View Full Version : 2006 Lexus ES 350?

I haven't seen anything on this yet other than a target date but I can't help but be interested, especially if it's a step above the 05' Avalon. One can only assume they'll use the new 3.5 V6 so I presume the designation of 350 would be appropriate.
Based upon the looks of the new GS and the proclaimed target of the BMW crowd, I'm hopeful of bigger things for the dowdy ES.
Just figured I'd at least start a thread about it..........

should work since the solara SE and camry SE are expected to get the 3.5 ( which isnt based on the current 3.0 and 3.3 )

thats the rumor that went around, only SE Camrys get the 3.3 right now ( maybe the other solaras, but not the non-le camry sedans )
the 3.3 has replaced the 3.0 in all applications in North America except the Camry LE and XLE V6, rather strange, i guess the 3.5 is the global V6 solution

if it happens, i would wager it happening mid to late 05, a few months after the Avalon comes in but before Toyota throws another swing at Detroit's domination over the Fullsize Truck segment which would also debut a new 8 cylinder truck engine ( hopefully larger than 5.2 L )

it might happen with the redesign in 2007

The 280hp 3.5L V6 in the GS would be of a great advantage to the lexus, IMO it looks a lot more elegant than the brash looking infinity M35 and M45. I also expect the lexus to be lighter since its dimensions are similar to the E-class whereas the infinity M45is closer to S-class size.

The M35/45 is not going to be much larger than the new GS.
One thing that seems crazy to me is a 280hp camry. The solara I can sourt of understand as it is supposed to be more upscale and a competitor to the G35 coupe. But the family car camry with 280hp seems way too much for the category. It would definately be fine for the new IS and GS, and maybe the current ES. Woulnd't seem that bad in the RX.
As for the larger v-8 engine... It seems like that it wold be a comptetitor to the nissan's endurace v-8 since the current 4.7L even with VVT is considerably weaker. A 5.0-5.5 L with 300+ hp and 350+ ft-lbs of torque would work great for all of their larger suvs and trucks (sequoya, LX, GX, land cruiser, and 4runner).
