I think beside each car should have a link to its repective thread, if one is available. So that when voting begins, prospective voters can have a chance to review each car (its design, performance, usefulness, appeal, improvement, etc) before simply by voting based on factors such as its brand name, owner's loyalities, and others.
Just a thought...

I don't think those cars on the list were in any particular order - it just happened that the 300 is at the top, probably just coincidence

I am not sure whether or not it would qualify for this year's COTY ('04 worldwide releases), that's up to the mods over here. Um, this is a tough one, any thoughts?
What are your reasons for nominating this car? BTW, I like your choice

Ehm.....it is a 2005, not a 2004 model. (at least in the US it is)

The new Golf V was launched this year wasnt it? It was in Australia anyway? I think its pretty good, because they didnt ruin the good parts, and improved the not so good parts. Mabey no Focus or 3, but there are 2 spots left.

Check on Volvo's site; the new S40 is listed as a 2005, regardless of when it was actually debuted

Taking a quick peak of the lists that have been generated so far, every car up there is either brand new or has been redesigned and newly introduced for 2004.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the S40, it's a great car, but the updated version (2004.5 - which includes the T5) has been out for over a year now (it was first introduced in 2003). As I said before, let's leave it up to the mods to decide on this one, since it's not totally clear.
BTW, can someone provide some reasons to nominate this car (if it is chosen to be nominated)? thanks

Sadly to say, you are still quite mistaken. In NA, this car is, at the very least a 2004 model. (even though it is listed as a 2005 on Ford Media, with the 2004 and previous models being the old version). Needless to say, you have included other cars on the list that don't belong. The Hyundai Sonata is a 2006 model, not a 2005, and the Audi A8 is a 2003 model (defeats your own argument, doesn't it?).
Anywho, here are the reasons for the S40:
-Interior-Offers 100% unique interior design with the floating center stack that allows the S40 to be the only car out there to offer storage between the center stack and firewall.
-Performance-Engines are powerful, especially in the T5 version, yet economical
-AWD-Only one other maker offers AWD in this class, and it not only adds to the performance capabilities of this car, but is also a genuine safety feature
-Safety-it is a Volvo, and it acts like one when it comes to safety
-Design-Recognizably Volvo, yet also modern automotive design, the S40 comes across as the next generation of Volvo cars
-Overall package-A great family car that comes in a variety of shapes and flavors, from a Family Hauler in the form of the V50, to a performance sedan in the AWD T5, it clicks all the right buttons and strikes out on a bold new sedan direction for Volvo

First of all, thanks! I like the S40, and I wanted to include it as well, but everyone appeared to be very technical, in the old site, so I thought strict rules were to be followed, as far as consideration of release dates.
For the year of release, I was going with worldwide release dates (the time when a car is first released, regardless of where in the world). So,
S40 (revision - 2004.5) - first released in 2003, as a 2004 model.
Minor and facelifted changes were made for the 2005 model.
Hyundai Sonata - I agree with you, as a '06 model, in N.A. But, at least in Korea and Europe, it was released in 2004.
Audi A8 - in 2004, two new versions came out, 1) swb - slotting below the 04 model 2) 6.0L W12 450hp slotting above the 04 model, these two versions, plus the regular A8, are available now, as a 2005 model.
I did not come up with the list...many of us nominated to generate this comprehensive list

Modified by knicks125 at 9:17 PM 12/27/2004

I see where we are getting our lines crossed. When we talk about model year, we are talking about the year that the model actually goes on sale, not when it is introduced. So the S40 would be a 2004.5, the Sonata would be a 2005, and the A8 would still be a 2004.

Guys, we are not going by model year, we are going by unveiling date. If it was unveiled since January 1, 2004 it's fair game
Please check the dates these cars were unveiled before we vote on this
Remember we are grading on three things:
Significance
Respecting its own name
how good it seems based upon initial examination

Due to the criteria then, the following models are not eligible:
-Audi A8 (debuted in 2002, and W12 debuted in December 2003)
-Aston Martin DB9 (debuted in September 2003)
-Mazda 3 is out (debuted July 2003)
-1-series is out (debuted September 2003)
The rest of the vehicles are ok, but we need to replace the ones that are out.
S40 is out, unveiled in August, 2003
V50 is out, unveiled December, 2003
A8 and A8-W12 are both out.
The BMW 1 series is out, unveiled in September, 2003
Last version of the DB9 was unveiled in November, 2003, so it's out
Mazda3 is out, was unveiled in July, 2003
So from that, the new list is
<$30k
1) Hyundai Sonata
2) Ford Focus
3) Citroen C4
4) Scion TC
>$30k
1) Chrysler 300C
2) Audi A6
3) Chevrolet Corvette C6
4) BMW M5
5) Acura RL
6) Mercedes Benz CLS
Two more spots are open for <$30k.
