Thats great!!
It looks very sleek, and has a lot of Renault in it. Though it becomes 'drier' as you come closer to the rear.
Nice...

It's a Jaguar. I was thinking this could be either the new XJ or a different model...I don't know. Like the XJ220, it has a small twin turbo V6 which will save weight. Body is of course aluminum. So it's about the size of a CLS but much lighter. And faster.
You can ignore the top sketch because it's just a rough idea of what the rear might look like.
I shall post more sketches in the design section later.
Nice Jaguar.
I did a Volvo but i'm not to sure about entering it.

Fantastic entries so far. Here's my go:
Introducing the Alfa Romeo 9c Monza, the four-door flagship of the Alfa line and counterpart of the spectacular 8c Competizione. Positioned closer to the CLS in price than the extravagant Maserati Quattroporte, the Monza nonetheless shares the option of its Maserati cousin's 400hp V8 engine, mated to the consumer's choice of sequential and automatic gearboxes. Standard powertrain is the 3.2L, 260hp V6.

those are some very nice entries everyone. But i dont think i can enter this one, ive for some reason lost all interest in sketching cars, i dont know why but i hope my interest comes back before the deadline :(

03-28-2007, 06:50 PM
Same thing happened to me and my drawing skills are numb as of now. I'm regaining confidence and my Chrysler CUV project is going smooth as planned. Don't know if I'll enter in this one. I like the topic, but got no time.

03-28-2007, 07:01 PM
fantastic entries everyone...really, just about everyone has outdone themselves with their entries (and i mean everyone). and domino, your shading is just too good...how long do your drawings usually take btw?

03-28-2007, 08:25 PM
Thanks, SV. I think this one probably took 2 and a half or 3 hours, total. I sketched it out and let it sit for a few days before coloring it. I'd say that's pretty standard, for my sketches, but to be honest I'm not totally sure how long I spend on them.

I guess it wouldn't hurt
This is the Volvo S90[ or S70].It would be between the S60 and S80. It's a bit sloppy, but that's because I outlined it with a pen. You get the idea. Jairo, yours looks okay, but like Acura said, it twists. It starts out okay, but gradually starts to twist. You also showed too much of the other side in your front facia. At this view, the far headlight assembly wouldn't be in view.

Designwise, It's missing that simple curved edges feel of current volvos. IMO, it'd look better as a Chrysler.
Great entries so far everyone!

So far my vote goes to the alfa 9c .... Its the only car that would realistically rival the CLS. The renault is too much like an SUV.. Its a great drawing but doesnt resemble a 4 door coupe ... Hopefully mine will be up tomoro in time...

The Mitsubishi logo is housed in a huge grille emphasizing it's sheer power and enhancing it's aggression. Long roofline gives it a hatch opening at the rear for improved boot space.
LED spot lights are up to date with current technology.
The swooping bonnet adds to it's aggressive posture and stance.Air intakes are intergrated with the headlights.
You may think its a risky move for Mitsubishi to be opposing the likes of the CLs. Hi. This is my first time posting here, and here is my entry. The Mitsuoka Le Seyde. I like yours flyinmonkey, but it is a bit cartoonish. The super high beltline paired with little windows make for a "cartoony" look. I Do like the rims, stance and overall shape of the car. I also like that you kept the general shape of the Infiniti grille, but still changed it for a more of a 'racy' feel.

mrfdesign, I love your Mitsubishi, but it isn't very luxurious-looking (avant-garde?) and there are a few perspective flaws. Knowing fully well their company could not compete directly with the likes of the Mercedes S-Class and Lexus LS460, Infiniti decided to go a different direction with their next generation flagship model, the Q. Because Infiniti is known for sporty, stylish and dynamic vehicles, it was only natural their response to the flagship market would be mold-breakingly different.
The response is previewed with the Qoncept (Q Concept). It is a full-size "four door coupe," as is the current fashion. However, it is larger than the main "four-door coupe" on the market, the Mercedes CLS, as the Qoncept allows for flagship-like legroom in the rear. It is also projected to undercut its flagship competition in price, expected to be priced closer to the CLS than the S-Class.
The Qoncept is a collaboration between Infiniti and JC Design. One can immediately see design cues from both teams. L shaped head and taillamps, "blade" grille design, and several other cues come from Infiniti design, while layering rocker panels, taut complex waveform surfaces, and organic curves come from JC Design.
Infiniti hopes to capture the market and catapult their brand to a higher echelon with the sleek Qoncept and the new Q ship it foretells.

Hope you guys like it. Sorry for the late entry. It was a quick one but as you can tell it's mostly a potpurri of recycled design cues I've used before. I think it came together well but I have to admit it's not TERRIBLY original. Any comments are really appreciated!

04-03-2007, 08:59 PM
Knihc2008, not bad. I was thinking of doing an infiniti myself. But for some reason I thought infiniti and four door coupe just don't go well together.
there are some details that don't work for me (for an infiniti), and I think this would look better (with a few tweaks) with just two doors. The front looks OK. Nothing really new there. You can make the grill wider and the light sleeker. I dunno. The rear looks really sexy, though.
I know I haven't commented on others' sketches. Don't take it personally, please!

MRFdesign,
thanks for the compliments. I probably could've resketched it. I think I had enough time. I just...didn't. I actually didn't think there was much I could improve on it. I suck at shading.
And one thing that always happens to me, and really annoys me, is that if I try to draw a new, neater sketch of a car, it doesn't look the same. Something's always lost in translation. So if I come up with a good enough sketch the first time, I like to keep it.
This will continue until I decide to take more art courses.
Oh, and I love the hood on your mitsu. It kind of reminds me of the Granturismo from the front. A good thing.

sirius, thanks for the comments! I do agree this would look great as a 2-door too, but the competition called for a four door :/ There are several design cues that don't flow for an Infiniti, I admit, especially the side graphic. Thanks again for the comment!
or2001: fantastic. The detailing around the front is gorgeous. Maybe a bit too busy, but well executed. The car does look a little bit too fat, and i also get the feeling that it is a bit hatchback-y. Also, how do the doors work?
206: Nice. Like someone else said, you need to lose the triangular roof! Especially for a coupe concept, where roof silhouette is key. Also, not sure how the billowing side crease works on a Cadillac.
sirius: A very cool sketch. I absolutely love the front end, with the huge, imposing Jaguar grill. A couple of details are not terribly practical, like the sharp rear point and the huge headlamps, but this design has enormous potential. Please flesh it out!
Domino: Is it possible to catch up to you now? As far as rendering goes, your Alfa is FLAWLESS. The reflections, the tires, the headlamps, the shading, the chrome detailing, everything. It is absolutely magnificent, the way you're drawing. That said, the design itself is not one of my favorites. The front looks a bit overdone, with lots of air ducts and a spine-like grille that sort of looks like a horror movie mask (no offense). It all seems a bit too bold and too chunky for an otherwise very svelte and smooth design from the A-pillar back. I love the rocker panel; the curvature and the layering is absolutely elegant yet complex.
Jairo: your proportions and general shapre are not bad. The silhoutte of this car is clearly coupe-like (maybe extend the trunk a bit) The front is a little weird, though, and needs perspective work. Otherwise, a fine entry.
MRFdesign: I see the Lancer influence, and not a bad place to start. The car looks great but the front suffers a few perspective issues. Also, the hood curves down a LOT; I think it would look better with some space between the grille and the character line.
Kaishmo: retro cool! I see potential in this car. Tighten up the overhangs and try modernizing it a bit.
Flyinmonkey: very cool. I absolutely adore the front. It is mean and modern, and a viable direction for Infiniti to go. The side gets a bit bland and short, though. Still, fantastic front design.
Graffititech: awfully short rear door, eh? :P The drawing is a bit too messy to make out the finer details (like the headlamps), and I'd like to see a cleaner version. That said, i think the way the graphics on the side curve into each other and around is very cool, though I'm not sure how the actual surfacing around those lines would work out.
AXIS: gerat rendering as usual. Your lines are toned down from the last renderings from you I saw,and that's a good thing; this car is an improvment from previous work. I think the front is a little out of proportion, maybe a bit too large. Also, try to push your rear wheel inward a bit. Rear overhangs don't hurt too much, especially in a RWD coupe shape.
quattro: Definitely rough. Work on your lines a bit; they're very rough and thick. Trying starting with the wheels first, in a 3D perspective, and building up from there. I'd also suggest some simple box exercises in 3D, and then chiseling down a shape from there. Your design has potential but needs some practice!
bixenon: very cool presentation. The design is good. I love the stance this car has. The front is way too busy but I think "productionized," it would look really quite great, maybe without the LED's and the intake detailing on the sides. Also, the LED strip that goes down on the side doesn't match stylistically with any other shape on the car. minus that and the funky air dam detailing, and you've got a fantastic looking car. P.S. the roofline isn't very coupelike: try lowering the rear section of the roof a bit. Also, the front windshield is a bit out of proportion.
Mr Burns: I don't see any recycled design cues! haha, it looks like you ran out of room because the rear wheel looks a bit scrunched in to keep itself on the page :P A good, solid design with nice saturn cues. Would look great with a rear wheel that flared out more. Also, your door handles and rear view mirror are a bit small, which make the rest of the car look HUGE.

^^
lol yeah i ran out of space. I always seem to need more space whenever i draw, even when i use a full size 8 x 11 on its side (like i did with this one). I used to draw really small, and it was less frustrating, but in the effort to keep up with you guys ive since changed my ways :P

knihc2008
wow this is my new favourite design! I love it!!
I like the rear alot!!! the car just looks relly good in every way, its simple and curvy which makes for an exciting design, i see the G35 influence.
Rear wheel arch is amazing i love how it sticks out - looks awesomely aggressive, the pipes at the rear look large and sporty, also love how the front lights are the same shape as the rears! Gives it a nice relationship between the frnt of the car and the rear.
Mr Burns
I like your design, however its a better family sedan , doesnt look sleek enough to me. Needs to be flatter but its a good entry well done
