Its dimunitive dimensions, peppy powertrains, and grin-inducing dynamics made it an enthusiast favorite, while a practical design, renowned reliability, and impressive economy meant it was sensible enough for everyday use. Like the first-gen VW GTI, the CRX is remembered fondly by drivers who hope to see it reincarnated. And with the recent worldwide resurgence of "hot hatches," buoyed by the concurrent rise of "tuner culture," the future looks bright for the CRX.
Now fast forward a decade. It's 2017 and you're tasked with recreating this iconic hatchback. Bear in mind that the CRX was never about excess; what it lacked in power and presence it made up for with an unparalleled blend of efficiency and fun. Your design should retain these core values while taking the CRX one big step into the future.
This contest will close August 24th.

I like this idea, though 2017 may be a bit too far ahead. But it's an opportunity to go wild.
It will probably take me a while to get something in though, I'm busy for the next two weeks and then I would have to start the drawings and the rendering and ahhhhhh.

I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to make this one either. I've got a couple of ideas but I'm not sure I'll have the time to go all out.

Then I think the best thing to do would be to extend it by a week or so, perhaps make it go until the beginning of september.

We'll see how many entries we have by the designated closing date first, because I want to stress again that I'd rather the contests not go on forever.

wow, that's one creative entry! Love the H-shaped hood, great idea. The drawing looks a little flat though (squashed vertically) and the rims look odd, but otherwise nice work!
Update on my entry, after many ideation doodles I have my design set, and the actual drawing will shortly follow. Then next week I move on to rendering! And I have some great ideas for that, and it will no doubt make my TVR look bad in comparison!

Introducing the 2017 Honda CRX Hybrid Vehicle (CHV)
With the complete domination of environmentally friendly vehicles and cut down of high performance petrol vehicles in the past few years Honda has now brought out a well performing environmentally friendly vehicle. Badged a CRX, it has many features and cues used on previous CRX models. However 2 doors was seen as impractical and an extra 2 doors have been incorporated into the design. Using a suicide door type configuration, access to the rear is very easy. The hybrid "power depot" produces 145kw at 7 500rpm and a smooth 0-100km/h accelleration of just 6 seconds. It's 8 speed automatic is the most innovative and smooth gearbox ever designed by Honda. Top Speed is 120mp/h limited. Taking just 15 seconds to reach it. Honda claim the "Self-Drive-System" SDS allows the driver to relax and enjoy the ride on freeways and long distance trips tat have been co-ordinated and will take the occupants safely to the chosen destination on the state of the art navigation system.
CRX is now more grown up and faster than ever...

VexedandGlorious ~ Nice looking little car, but I see very little honda in it, I don't know if that's a good thing or not. It also looks a bit small. Regardless design-wise it is fairly creative, and original, and it looks good. Nice technique as well.
mrfdesign ~ Nice futuristic design, and great presentation. However I think it could benifit from darker lines or more contrast (the sketch). Also a tip on posting images, I don't know what you're doing, but I suspect you're copying and pasting the wrong link from image shack, I see you have the image tags, but the wrong link was pasted between them. You have to copy and paste the link that ends in .jpg and then paste it between the image tags.
using the link http://img409.imageshack.us/my...5.jpg

No offense but a designers job is to create a brands image and drg...this is just a concept of how I think a honda nose should look futher down the line...extremely pushed back headlamps...a forward snout...mix-match fender flares...a flat curvy front...it pays homage to cars of the 1920'shttp://www.oldrhinebeck.org/co...k.jpg
Just so much more I could have done...particularlly with the DLO...and the greenhouse...and the graphics....i think ima take this up as a personal project....
I do agree its rather small but with 206 banging "Its a 2 seater" into everyones cranium, I couldn't get the look I wanted...LOL...I joke...
I am looking forward to your design and many others...

Here's my entry. I had a hard time settling on a single design theme. Part of me wanted to make it highly conceptual with a futuristic theme, but I did not want the identity of the CRX lost in the midst of radical styling. Important elements that I identified as critical to the look of the CRX were its ducktail rear deck, wraparound black side moulding, and distinct two-box hatch shape. It was difficult to pick one finalist, so I've included the evolution of several good ones. For the sake of voting, please judge by the last two sketches at bottom. For whatever reason, I feel the rear end of the one at the bottom is the most CRX-like, perhaps because it is meant to be squared off, although the side profile of it is rather poor. The front end is meant to be the one near the Honda logo at the top.
A few elements that I thought would be interesting additions were the inclusion of a larger glass roof. I figure that in ten years, panoramic glass roofs might become popular on smaller, more affordable cars.
I wanted to get this in before the deadline because I know I'm not gonna have much time to work on it for the rest of the week, so the sketches are a bit on the rough side but I gave it my best. It's not easy to reinvent the style of classic automotive icons!

hmmm im not trying to be an ass but arent u only allowed 1 design??? I dont tink he knows though. So mr driven by design pick one of those designs for your entry bud.
Kakapoopie ur design is well presented. However it doesnt have any "spark" or "wow" factor. And not too 2017 to me. But excellent presentation nonetheless.
Driven by design i'l comment on the chosen design once u've made it

At the risk of complicating the rules, I'll go ahead and let that one slide because, as driven by design mentions, it's more of an evolution of one design than several distinct designs (indeed, most fundamental elements seem to be shared between them). But for future reference, I'd like to reiterate mrfdesign's point that each entrant may only post one design. For the sake of simplicity.
By the way, sorry I haven't been commenting on everyone's designs. I try to give feedback as much as possible and I've just been really busy lately. So forgive me and if I have the chance I'll try to comment on each. Love the entries, though. Really great stuff, all

hey y'all...i stumbled across this section a few times, and i thought i'd give it a try...no illusions of winning though, it's the first design ever to leave my house , and I realize it is more of a contemporary than a futuristic design... but the real futuristic designs take so long to get used to (like..well...10 years?) and I only spent 15 minutes, plus I'm not experienced yet with perspective and shading and flame surfacing stuff, so that's why i kept it simple and square...blablabla...here it is:

oh yeah...the H-shaped grill frame is in brushed aluminum, and continues on the hood and it's also the a-pilar and roofline until c-pilar (middle of the roof is glass) all in brushed aluminum-look. normal models will have it with a clear coating. Performance models (type R and such) will have a transparent darker coating, making the brushed aluminum parts look anthracite.

World's first frontal pedestrian airbag and prevention system. The black strip is the nano-second sensor that automatically stops the vehicle in motion and activate the frontal pedestrian airbag. Using Apple's Accelerometer first incorporated in the iPhone ten years ago, the system senses the pedestrian's curvature and contact to the hood. In 0.0059 seconds, the frontal pedestrian airbag inflates on the hood causing a significantly less impact to the head. If the sensor detects the head about to make contact onto the windshield, the frontal curtain pedestrian airbag inflates from the windshield seal causing a significantly less impact.
2. The Panorama Glass Roof makes the new CRX a pseudo-convertible. The glass can slide open from the top of the front windshield to the bottom of the rear glass, creating a convertible-esque essence.
3. The CRX is powered by a 480 horsepower 0.4L electric powerplant that produces 509 lb.ft of torque. The SiR model boosts the standard engine to 520 horsepower via an additive of hydrogen. The electric cap on the side is very diminutive.
4. Since the 2012 Green Car Pact took effect, all North American vehicles require 0 drag aerodynamic wheels at the rear. Since the last barrel of gasoline was pumped in 2013 in Saudi Arabia, automakers such as Honda have been quick to develop innovative ideas to help lessen the impact of the end of a polluting, but crucial addition to society for the last 100 years.
5. DoMiNo- I like, but Seems Kinda Big for a CRX, especially since the CRX was Civic Based.

FlyinMonkey351- I love it. Simple, Futuristic and nice and Compact.

Cayma........um......er.........Nurburgring- Great, I think you've actually gotten better. The Grille and Front facia looks a Bit Dated compared to the rest of the car.

taskbearer- Great, Something I didn't see coming, the MR Setup. The Door is wayyyy too small, and the car looks a bit long for a CRX. (BTW, Horizontialy Placed means Transversly mounted)

taskbearer
08-24-2007, 10:45 PM
thanks for the comment. I thought since the engine is already transversely mounted i.e east to west. It would be redundant to refer to a transverse inline engine mounted on its side instead of upright or at an angle as transversely mounted.
The design allows for similar low center of gravity in a boxer enigine and more room for luggage above the engine.
to comment on the entries:
classic_saab_man - Clever integration of the Honda "H" logo into the bonnet. the front looks sweet and sleek and the profile is very dynamic. even with slightly off perspective, the design shows through.
mrfdesign - Very futuristic. the rear haunch is just splendid. I am not a lover of enclosed wheels, but your work has changed my views. One thing though. The presentation is a little cluttered and the first thing I notice when I look at it is the speedometer, then the fcx steering before I even notice that there is a beautiful design on the page. try toning them down or reducing the opacity so more attention would be drawn to the design.
Vexedadnglorious - wonderful sketch, very professional and a unique grille and hood treatment. The design is a little tall and looks more like a mini cooper rival than a crx revival. would love to see more iterations af that grille.
kakapoopie - neat design. Looks like its a car for today than 2017( same could be said for most entries) the front end is smart and simple, the rear end stays true to the original's. Love the presentation with the ideation sketches, shows a thinking designer.
driven by design - the least exciting for me. the design is has too much of the ford kinetic design bulkiness to it. In sharp contrast to the simple profile of the original crx. great sketches though.
puffhead Very cool profile and like the idea of the grille "H" extending to the back of the car. the headlights are a little too sedan like for the car and the sketch although with good perspective needs that extra effort to make it stand out.
206 - not the best of your work. the profile is very MR looking. with a very interesting front end design. great work.
Domino - a very dramatic design and presentation. the rear glass and crossbar tail light with crx decal is captivating. The 6 series-like taillight does not flow well with the rest of the design and looks kinda bulky. like 206, the profile also looks MR.
flyingmonkey351 - probably the design that stayed the closest to the spirit of the crx. Simple and straightforward added with some futurism for a truly appealing overall design. It looks very professional too.
Nurburgring - Like feature like the targa style roof and the sliding rear windows. The +400 hp is a bit much for a crx. Remember the crx is about affordable driving fun not drag racing. The front end design is a little fuzzy. The side looks very futuristic, but more suitable for a regular hatchback than the sporting nature of the crx.

Awesome entries everyone! this looks like its going to be a tough one.

It's curvy design is a mix of flow and counter-flow, each emphasizing a certain aspect of the vehicle. the side design line flows nicely with the belt line and both end at a striking side vent placed just behind the wheel-well, creating tension behind the wheels. The counter flow starts at the bottom side and carries over to the front end, emphasizing forward motion.
"If we look at the new CRX, we notice that all the design lines point towards the front and converge, like an arrow. "
Other highlights of the new design include larger more aggressive front air intakes as well as larger wheels. the new CRX also comes loaded with an intel Core Solo processor taking care of the vehicle's computing tasks. Higher end models come with more powerful Core 2 Duos and Core 2 Duo Extremes, with Core 2 Quads on the way for future models. Honda claims the new processors will help double the performance capabilities of the new CRX, but don't ask us how.
Expect to see the new CRX on dealer lots this fall.
