Wow, this could be interesting. I'm definitely in. I'm really torn between a subtle evolution and a total departure from the current model, but I've got some good ideas.
On a semi-separate note, is it okay to post ideas to get feedback before I enter a design?

I gav it a quick bash and did a few sketchs. Sorry its a bit rough but you get the idea.
I used style ques from the early and latest golf models to make it a true representation of the whole golf history. WHEW! This contest really took it out of me. I don't think I've ever spent so much time poring over ideas... first I wanted to go radical and change the VW face completely, but then my conservative side got the better of me and I decided to make a sleeker Golf more in line with the VW identity that's been established with previous concepts, the Eos, etc...
But in the end it turned out pretty good, in my opinion, and I'm proud to enter this--my new Volkswagen Golf MKVI, shown here in GTI form --into the contest. Alright -
Domino - First off, your style, perspective and proportions sense is unbeatable and I love your ideas too. I sit and stare at your drawings for a long time to try to improve my own, but I really cant get as good as you are. Congrats on that and I love your design, especially the front end. You unquestionably will beat us all again and you deserve it
AXIS - I see you're improving your style, but take more time on getting proportions right and observe more and then you wont need to even render your sketch (though you can if you want). So generally, spend more time on the basics, so you dont have to spend much time in dressing it up to look cool.
Arctic Ice - Great design but I feel you would've benefited greatly from looking at a VW Golf whilst developing your ideas, as you have ended up with more of a sportswagon than a hatch, and with none of VWs typical design cues. Still top effort.
Mazda5driver - Top effort too, but as I said before, work on observation. Look at apic of a Golf and notice things like where the front windscreen is in relation to the front wheel. Notice how, for example, front doors never curve arround the front wheelarch, whilst rear doors tend to do so a lot more. Nice free lines there, and generally good perspective, just work on observing a photograph heaps and trying to translate a basic outline to your own words (in this case, to your own design).
Good work all.

I cant find a scanner :( I may have to recur to the oh so crappy photographs. hmm...

Wow, guys, I appreciate your comments! It's shaping up to be a great contest, and there's still plenty of time left (I know some of you have some great ideas you've yet to enter). So far all of the entries are looking terrific and I'm impressed by the variety of approaches.
smoothstyle - very cool idea, almost retrofuturistic in many respects. The stub-nosed front with the dual round headlamps harks back to the MKI, which is cool, and the grille treatment (in line with VW's current range) works well with it. Without any window or door lines it's tough for me to get a real sense of the greenhouse layout but the roof must be all glass, which is a neat touch. The vents on either side of the grille are boxy and out of place. Overall great work.
Arctic Ice - I like your idea, especially in its second iteration. Other than a sweet sketch (great job with the shading, in particular), there's a lot of neat features in the design itself. The face is particularly attractive, and the shape of the headlights and mirrors interesting. The overall proportions of the car are nice, too, and I can see this design translating well into a 3-door variant, among others. My only criticism would be the car's....heft. The wheel size looks appropriate for a production car yet at the same time they seem woefully inadequate to support this car's visual "weight"... it's just a little bloated, if you ask me, and with the downward-curving DLO the rear smacks of Mercedes R-Class. Still, a great design and an awesome drawing.
AXLE - beautiful render, and I love that you drew inspiration from the GX3. Yours is a sleek, sexy design without sacrificing the Golf's practicality and basic dimensions; the long windshield is dynamic, the rear haunches dramatic, and the face sinister. I love it.

Mazda5_Driver - Awesome headlights and great overall proportions. I love the rims, too, nice detail. The positioning of the VW logo at the bottom (as opposed to the middle or top) of the grille is something I played with too, and works very well here. other than that the grille is a little plain, though, and the fact that it stretches uninterrupted from one lamp to the other makes it seem very, very wide. Everything up front is very nicely integrated, though, so it seems to work. Other than that the only thing that bugs me is the drooping DLO, it's just not flattering. If you'd made the bottom of the window straight and added a parallel character line below, it would have ended up much sportier. Still, a terrific work, one of your best.

DaDesign - I like the sporty, wedge profile of your design, and the face looks tough and well-integrated, minus the confusing intakes below each headlamp. The side profile is low and sleek and I like the shape of the window glass, but the very sharp body crease leading from the tail-lamps is very un-VW. As a sketch there are some easy-to-fix problems, but as a design it's very solid.

Well I finished upon time,so here is the new MK6, it has two single headlights as a throw back to the MK1. Has a modified company grill to make it more imposing as well as many new safety and tech features such as LED lights all around. one of your best; i like the styling. the perspective is still off though: mainly, it still looks too swept back, and the windshield should be parallel with be bottom of the front of the car. just try looking at real pictures of cars to get a better idea of perspective. still, looks good
i realllllyyyy need to start on my entry...i really want to enter, and i've been tooling around with some ideas (just evolutionary at the moment), but i'm running short on time...it would be really convenient if the deadline could just be moved to monday (4/3), so i could get it done over the weekend (hint, hint )

I had very limited time to produce an entry and banged out a couple of sketches in my free period, but yeah, on reflection i would make the front detailing more curvacious to suit the design. The roof was designed with a newly developed type of perspex in mind (see the new rinspeed concept) to continue with that germanic, solid yet airy feel.
one point i would pick out from your design is the length of the door in comparison to the wheelbase, it looks like an incredibly viable option for a succesor to the lupo gti. More entries! Looking good, guys!
yourlilbro - love the aggressiveness of your design. The fascia is especially sporty and the staggered wheels look great. However, the proportions are off, as this car seems to have a very long hood; pushing the cab forward a bit would make it look more like a Golf, and would simultaneously eliminate the pudgy rear overhang. There are also some confusing surfaces, but it's an attractive and very viable GTI replacement. Nice job.
krypton - You're improving, as far as perspective and technique. The design is futuristic, but a tad blocky, and aside from a vague resemblance in the grille I see no discernible features to indicate that this is a Volkswagen. For all I know, this could have veen your intention, in which case that would make no difference, but I would have preferred a few more ties to the brand identity. Still, cool car. I especially like the detail around the lower intakes.
hakkinen - I really like the front end. Your sketch is simple but in this case sufficient, because your design is so dynamic that it really needs no further embellishment. The integration of the grille and headlights is superb. The overall profile is a bit simple, and the greenhouse looks kind of chopped (making the car look stretched out), but the concept is fantastic, IMO.
Innotech - beautiful sketch with fantastic detail, and I love how you brought in elements from VW's concepts in the headlights and grille surround. Nicely balanced and totally feasible... it looks production ready.
graffititech - I'll echo what others have said; the car's too swept back, and the proportions are off. But technique aside, the design is solid. I like the profile, but it seems a little wagon-like, even SUV, with those roof rails and the squared-off rear pillar. I like the grille and the cute round headlamps but the treatment on the rear fender (I guess it's the golf ball inspiration you talked about?) is a little odd. But really nice job, you worked hard and the result looks great.

Alright, this finishes tomorrow and I see no way I'm completing my appropriate design on time, so I'll just have to anter my initial sketch (which I managed to scan a couple of weeks back). I'm not happy with this one, but eh...

Rear - Volkswagen Golf MK VI Standard:

Front: - Volkswagen Golf MK VI Standard with optionall grill mounted driving lamps:

Oh well. I Hope I improve my lines really quickly, they look like trash. and I know it looks so un-proportionate. I wish I could enter the evolution of this initial sketch but its all good, at least I entered.
Some very VERY nice entries lads, and I can't go past Dominos. I'm amazed at both the design and the clarity of the drawing. Super, I'm diggin the design and all, but I don't think it suits gold - perhaps Bedouin.
Well, here is mine - hopefully the first of many. Perspective is abit dodgy but I'm just glad to enter...

Wow Plumcrazy, another mind blowing sketch from you! It's a bit nose thin, but hey!
Car-fan, nice entry, nice style, just watch your proportions mate - they're generally alright, but on small details they are a little overdone. Still great job.
Geary - First off, nice to have you here mate, don't know what you meant with the Gold or bedouin (?). Moving on to your design, Its nice overall mate, but you got some work ahead of you proportion wise. The general design looks wicked, but for example I really dont see an engine fitting in there mate, and I'm not quite sure if you are going to be able to have any suspension movement in there - LOL. Hey overall looking good, but you will benefit greatly from correct proportions.
Your sense of perspective is improving, your side is nearly right, you are just messing up in third point perspective (If you remember your Q5 had the exact same problem). Also, congrats on your linework mate, It's the most difficult part to achieve IMO and you've got that. Cant wait to see a few more from you

All - Finally, yeah, my design is too squashed and ugly, but as I said, I had to submit my first quick drawing (which I always do to gather ideas) - you can even see other sketches at the other side of the page :P

ok, here's my entry...not my best IMHO, but then i kinda rushed it (about 2 1/2 hours for this one)...i was going for the nice contrast of colors that domino's renders always seem to have and which i always fail at trying to emulate. still, it came out alright (although the grille is more audi-like than i intended), though i don't have high hopes for winning or anything. if i have time after school tomorrow, i'll try and tweak it a bit (not design wise, just darkening some of the fuzzy lines and that kinda thing, they're bugging me)

also, i know perspective gets a little odd around the front; the far left wheel and the base of the windshield drove me crazy. i mean, really, that stupid wheel makes the whole car look off.
