Yes, you read that. Hyundai have commissoned a supercar, in order to improve their brand reputation. Call it a ''Halo''car.
Specifics are loose, it just needs to be in the supercar genre. Be it a coupe, convertibe, whatever. It's your choice.
Contest will end on the 12th of Febuary. If needed, extensions will be granted.
Good Luck

Thanks Domino! I do hope you'll join, I can't wait to see a supercar entry from you :P I know supercar really excites the mind but Hyundai doesn't, but I figured a supercar period would be too... easy. And general. And a supercar for a company that isn't know for supercars would be at once challenging but at the same time VERY open ended; it can be whatever shape, design and style you really want, guys!!! Have fun with it :)

It looks like I'll have a little bit of breathing room this weekend, work-wise, which is nice because it means I had a little time today to start my contest entry. I sat down and sketched out some stuff, but nothing really worked. It took a lot of brainstorming (i.e. doodling), but I finally managed to come up with a design that I was satisfied with. This is much tougher than I thought it would be. I'm hoping to have my design up tomorrow or Sunday.

Well I certainly didn't expect to be first in this contest, but here goes nothing.
The Hyundai "Aria" is the Korean brand's first foray into the high performance segment and is intended to compete with cars like the Audi R8, Porsche 911 Turbo, Corvette Z06, and Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Its mid-mounted V8 puts out an even 500 horses; 0-60mph should be around 4.0s, with a top speed of near 200mph. As a Hyundai, it will also represent a tremendous value, complete with Hyundai's standard warranty and a comparatively low MSRP.

sorry to rain on your parade but i dont enjoy it as much as the others do, its gets confusing to me,in the front...that front wheel throws me off in a way that i dont enjoy looking at the car from this view.the render could have more of a light source to give it "that look" instead of it just being colored and in a gray environment...the details like the lights are nice...but ive dwelled here long enough, if i can get my scanner up ill post my concept,in all its asian marker rendered self.

Thanks Domino and Axis for the support! I hope we get more entries in. Seems like the Design contests and even the Photoshop contests are dying down around here. Pretty sad, actually...
Anyway, I didn't have time to go balls-out detailed on this one, but I think the shape speaks for itself. I really like how this one turned out. It's swoopy, sexy, exotic and still very Hyundai. It's got shades of Hyundai's current design theme, or whatever design theme they may have, which was very difficult to do. All at the same time, it pushes Hyundai design forward and breathes a new breeze of confidence and life into the newly reemergent Hyundai brand. It is viewed as an Audi R8 competitor, with a lower price; a 400 horsepower V8 mid-mounted and exposed, for optimal viewed pleasure. The shapes and the lines of the car are at once complex yet serene, taut yet supple. Look at the lines pushing away from a distinctive Hyundai grille, curving out and up over the wheel arches. Look at the rear haunches, and the sensual dip before meeting the greenhouse, and the air intake optimally placed for air intake and pronunciation of shapes. At the back we see a very clever spoiler design which curves into engine heat exhaust vents. The front air dam vents are echoed at back, flanking a large front and center exhaust vent.
The Hyundai Aument

P.S. So, I managed to get some sort of entry finalised, although i was quite annoyed i didnt have time to do a render of the rear of the car, which is quite annoying. I have called this car the hyundai lima. It has quite a 'busy' design appearence, with lots of bodylines and curves (traditionally hallmarks of eastern concept design). although the car is not incrediblly sleek and slippery it has been designed with hyundais spoting heritage in mind, in the past years hyundai have ejoyed average success in the world rally championships, and this 4wd turbocharged supercar pays homage to this. It also takes some styling cues from the most sporty model in the hyundai range, the coupe. So in essence this car comes as the well deserved flagship that acts as a summary of the past and a guide for the future of hyundai's sporting side.
Please c&c
P.S both AXIS and knihc's designs are superb. I love AXIS's smooth lines and very impressive PS techniques, and i feel that knihc's design is so right for the design criteria that it could appear in the hyundai range now.

There we go! More entries! And great ones, at that.
knihc, I suppose it goes without saying that it's a brilliant sketch. With regard to the design as a whole, I think you've done a great job of interpreting the Hyundai design language in a bold new way. I think the vent high on the fender is a bit superfluous but I love how you've integrated it into the fender line, very nice touch. The front is nice, and I like how the intakes and headlamps flow so well into one another. The side, to me, is the most anonymous aspect. And personally, I would switch the license plate frame and exhaust... but that's merely preference. Awesome car, though I expected nothing less.

smoothstyle - a clear departure from other entries; the front with the LED headlamps and the wheels are particularly interesting. The proportions, however, are confusing... as with AXIS's design, I'm unsure whether to look at this as a front- or mid-engined car. The B-pillar treatment is rather abrupt, and the front overhang seems pretty long. I love all the glass, though, as well as the vent aft of the front wheel. Nice work.
or2001 - beautiful render; I see this as a sporty Hyundai, if not necessarily a halo car for the brand. It seems a little tall and... stubby for a supercar; like smoothstyle's entry, I could see this as a Rally-inspired sports car. The two-tone treatment is refreshing (if, as you mentioned, retro..which is not a bad thing at all), and the grille clearly Hyundai, but those details aside the car takes on a rather anonymous character, with sad eyes and a too-high butt. It's hard to fault your execution, but this design--in my own opinion--is not one of your best.
napoleondyna - Definitely a supercar. The stance is right-on, and the front is indisputably Hyundai, with what is perhaps the coolest headlamp/front intake treatment I've seen thusfar. the vertical arrangement is very original. The immense character upfront, however, is somewhat hindered by a late-80s/early-90s side treatment, with sharp vents and distracting creases that could have been so much better integrated. Still one of your best!!
knihc2008
02-15-2007, 01:02 AM
napoleondyna, I hate to say it but your front arrangement looks REALLY similar, aside from a switch in headlamp orientation...
Thanks for the comments Domino! I guess it's hard to design a particularly Hyundai-esque side when Hyundai itself doesn't have a very set design language. Still, I thought it evoked some Tiburon. As for the exhaust/license plate, I wanted to go for a Zonda-esque exhaust placement just for the heck of it, though I totally agree with you in a real life situation the exhaust would go in the bottom.
or2001: stunning render. There are some details i really like. The headlamps, for example, are a great shape, as are the taillamps. The two-tone gives it a funky vibe but it also makes the car look as though it's half made of matte black, ie Isuzu Vehicross. This coupled with a slightly high ride height makes the car look more 4x4 than supercar. I think lowered, with a monotone paint job, this car would look absolutely sinister.
Smoothstyle: a very funky entry. Abrupt b-pillar treatment. I like the side wave lines in concert with the very organic eye headlamps. However, in combination with the rectangular intake and the square b-pillar, it just doesn't flow all that well for me.
AXIS: I agree with Domino; this would make a great GT car. Also I find in general your designs have really long wheelbases and really short doors. The basic design is there; great lines, good looking front, a nice, sleek greenhouse. It just all needs to come together towards the center a little more.

Hello all, thank you very much for the c+c on my design it is very useful to get feedback. I will try and do a little for you guys aswell.
Domino: Immediately when i thought of hyundai, and designing an eastern car i thought, busy lines. Your design shows that you had similar thinking, the side profile is stunning with beautiful cut off sections and a swooping vent. The roof and boot get very Mclaren F1, not in a bad way and it compliments the design, apart from the sharpness of the bottom of the rear window, which seems a departure from the curverture of the rest of the cars lines. The front is all a little to aston for me im afraid, although i am a fan of the sharp angled headlights and the cut-away section directly infront of them. Interesting green running halogens and a lovely side window coupled with your fantastic PS skills make this a very tasty entry indeed.
Peugoet 206: I like the rear quater of this design alot, the air vent cuts nicely into the door line. i like the lights and the bonnetas they are fairly consistant with the design show on the rear section. Huge wheels make for a cartoony look though, work on your proportions a little and you will be doing well, as you certainly have the ideas.
AXIS: Your design appears very long, and im not sure whether its my eyes, but that rear wheel looks twisted. That said, the side profile is great and would look even better if it were shorter, the rear vent and C pillar compliment each other in design terms and i am a fan of that silver strip down the side, it sets the profile off. The front seems a little to busy for me though, but with a little work im sure it could be stunning. Nice one.
Knihc: Very much the way modern supercars are being designed at the moment, i think the R8 concept when i look at this, the rear is stunning, with that cut away engine cover and deep aerofoils, it looks smooth and tidy, very german though. I feel the side is a little to much, the vertiically opposed triangular vents, make it to busy for me im afraid (and im not sure whether that much cooling would be required?). Big fan of the front, all looks very nice and the features compliment each other, still a bit german though. Overall, great design.
or2001: I must agree with what has been said about the stubiness of this car, for me it looks more like a rival for the ford street ka, than an f430! That said, this is a beautiful render and very well visualised design. It looks very eastern in its appearence and the greylower section of the car that continues from the front looks great. The rear 3/4 view of this car is just brilliant, vent looks amazing, as do the rear lights, which sit nicely in proportion with the exhausts below. I love this design, im afraid its just not a supercar.
Napoleandyna: I like the front of this design, im not sure why but i think it is those vertical lamps and the cut away section infront of them. The side is too busy im afraid, nothing really flows there. From the B-pillar back, the roof is nice, the fuel cap was a nice touch. Much better proportions than on designs i have seen from you before though.

I wish i could change the side of my entry but i know its not allowed. knihc, my design was certainly inspired by yours but i had no intention of copying your work. Let me put it this way sincei dont want this to turn into a fiasco, i had your design in mind when making mine. I liked the front of it and thought it looked good so i decided to elaborate and put my own twist on it I suppose you could say.

It's okay! I'm honored my design was able to inspire someone. Thanks for being honest.

you will notice how the picture isnt very good quality because of the scanner i used. hope you can see the details clearly.
didnt have enough time to draw rear view because i only found this forum yesterday sorry!
The new HCD-11

This concept car is the new Hyundai HCD-11(Hyundai Concept Design). it is a performance-orientated mid-engine coupe with a 4.6 L V8 sending 340 horsepower to all four wheels. Acceleration from 0-60 mph is achieved in 4.1 seconds. For optimum braking performance, there are four slotted Brembo brakes which stops this 3000 lb. supercar from 60 mph in less than 110 feet if required. The quad exhaust pipes add on to the supercar feel by providing the maximum visual effect and the perfect exhaust note. Another noteworthy feature is the new Hyundai developed six-spoke 19 inch wheels with spokes extending to the run-flat tire's side-walls. There are two air-splitters below the front bumpers for maximum traction at high turbulence. A panoramic roof with sunshades that retracts from the overhead console is standard on the HCD-11.
thanks to "Mil" for letting me know how to upload this pic!!!
PS. im only in 8th grade/2nd grade in junior high school (dont know what you call it in the us ) in australia and i can only learn by drawing over and over again. this design is only my third attempt at a "3d" sketch so please give me tips on how to sketch better!!! please!!!

I just realized my entry was placed on the bottom of page 3 where it was likely to be ignored. I'm just moving it here (hopefully that doesn't break any rule):
Hyundai LSD-II with few styling cues taken from the current Santa Fe. Could be powered with some twin-turbo V6 wich can run on bio-petrol. Not sure about the other specs, but it's definitely the fastest and most expensive mass produced Hyundai ever.

stunning, really like the carbon effect on the wheels and vents, not sure about the front though, its a little bland. No denying that you have fantastic PS skills. Beautiful entry to look at, well worth the wait.
