View Full Version : The Teenagers First Car

Aidan

A teenager's ideal first car. What does a teenager look for in his/her first car? What does a parent look for in their teenager's first car? Design what you think would be the ideal first car for a teenager, any brand you see fit, any type, body style, price range, etc.
About the closing date, i'm in London from the 27th till the 30th so would you guys prefer me to close it on the 26th or the 31st?
Good Luck

excellent contest choice!!
as for the closing date, I think we should decide a little closer to the 27th, because 12 days isn't alot of time to design cars, even one i predict will be as popular as this one.

Coupes or Hot Hatches.

StevenZoz
10-19-2006, 04:14 PM
just a little bit of input from a teen =].
sport sedans are hot. (audi a4, bmw 3, lexus is, etc)

Mr. Burns
10-19-2006, 06:14 PM
also (coming from another teen) large luxury cars are quite popular as well. of course, most people my age couldnt dream of affording new luxu cars, but cars like the last gen 7series, RL, ES and LS etc... are quite popular.
i was thinking of a hyundai that looks like a large luxury car, but is cheap.

acura.007
10-19-2006, 06:29 PM
i thinnk most teens would be able to afford a bmw 5 series so most of them are pretty rich. i think they would perfer more of a lux car with some sporty touches
My design will appeal to teens who can drive, and those who are about to turn 20. Basically university/college/working students and people who want to travel the world, I suspect. A car for themselves, that satisfies a dynamic lifestyle. An aggressive one too =)

Mazda Revives the MX-3 name with a sporty, economical hatchback whose spirited performance and myriad features will appeal to a savvy and demanding new generation of buyers.
The MX-3 is a slightly smaller car than the popular Mazda3. Its hatchback configuration is versatile, with clamshell access to the rear seats (which fold completely to create a large, flat load floor). The interior is fresh, with a sporty "ellipse" them, and is packed with features, including an 8-speaker Sony Xplod audio system with subwoofer and built-in expandable hard drive to store music (30GB standard). The sound system is fully iPod compatible, with a jack and storage cubby behind the center stack; a dash-mounted central interface wheel allows easy navigation of audio menus, as well as the trip computer and several other auxiliary settings. Cruise and audio controls are also mounted on the steering wheel. Sport mesh fabric grips the inhabitants of each seat, and is available in black with dark grey, blue, or red inserts. A choice of aluminum or carbon fiber-look trim complements the upholstery. Front and side curtain airbags highlight the multitude of safety features integrated into the MX-3.
Outside, the MX-3 wears visual cues from its concept car forebearers. The Kabura, Senku, and Sassou concepts have been subtly integrated into the MX's form, an aggressive shape set off by a bold iteration of the pentagonal Mazda grille, prominent intakes, slim amber-tinted head and foglamps, bulging fenders, and a sculpted hood. Massive alloy wheels are available and may be ordered with anodized aluminum accents in a variety of colors to suit the paint (Ibuki Blue finish shown).
Powered by the 16-valve, 2.0 liter I4 lifted from its MX-5 stablemate, the MX-3 enjoys typical Mazda performance. A five-speed automatic transmission (with manual shift feature) is standard; 6-speed manual is an option for enthusiasts. The powertrain provides the optimal balance of sport and economy desired by young buyers.

A car that fits the lifestyle of a urban person just starting life in bustling city. The next generation of drivers look for two things in their vehicles: Style and Technology. The Nissan Quarto has been designed exclusively with the next generation of drivers in mind.
Teenagers look for sleek style and novelty. The Quarto is not just another SUV, or just another sedan, or just another sports car. The Quarto is a crossover SUV with a coupe profile. It is, essentially, a four-door coupe SUV. The style is bold and trendy enough to carry any teenager to the trendiest club in style.
As the car is designed to cater to all demographics of teenagers, it must be a jack of all trades. Therefore, it has a higher seating position for those who want an SUV, a coupe-like profile and the Sentra SE-R's engine for those who want a sports car, and four doors, seating for five, and a large boot for those who need practicality. Inside, the Quarto features the MusicBox system first shown in the G35; the entire interior centers around the MusicBox control system; it is supported by an optional 10-speaker stereo system. Neon lights glow from under the dashboard to give the Quarto's interior a more club-like atmosphere.
The Quarto is trendy and techy but also cheap and safe, as a teenager's first car should mandate. For example, though the interior is stylish and very beautifully designed, it eschews fancy HVAC controls; however, they are integrated into the vents to make them look more special. Making a cheap vehicle does not mean design becomes a last priority; instead, design needs to be even more clever. The Quarto represents a plethora of novelties and design-slight-of-hands made to make the Quarto a special vehicle.
Specific design details are outlined in the second drawing.
So the render is ok... the front view came out kinda weird. Personally, the piece de resistance is the second drawing. But that's just my opinion.

Hello guys,
sorry for the late and very quick entry, but it was hard to find even some minutes for it.
Seat Tango 5Coup and refreshed Seat logo
The Seat Tango 5 door Coup is the first car in B segment adressed to sporty, young people, who want to show their personality in their car. Based on the Seat Ibiza, it's slighty shorter, but wider and lower than a Seat Len. It's strenghts are in the interior, where the Tango 5Coup can be personalised with stylish, modern colored trims. Offered as standard, the sound system is connectable to max. 1 iPod and two USB-MP3-players contemporary, positioned next to the centre console. The carbon applications in the centre console fit to the exterior, where the mirrors and the protections bars, which are positioned all around the car (a favorable apect since many new cars are produced without them), use a carbon-style, black syntethic material, just as the bumpers. Being based on black plastic, the material is much more convenient in case of damages, without appealing cheap.
The car is available with 1.4 and 1.6 litre, 16-valve petrol engines and two variations of the popular 1.9 TDI diesel powertrain.
---- In my opinion, we shouldn't only think about the design of such a car, but also about the economical and safety values. The car has to look good, but nevertheless has to offer all important covering in order to protect expensive body panels and keeping the maintenance costs low. And all at the expense of the styling.
In addition, we have to consider that the control of the whole car could trouble the young driver during the trip. So try to keep interiors as logical and easy as possible, without looking boring.
So finally, I want to thank knihc2008, who had the fabulous idea of this contest, which didn't ask only for styling, but also for rationality. ----

Last contest, I had a nearly complete entry, but sadly, MrLynch didn't accept or even receive my request on a little extension.
Good luck and please comment!

Introducing the 2007 Sze-Ng Marine.
Flowing, organic lines characterize the Marine. Dual diamond shaped sunroofs make a statement as they allow sunlight to pour into the spacious cabin. The ultimate compact crossover. Powered by a 160hp four cylinder. Rear split folding seats fold down completely to provide a completely flat loading area with over 60 cubic feet of cargo space. Completely adjustable cargo nets split the trunk into four sections so your cargo doesn't slide around. A passionate ride with the ability to haul your life with you. The lower front grille is out of proportion and some lines are unrefined.
Now the good parts:
That is a very nice design overall. The front headlights are great and shading has improved drastically. Your overall perspective is great and those wheel archs are mighty fine. That is all.

Aidan's entry better be last because I'm sweating while waiting for the Voting thread to open. This contest sure has many outstanding entries. Good job everyone and good luck.

i know i may be the only one who wants this, but can we pleeease have one more extension? just until monday, because i won't have any time at all to do my entry before the weekend. if you do i'll really appreciate it, and if you don't (i can see why) then i guess i'll just wait until the next contest. i just really want to enter this one...
