that only costs between $5000-$9000 brand new is a sports car. But let's define what a sports car is? Are we talking Ferrari? Acura NSX? RSX? Could a Nissan 240SX be a sports car? A Geo Storm? A Suzuki Swift? There are some cheap sports cars out there...

If you come from owning a BMW, it's probably not going to seem like a sports car.
If you come from owning a Trabant or Lada, then I bet it'll be the sportiest car you've owned...
