Sometimes the most beautiful things are also the most mundane. The most stunning forms, vibrant colors, and interesting textures are all too often right under our noses--in the natural environment around us. Contemporary design has alternately shunned and embraced Nature; your task here is to use it to your fullest advantage. Find your inspiration in an element of nature and design a vehicle around it, taking care to balance the high technology of tomorrow's automobile with the natural integrity of your inspiration object. This is the perfect chance to explore the boundaries of your creativity and to expand the common perception of what constitutes a "car." Remember to blend form and function; use the innate beauty and practicality of nature to your benefit.
This contest will close on September 18th. Good luck designers!

Wow, you went from concept to execution with kakapoopie's contest idea in no time flat, Domino. Nice contest logo too.
The variety of designs on this one will be very interesting. Good luck to all!

Thanks man.
Question for my own clarification; are we including animals here or just inanimate objects?

I assume nature is everything not man made.
Though I guess this contest would be infinitely harder if we excluded animals haha

hmmm interesting. This comes at an excellent time, I'm currently working on my portfolio and I think this idea will contribute nicely. Though no renders from me this time.

This contest has completely stumped me.
I did a sketch of a car that had a leaf as an inspiration for the styling, but then I thought "Well, it's still a car and it hasn't got any environmental credentials"
I thought of doing something revolutionary, but my mind is too messed up at the moment to contemplate things like that.
I may just submit my 'leaf' - just please don't laugh!

The Axis Aegis Concept serves as a design exploration, experimenting with shape and technology some of which will trickle down to the forthcoming model.
An aegis is defined as being a shield. The exterior of the Aegis is made from 100%
recyclable polycarbonate thermoplastic polymer ( widely known for its temperature resistance, impact resistance and easy moldability.) The exterior design was inspired by elements of nature such as; tree bark, turtle shells, rock formations and foliage, these cues are translated in the form of the complex surfacing seen on the Aegis.
Power will come from the new family of Hy-Tech diesel/electric engines currently being developed at Axis and is expected to put out as much as 300hp. The Aegis as well as the Aeon2 will make their debut at the 2007 Tokyo Autoshow.

I think the reason for practically no entries was the difficulty. The 'no animals' restriction probably was a bad idea, since there are several animals that could be inspiring.

we could have at least allowed animal shaped rocks...

The point of these contests is, at least in part, to challenge your creativity and expand your imagination. And there was plenty of initial interest in the topic.

there is nothing difficult about this at all, if anything this is the easiest, just expand the deadline into october...I should have some time this weekend to sketch somethings up...
and so noone gets bored waiting for this to die, start another small, short contest to pacify their urge to start another contest.

It uses the latest solar technology to power itself, producing the equivalent of 80 hp. It uses no complex hybrid system with electric motors and gasoline engines, and you dont have to worry about filling up the tank.
You think driving at night will be a problem? Well, the Leaf Car can store up to 6 hours worth of energy in its batteries.........
Okay i have no idea what I'm talking about so I'll stop now.
I know the sketch is far from perfect...so don't scrutinize it too closely.
And it's not really very original is it? NYIAS 2010: Introducing the Earth-inspired 2010 EI-C. It is a hybrid minicar that gets 70 mpg city, 65 mpg highway, and rivals the Smart ForTwo and Toyota Yaris. The EI-C would be priced in the $5,000-$8,000 range. The grille is reminiscent of the United States. Several nature elements were included to develop the car, such as wood, plastic, tree bark, and recycled rubber.

After being unable to make it to Frankfurt, Vector Precision Motors has invited members of the press to a secret location within Germany for the unveiling of the new brand with the Vector Leaf Concept. A Rear wheel drive mid engined coupe is expected to debut in the next few days.

Quote, originally posted by Vector Precision Motors AG, Germany »

We are very excited and proud to bravely break out of our history of custom or coach building cars for private customers by releasing our design, engineering and technologies to the world. Benchmarked on the Ariel Atom, the "Leaf Concept" features aerodynamic efficiency with smooth surfaces. Combined with a supercharged 1.8L I4 engine pouring out 293bhp, this beast runs from 0-100km/h in an astonishing 2.6 seconds to match the Atom. The 7hp difference between the Atom and the Leaf is compensated by a lighter and more aerodynamic body made of 80%% carbon fiber, 10% lightweight aluminium and 10% plastic.
Getting in and out of this two seater cabin is made easy by a fighter jet style glass panel which surrounds the whole cabin and slides up at the touch of a button.
Steering is also a major part of the Leaf's identity. Don't let the name fool you, because this car doesn't use leaf springs. In fact, the complex F1 style front suspension and the equally complex multi link rear suspension paired with extra sticky Pirelli tires gives this car the ability to create well over 1G of force during cornering.
However, no car inspired by nature would go without minimising harmful impacts to it's inspiration. Combined with lightweight body, a small engine and a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed dual clutch automatic(RSG - Rapid Shift Gearbox), it manages to minimalise harmful emissions and has earned a PZEV rating in some states. These stats also reward the driver by kepping the running costs down at a very low 7.8L/100km (combined city/highway).
More information will be available at the launch of the Leaf early next year. These exact specs are expected to make it into limited production as is the design. Other names are also being reviewed for the production car.

Now you can close the contest...
