View Full Version : French Car Design Contest

The French have always been known for their passionate and innovative--if sometimes downright od d--car designs. Fabled autos such as the Talbot-Lago T-150 CSS and Citroen DS, along with modern classics like the Citroen C6, Renault Vel Satis, and Peugeot 907 embody the most beautiful and often most controversial elements of archetypal "French" design. Your challenge is to create your individual interpretation of French design: using an existing (or defunct) manufacturer, capture what you feel to be the truest expression of French sensibilities and project them on a practical, forward-thinking, and above all beautiful roadcar that would point the way
to the future of French automobiles. No restrictions for body style.
Citroen DS

Tablot-Lago

Peugeot 907

Renault Vel-Satis

Contest Will end of the 11th of August.

What's the distinctive design feature on French cars? Long overhangs and short butts?

holy smokes, a few really nice entries already. AGNDARNETW, it seems like your car is a bit twisted. The view for the front has a bit of top view in it, while the rear doesn't. The perspective on the rear wheel kind of shows this.
I can't design anything. it's hard coming up with something french!

I'm loving it especially the rear end. I like the way you smoothed the lights and bumper all together. Looks sleek and stylish but I would rethink the name though. C10 doesn't sound good on a supercar.
I don't see much Citroen C4 styling but I do see the Citroen C6 side window and you definitley took my advice of making it smooth and sleek aswell as stylish. i'm voting for the Citroen C10 lol

Like I said, I'm not particularly sure what counts as French car design or whatever so I just designed something that caught my fancy.
The Talbot-Lago has long been regarded as one of the most beautiful cars in the world. Redesigning it for the 21st century, then, is no easy task. This design started life very, very differently, as a sort of radical F1-style exposed-wheel vehicle. As an extreme and sharp vehicle it was meant to be just as radical now as the Talbot-Lago was back then.
However, it could not be forgotten what this car was: a Talbot-Lago. Therefore, cues had to be incorporated into the original radical design. Cues such as the front-end design, with three separate grilles, the chrome detailing, the tear-drop shape, the door shape. These are all elements that have worked their way into my 21st century Talbot-Lago.
Note the radically new yet familiar face, with the three grilles and implanted headlamps (which were optional on some original Talbots). These are flanked by new-age LED headlamps. The side mimics the original's undulating curves; the front fender and engine compartment are here tied together by a flying buttress that covers the chrome engine strakes. There is chrome detailing on the bottom too, and it reminds the viewer of the orignal chrome detailing both in effect and shape. Note the rear-hinged doors, like the original Talbot. These are hinged at the rear-fender line, making entering and exiting the vehicle an event. At rear, a graceful teardrop shape is unmarred by a pop-up spoiler that only comes out when necessary. The classic shape is tied together by two triangular exhaust pipes. A simply gorgeous two-tone paint job makes the car absolutely shine.
Despite several throwbacks to the original, the car as a whole does not come off as retro; instead, it is meant to be frighteningly imposing, futuristically radical and painfully beautiful, like the original Talbot-Lago was in its time.
Sketches:
http://img207.imageshack.us/im...0.jpg
http://img88.imageshack.us/img...5.jpg
Finals:

Any comments please!

thanks, Mr. Fusion, really appreciate it. I wouldn't mind if you voted for the C10. I'm no good with coming up with car names.
wow knihc2008, love the design!! i like your skill with markers too. Whenever I try to colour with markers, it gets really really messy. Good job! Makes me want to fix the rear view of my car so much. All i can manage at the moment is scanning my pictures so they don't look so terrible!! :D
EDIT: Almost forgot! Peugeot_206, that is an incredible design. Nice proportions and perspective are amazing considering you're so young! When I was your age...I'd have to show you how bad I was.

4- PlumCrazy
3-AMV
2-AGNRDARNETW
1-ChineseDesigner
Superfresa-thanks for the vote of confidence. Unfortunately, I can't afford PhotoShop, but, given time, I can get very detailed with Paint. I will, however, experiment with other media.

I was incredibly impressed with these entries... so many people captured the essence of French design, and the resulting entries were very unique.
4 - AGNRDARNETW
2 - chinesedesigner
2 - PlumCrazy
2 - knihc2008
