was in the shop just just looking through EVO magazine and they had a story about a 9ff beating the McLaren F1's record by 1MPH does anyone know anymore info.heres what i got from the EVO site
It has taken almost ten years, but finally another road car has travelled faster than the McLaren F1's famous 240.1mph. The story of how the tiny German tuning company 9ff achieved the new record speed starts is fully explained in this month's issue.

I believe the Lingenfelter TT 427 vette has gone faster than that, and it is a street legal car...though I am not positive on that, and it is a one-off production car...

Doesn't the Koenigsegg CCR already faster than the F1, but they just haven't independantly tested it yet?

At 254 mph, it smokes the F1 by 14 mph (which is virtually running by) with all the amenities of home (A/C, etc. thank you) and runs the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds to the F1's 11.6. Gees if you are going to include tunner cars or specialty built machines, you might as well throw in some salt flat racers, which most definitely go faster.
Let's stick to actual production cars.

the Koenigsegg dealer here clames that the CCR has been taken to 415km/h , but its not yet official. (they have so far sold 2! one CC8S and one CCR)
(they actualy got the orange CCR that was shown at geneva when it was lanched)
oh and by the way ..
http://www.koenigsegg.com/ <-- "Koenigsegg CCR has been awarded the world record for the category "Most powerful production car". The previous record holder was the Koenigsegg CC8S."
and they list the top speed as being "395+ km/h (242+ mph)"
BeeMer Boi, that's a tuner car - of course, when you throw tuners into the mix, the top speed threshold is rasied right up.

heres what i found
Tuner Jan Fatthauer had prepared for this moment in his modified GT3 for a year. He hired a racetrack and organised doctors and firefighters, but they weren't needed - there was no incident. Quite the opposite. With his 840hp he set a world speed record for road registered cars by recording 388 kph, guaranteeing him a place in the Guiness Book of World Records. This record was previously held by a McLaren with a speed of 386 kph.
Fatthauser is now king of the tuners as a result. It took a lot of work and money - 537,000 Swiss Francs was invested in the car. Partners included the tire manufacturer Continental, and the supplier Raid.
To be certain of recording the speed at the crucial moment, there were 3 GPS devices in the car, one overseen by a lawyer.
Fatthauser was delighted at the end, saying: "The best thing about the record is that my son Jannes told me on the phone that I was a superhero to him, his little brother and their mum."

Ah well, since we are adding anything that goes fast, then the fastest car in the world is the Thrust SSC:

Top Speed (can go faster but driver feared it would go airborne): Mach 1.02. Two way average record run of 763.035 mph
Now that we have finally decended into stupidity, can we please go back to talking about actual production cars?

Got to agree with Santeno on that one, Tuner cars don't count. Until the CCR is Officially tested, the F1 is still the fastest car. The CCr with its specs looks like it can take the top spot.

put a catalytic converter, 4 bottles of Nawz and 2 garret turbos on a F1 car and you got an even faster car, and you also see SantenoRio's point
