Yeah, cool! Hey lets all give a little info on our "needs and habitat" when we post our cars since we have a multicultural contest here and knowing why a car turned out the way it did would be interesting...

i'm not sure how you'll judge this type of contest...

DoMiNo
02-16-2006, 02:29 PM
I'm with knihc... this is way too subjective. There needs to be some measure by which we can judge whose car more effectively meets their "needs." How on earth are we supposed to do that?

Superfresa
02-16-2006, 03:08 PM
I find this is certyainly a problem but the intention of this contest was to give for once, a lot of freedom to all contestants. I dont know I dont like the topic all that much but I'll try to be in anyway...

I will let Aidan know about your worries and let him decide.

AXIS
02-16-2006, 11:10 PM
Another way to solve the problem with this contest is to give the design an objective (example: the perfect midsize or the perfect sports car) also there should be some sort of detailed artist statement to go along with the design explaining why it is "the perfect car" anyone can design something and label it perfect but the selling point for this contest is going to be the reasoning behind the concept, how you sell your idea and whether or not the specific objective was met. Thats just my 2cents.

they could be judged against real cars in their class, or against its predecessor (if its a real brand).

We really need aidan...
I think the best thing would be to limit the contest to one category (ie hatchbacks or Supercars or something).

Avalible initially as a versatile 5-door hatchback and later as a sedan, the ION Green Line joins GM's two-mode hybrid system with a 2.2L Ecotec engine. When mated to an efficient CVT, the Green Line's powertrain produces 160 horsepower and 165 lb/ft of torque. Yet despite the increase in power, the Green Line is expected to achieve a combined 40 MPG, even with the EPA's new testing methods. Furthermore, the Green Line's Ecotec is compatible with E85 ethanol and is expected to yield an AT-PZEV rating on regular gasoline.
Standard features on the Green Line, which is expected to start at under $19,000, include a 6-CD, MP3 compatible sound system with 7 speakers (including subwoofer) and an auxilary jack for MP3 devices, automatic climate control, premium cloth seating, an array of 6 airbags, cruise control, and keyless entry, and remote engine start.

The New Pontiac G4 MultiCoupe
Faced with a strong global small car market and renewed demand in North America for small, fast, fun, and economical alternatives to gas-guzzling SUVs, Pontiac has decided to expand its lineup, catering to premium compact buyers. Drawing inspiration from its smash-hit Solstice roadster, Pontiac has used GMs global Kappa platform as the basis for its stylish and fun hatchback, the new G4.
The exterior of the new G4 combines the seductive styling of the Solstice with the functionality of a small hatchback. The MultiCoupe door system incorporates a set of rear-hinged clamshell doors behind the front doors (think Mazda RX-8) and allows greater flexibility, as well as easier ingress/egress for rear-seat passengers. The car's bold character belies its small size, and premium features such as a standard full-glass roof (with two panel sliding sunroof), alloy wheels, and optional xenon headlamps set new standards in the segment.
Inside, Pontiac's innovative approach proves that small cars don't have to skimp on space. Front and rear passengers enjoy plentiful leg and headroom, and in the event more cargo space is needed, the rear seats and front passenger seat fold down completely to form a true flat loading floor. A choice of premium audio systems (all MP3-player compatible), leather upholstery, and other premium conveniences make the G4 a truly pleasant place to spend time.
But the G4 is not without a wild side; a choice of two powerful motors ensures a sporty driving experience that doesn't sacrifice economy. The Solstice's 2.4L, 170hp four-cylinder motor acts as the G4's base powertrain; a five-speed manual is standard with a five-speed automatic (and manual shift feature) optional. A more extreme option comes in the form of the Solstice GXP's 260hp turbocharged 2.0L Ecotec engine, mated to a close ratio 6-speed manual transmission, which together make the G4 GXP model capable of a sub-6 second 0-60 time.
With the G4--available soon in GT and GXP trims--Pontiac extends its "Driving Excitement" mantra to an innovative, sporty, and utterly capable compact to go head-to-head with competitors like the VW Golf GTI, Dodge Caliber and Caliber SRT-4, Honda Civic Si, Acura RSX, Audi A3, and Volvo C30, among others.
(GXP Model Shown)

I'm not sure if this falls under a C-segment size car, but I think it does. It is an X3/RDX competitor, except slightly smaller and more compact, like how the FX is compared to the X5/MDX etc. Smaller makes it much more sporting and tighter to handle, with a light curb weight and compact, structurally sound platform. Based on a shortened FM platform, it is powered by a Hybrid engine, incorporating a 2.5L VQ V6 engine and an additional electric engine to put out 320 horsepower, equal to that of Infiniti's all new FZ engine, but with incredibly high fuel economy. To be unveiled at the New York Auto show, alongside the new G sedan, as yet another collaboration between a car company and the JC Design studio.

It will be the least expensive, and therefore most accessible, Shannon yet.
Trim, compact body
The Series 2 is one of the smallest cars in the Shannon range, with a length, width and height of 4301mm, 1760mm and 1440mm respectively. This diminutive size gives the Two superb maneuverability, and hints at its great dynamic capabilities. The Series 2's sheetmetal is very aggressive, with a progressive take on the Shannon face. The air dam design featured on all Series 2 models suggests a sports model, but is in fact standard fit.
Vast powertrain choice
The Two offers a vast number - eight, to be exact - of powertrain options. The eight Series 2 models are:
-216: Equipped with a 1.6-litre, 115bhp inline four, the 216 is the lowest model in the Two range.
-218: With a 1.8-litre, 158bhp inline four.
-220: With a 2.0-litre, 175bhp inline four.
-225: Featuring a new 2.5-litre, 225bhp inline 6.
-235: Top-of-the-range model featuring the frighteningly quick 3.5-litre, 283bhp inline 6 first seen on the Series 3 and 7 and soon to be introduced across the Shannon range.
-218Td: With a 1.8-litre, 145bhp turbodiesel four.
-220Td: With a 2.0-litre, 173bhp turbodiesel four.
-230Td: Striking a balance between fun and economy with a 3.0-litre, 220bhp inline six turbodiesel.
All engine options are available with either six-speed manual or six-speed GearSelect transmissions.
Superb to drive, yet still luxurious
Based on the hit Series 4, the Two features a McPherson strut front suspension and a multilink rear. The steering rack has been tuned for optimum feedback and feel, while the suspension, despite delivering extremely impressive handling, does not punish the car's occupants.
The Series 2 is an absolute joy to drive. Thanks to a rear-wheel-drive chassis, rare in its sector, and a superbly balanced drivetrain in any model, the Two offers brilliantly agile cornering coupled with superb feedback from its steering, which is essentially a modified version of steering racks seen in other Shannons - all of which have been widely praised for steering feel. Cornering becomes even more impressive when the Series 2 is equipped with optional Ride Control anti-roll bars, which almost completely eliminate body roll in turns with little effect on ride quality.
Inside, the Two is a luxurious place to be. Materials used are of the highest quality, and the seats have been extensively tested to ensure comfort for a wide range of occupants.
Practicality is still present
Although compared to front-drive cars of a similar size the Two has less overall room inside because of its rear-drive configuration, it can still seat four adults comfortably. All seats except for the driver's are capable of being folded forward, a useful feature for particularly large or elongated cargo.
Good value ensured
The Series 2 will start well below the already well-priced Series 4, ensuring maximum value. The Two will be available to a worldwide audience a few months after its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

I apologize in advance for any perspective mistakes and shading irregularities that undoubtedly exist, since I was extremely pressed for time on this one. Actually, given the time I spent on these debut drawings, they came out very well - I think I'm still gonna redo, or at least improve, some of them later though...comment away, and hopefully I'll get a few votes!

So for now, its the Honda Di-R (i know it says Si R on the sketch. i changed it.)
powered by a 2.0 liter turbodeisel, it has a very aerodynamic design for superb fuel economy. And although it costs more than the civic Si, honda says it will end up being less expensive in the long run because of great reliability and fuel economy.

OK Guys I'm done - dont need the extension after all...

This started off as a "Perfect car" so it had to be something really really special - and what can be more special to me than this car...

My Parents cannot remember wether it was in the Land Rover or in The Renault 4 that I nearly was born but either way both cars played an important role.
It was in a Renault 4 that my Parents travveled trhough Colombia - through tracks never travelled by 2WD cars. The Renault 4 is part of the Culture in Colombia, it helped build the country. It can be seen in the most remote areas.
Never had I seen a car so robust and well built - and that still stands true.

So, in my return to the design contests and for this very special ocassion, may I introduce the 2007 Renault 4 Master Mk2:

Direct link:
http://img120.imageshack.us/my...d.jpg
Enjoy, and sorry I had to really rush it. i really like it superfresa, the photoshop job in particular is well-done. i don't really like the ford 3-bar grille up font, maybe you could have tried a cross with renault's current split-grille design and the original 4's grille...still, a great entry nonetheless

u could change your member name without creating a whole new account. Just click My Profile, Edit Profile, and there would be a space where you could type your new ID and click save at the bottom. But really changing your ID often aint a good idea. Stick with one name. I remember the days when I was GRANTURISMO,GRANTURISMO1234,willsmithrulez,Eleanor GT and EleanorRT. Haha lol~!
