With petrol prices increasing by the minute, Hybirds have become even more important to car company'. Toyotas Prius has been selling well despite it's ungainly looks.
Your task is to design the new Prius. It must posses a combination of aerodynamics, space, icon-status, and futuristic design.

Contest will close on the 17th of May

Toyota announces the all-new 2008 Prius

The Toyota Prius, the world's first mass-produced hybrid gas/electric car, sparked a revolution when it was launched in the United States in 2000, three years after its debut in Japan. Now, Toyota aims to further its technological flagship with its third generation.
Its futuristic design, inspired by science fiction, borrows styling cues from other Toyota vehicles, including its Estima minivan, as well as the current second-generation Prius. The Prius is styled like a pod car, with the entire upper half of the car darkened. The darkened B- and C-pillars also conceal the Prius' door opening mechanism: a static-sensitive button concealing a hand grasp. Utilizing the standard Smart Entry and Start system, the doors are unlocked when the someone within the remote's range touches the button; pushing the button in will reveal a small hand well hidden behind the car's sheetmetal--pull, and the door opens. Also a part of the darkened upper body is a solar panel integrated into the roof. This helps to provide another energy source for recharging the all-new lithium-ion battery.
Along with a higher-capacity battery, the upgraded Hybrid Synergy Drive recieves a more powerful electric motor mated to either an all-new 3AZ-FXSE 1.8-liter E85-compatible gasoline engine or Toyota's Biodiesel-compatible 1.9-liter D-4D 180 Clean Power Diesel engine, its first appearance in the United States market made possible by the introduction of low-sulfur diesel fuel. Equipped with either engine, the Prius is expected to reviece an AT-PZEV emisisons rating in California-emisisons states. The 3AZ is expected to yield up to a combined 50 MPG under the EPA's new testing methods; the D-4D 180 is estimated to achieve 60 MPG combined under the same new testing methods.
The all-new third-generation Prius will be launched initially with the D-4D 180 Diesel engine in California-emissions states, with a full nationwide launch two months later alongside the avaliabilty of the 3AZ gasoline/E85 engine.

Nice entries everyone! Fortunately I found some time this evening to sketch out a few ideas, this is what I ended up going with:

The new Toyota Prius will continue to serve as the "halo hybrid," the car to which other automakers aspire in their efforts to join Toyota's fuel-saving revolution. The next Prius has been thoroughly redesigned with aerodynamics and weight-saving as chief priorities. Extensive aerodynamic testing--evident in the smooth, swept-back shape of the new Prius, the rear wheel skirts and a host of underbody aero enhancements--helps the car slice through the air with minimal resistance. The liberal use of aluminum, carbon fiber, and other composites contributes to a light curb weight which lessens the load on the Prius' state-of-the-art powertrain. Even the massive alloy wheels, constructed from a magnesium alloy, by design play an integral role in this weight-saving plan. Coupled with the newest generation of Toyota's groundbreaking Hybrid Synergy Drive, these enhancements provide better performance and even greater fuel economy in a car never known to lack either.
