Wow that was fast! I've got to say Domino, this is probably the least impressive of your current designs (and you've had some really amazing designs lately so I guess that's not saying much). This design imo has a bit too many creases and lines to be really "L-Finesse" (there are three creases on the upper edge of the body alone and the rising one makes for a confusing mesh with the upper sharper shelf) and the wheelbase is really, really short. The doors are impractically long, or the seats are just impractically small and high off the ground. I suspect as a sketch this car probably looked a lot more dynamic but as a full-on render, it looks a bit... awkward? Sorry for the harsh crit :/

02-27-2007, 07:10 PM
i dont see how you fit'n two in the back...or lowing a top...
i have to agree with the man above me...i honestly aint know you did the sketchs untill i saw your name.it doesnt have the sexy proportions of the current car.im goning to be honest i though it was a IS chop when i fist saw it.
there isnt much form either, your "creases" are just lines...i dont likethe Riced out tail pipe either
and the body to dlo ratio isnt working
as for too many "creases" it nowhere as close as many as mines has...2010 Lexus SC500 coming soon...on vellum and all...

i must say Domino, the render is impressive (though i wish you would add some depth to those black lines with some white) but the design isnt working for me too well. The windshield imo is too low (convertible), and the beltline too high. The front end and the overall porportions give me an S2000 vibe.
I think it would be very good if you made it wider, and lowered the beltline. I dont mind the creases though, they dont bother me much.
mine should be up soon as well. Full on photoshop render, i think my best yet :)
Edit: Here's my entry
Sketch (not actual entry):

Render (actual entry)

Im quite proud of how this turned out, but there are some minor flaws here and there. I'm all for constructive criticism--key word being "constructive"--but it really irks me when someone rips into my designs for the sole reason of, well, ripping into them. I would never do that. Case in point, graffititech, it seems you've made a habit of trying to cut me down with your commentary without giving me any feedback I can use to improve. It's made doubly frustrating by the fact that you feel you can bless us with your comments and then talk about your own design, when in fact you rarely post your work (see last contest). You talk a pretty big game over at CDN, too, I've noticed, where you seem to have a similar aversion to actually contributing your own work. So do me a favor: get off your pedestal and come down here with the rest of us who are really just trying to have some fun. Leave your ego over at CDN, or kindly refrain from commenting on my designs.
Anyway, I'm withdrawing from this contest. Good luck to all.

02-28-2007, 10:24 AM
what?
no....don't withdraw! :(
i love your entry!
maybe it was said that it's not your best one (although i think it's very good), but it's still a great design and you've done it remarkably fast.
i really hope you'll re-enter the contest :)
and for the car itself...i really love your ps rendering. they look so...attractive and impressing. maybe you could've used deifferent front lights (comparing to the rear ones it's a bit confusing).
also, the car is very modern, and luxurious lol

Sorry you pulled out, Domino. I know my critiques are pretty rough as well, but your renders and designs are so good already any improvements I have to dig deep to find. Case in point, your Lexus had flawless rendering and some great surfaces, presented perfectly through photoshop. I also hope you'll re-present your entry, as any entry no matter how much flak it might get is still something you should be proud of.

I agree. The design wasnt bad, it was just that you've done better. That doesn't mean you should withdraw. After all, it's your design, if you think it's a good one, then enter it. IMO overall it was a high quality entry, the rendering was great.

here's my entry:
again, i did this in a short time, and it feels like there's something wrong with the back part, but i wasn't sure whether i'll be able to re-do it or not...

so basically, i think the design que's are obvious lol, with some extras i've added, like the R8-like metal part, which functions like the roll cage in older cabrio's, and the all-glass roof that folds into the roll cage if you want it to be a cabrio..
i thought about some more features but i can't remember them now

03-05-2007, 02:47 PM
to be honest thats the best sketch ive sen from you yet. very sharp and nice. noow hwat you really gotta work on is you line quality and your elipses. fix them things and youll be taking a big step forward.
or2001 nice sketch, nice idea for the rool bar, but i dont seen the lexus design cues, you should make it abit more distinctive from your other sketchs, i cant help but think of your pickup truck sketches.

03-05-2007, 02:50 PM
when i did the sketch i looked at some lexus' designs, so i think it does have them...
like the front and side intakes, the grill and the headlight (which i changed a bit)

03-05-2007, 03:53 PM
i sorta see them now, the grille takes from one of the concepts a bit. and head lamps. your grille is sorta round when lexus grilles are more squared off and straight.

Nice AXIS, your renders are getting better each time.
My design is a bit more aggressive (well, maybe a lot more aggressive).
Ive scraped the Lexus grille, basically ive made it look like a Supra rather then the old SC, but change is what Lexus need.

Graffititech, love the design, but the coloring really makes it messy. The sketches show a much cleaner and enjoyable car. I think the cleaner version is, in fact, very clean. I like that one a lot, though not sure what to make of the V-grille, or the fissure in the shoulder line? Also, the front air dam area seems too complex for L-Finesse.
AXIS, I'm not sure what I think of the idea of having two completely different cars under the same monkier. Regardless, your renders seem a bit... weird. There's just way too many lines and curves everywhere. This seems to be a polar opposite of the clean L-Finesse surfaces Lexus has been touting. I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at, to be honest. Also, the brown car seems to have an asymmetrical air dam? Both cars have stellar proportions; I love the stance on the brown one, especially the greenhouse (which, sorry to point this out again but, it seems to have TWO ridges on it alone?) and the blue one has a great forward lean to it.

03-12-2007, 11:11 AM
Very nice, but it does look a bit messy and the V-grille doesn't work for me.

03-12-2007, 11:29 AM
i must say that the headlight looks very similiar to my hyundai entry

03-12-2007, 12:25 PM
the resembalance is a pure mishap(and its only similar in the way i split my lamps, i wasnt looking at ur sketch when i did mines(i was in school when i did this)
thanks for the crits.an art teacher and I talked about the render, the one thing he pointed out to me was that the skecthes had more of "that look" than the render. its my second render of this car and my second ever on vellum at an angle.
L-Finesse is tough thing to grasp, the complex area on the side of the body is the reason there is an rear veiw, i had an idea but i couldnt put it to paper.the v in the grille is me just being me. odd.

03-12-2007, 03:14 PM
I'd just like to say that im now designing to practice rather than show (im sure most of you knew this as i dont really post my designs).
Im happy how this came out.
I put a lot of effort in the sketch, but when i started rendering by hand i realised i had picked up the first colours i saw instead of thinking about it.
However, i modified it on Photoshop, and its reasonably OK now.
But most importantly ive leant a lot from design this car.
Now, the car. I guessed i based it on a picture of the LFA concept, and on the old Supra.
I wanted to scrap the Lexus grille, and moreover, i wanted it to NOT look like a Merc (as i thinl Lexus' do IMO).
Well here is the ugly beast:
EDIT: Just rate the actualy design please! (not the random rubbish i put on the side)

I went a bit over the top on signing it and watermarking etc. Im just excited with the new brushes i downloaded.

Nice work Jairo, try expermienting a bit more, you have all the freedom you can have at such a young age (no offence, im 14 years old).
And yes, i thought the front looks a bit weird on my design, the sketch looked fine (i should have scanned it in before i rendered).
But now, learning is the most important thing to me, just practice, pratice, practice.
