Well, Prime ministers, presidents, senators, The Queen, The Pope - They all have special needs from a car.
Your task, should you chose to accept it, is to design a car for any Dignitary of your choice.
You have until Monday 4th of December, 2006
Good luck!
Congrats to DoMiNo for winning the previous contest (hence he gave me his idea for this one).

Wow. I really, really like it.
I toyed with the idea of bringing back Lincoln as the presidential ride, but none of the designs I came up with were nearly as bold and distinctive as yours. The long hood, the chopped greenhouse, the grille... a "strong, bold, American" design, just like you said. Very impressive.

Quote, originally posted by Reuters »

Tokyo The Imperial Household Agency announced today that it has commissioned the construction of a new automobile to celebrate the 73rd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor, Akihito. Toyota has undertaken the task of providing the Emperor and his family with a safe, luxurious, and state-of-the-art vehicle for transport and has unveiled its new Century Royal to fit the bill.
The new Century Royal represents a bold departure from the conservative design of its predecessor. Bringing it more in line with its production luxury brethren, the Century Royal has a sleek new shape complete with a slender greenhouse and confident new nose which maintains the prominent waterfall grille. Perched atop the long hood is a gold chrysanthemumthe Royal seal. This emblem is repeated on side pillars and in the sumptuous interior.
The liberal use of lightweight materials in the cars construction means the Century Royal weighs in at much less than the previous model, but the car is still equipped with the most cutting-edge security features, including heavy armoring and high-performance run-flat tires. Powering the car is Toyotas revolutionary hybrid V8 from its Lexus LS600h model: a 5.0 liter powerplant combined with high-output electric motors which work in concert to allow the performance of a V12 and the fuel economy of a V8. The Century Royal is the first hybrid motorcar in the service of a reining monarch.
Inside, the Century Royal epitomizes Japanese luxury, with active heated, cooled, reclining, and massaging bucket seats swathed in the very finest leather. Amenities are endless: footrests rise from the floor and a center console houses a refrigerated beverage compartment, controls for backseat audiovisual systems, climate controls, individual tray tables, and a communications center. The console itself is trimmed in richly-lacquered Japanese elm wood and polished pattern-welded steel (an homage to traditional Japanese blades). These materials also adorn other surfaces in the cabin. The roof and side glass is electronically-controlled, and offers settings from clear (for public viewing) to deeply-tinted, for privacy.
The new Toyota Century Royal represents the absolute cutting-edge in performance and luxury, a car truly fit for a king. It will go into service later this month, following a birthday ceremony for the Emperor at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

okay guys, i actually have an entry this time, the Cadillac XLS. i'm not too satisfied with how it came out (it scanned really badly and i don't know why); i know the front perspective is off too (so please criticize the styling, not perspective; i know what's wrong with the latter):

i wanted to do a press release and everything but it's late, i might edit one in tomorrow or something...

Sorry, can I ask for an extension? I realize it's already past the deadline but I still need time because I have finals until, well, tomorrow. After the weekend maybe?
SV, that car is CRAZY.I think it's far too radical for a dignitary car, but the rest of the car looks very sharp and nice, albeit a bit smaller than i would think a dignitary cary should be. I still think your reflections need to be toned down a bit as they take away from the car.
Domino, INSANE. The car looks great. Proportion-wise, your drawing starts to lok quite weird when it gets tot he back, but probably due to a fish-eye perspective. Love the interior; very Maybach esque.
AXIS, what a grand way to bring Lincoln back. This car is exactly what they need and it needs to be as bold and unabashedly American as your car is. The wheels are a bit off, especailly the front one, unless you intend to have them look that small on the car; otherwise, the front fender is far too tall. Otherwise, it looks great.

I've got a design! time to refine and fix the lines! I also want an extension, hopefully so I can make something sharper and produce an interior view as well.
SV, the design is great and its no doubt a cadillac, but the reflections are too distracting. We like the fact you're adding some realism, but its all too confusing =). I've got something a wee bit different, but hope you all like it!

nice evolution of caddys design lang. but its rather small.it isnt a radical design to me, but its a step. and like Knihc tone the reflections down, the first thing i noticed was the greys no the car itself. i had to fight to focus on the car itself.
keep sketching eh.

ok, here's my entry:

a redesigned cadillac DTS, featuring the extended "Executive" edition (shown). The new DTS elegantly redefines Cadillac's Art and Science design direction, yet maintains everything that made it's predecessor such a popular vehicle amongst high profile figures.
Inspired by the stance of a locomotive and the sheer awe of the stealth bomber, this new caddy is guaranteed to turn heads everywhere you go.
enjoy.

Mr. Burns
12-08-2006, 08:17 PM
Also, if you're wondering why it doesnt have mirrors, it's because in their place, the car has two small high quality cameras that capture everything and display it on you're windshield.

Yeah... I sort of left my markers in San Diego. heh heh. I'll post a pencil only drawing tonight.
edit: Okay here it is. Quick drawing. Long day. Don't really feel like getting into it. It's called the Cadillac XTS. And it's supposed to be a parade car of sorts, but it has a retractable three-piece hard top which allows the car to double as a supremely comfortable vehicle to drive dignitaries around in. Cadillac Art&Science design taken to the next level, merging sharp edges with curves and swoops, with two chrome bars starting at the sides of the grille and wrapping all the way to the rear edge of the passenger compartment. Enjoy!

Good looking car, knihc, and great idea with the retractable roof, though I think convertible parade cars were scrapped (at least in this country) after the JFK assassination...
