Objective
As part of the design team at Land Rover., you have been chosen to come up with a new design for the upcoming Range Rover. The overall look should be clearly recognizable as a Land Rover. No interior view is needed, only exterior. Three rows of seating will be required to combat the new Audi Q7 and new Mercedes G class. Management has asked for 2 different approaches to the design, evolutionary and revolutionary (small changes to the design or a radical design change). You many enter 2 different designs, the evolutionary and revolutionary.
Other Specifications and Details: Firm: Land Rover; Model: Range Rover Redesign, 2 different styles, radical and subtle.
You have 2 weeks from today. Good luck.

Well, sorry I couldn't spend more time on it... but I decided I liked the shape. I'll call this the subtler, "evolutionary" design just in case I want to throw a wild one in here too.
I call it the Mall Stormer
In addition to three rows of seating, it's equipped with a refined version of the LR3's Terrain Response¬Ě system which optimizes traction in even the most extreme conditions. Settings now include "supermarket parking lot," "soccer field," "cobblestone driveway," "South Central Los Angeles," and for the adventurous, "golf course fairway."

Note the exaggeration of the characteristic Land Rover face... I think it's quite intimidating.

I'm about halfway done, mine is more of a sloping and slightly more curvy than the current. I hope to spend a lot of time on this though. By the way, great job Domino!

Domino, yours is awesome. I love how you took the good elements of the original truck and exxagerated them. It should be a hit if it was a real vehicle. I love your front end.
Whipster. I like yours cause it's colored. I like it alot, but to me it looks like redesigned Ford Escape or maybe even a new look Rav 4. Nevertheless, nice work. I really like the grille and the chrome bars in the air vents and the chrome under the license plate. Rugged yet classy. I approve.

I gave it some overdone proportions to make it look cooler
Also played a bit with colors trying something new..

Whipster- gorgeous drawing, shading and coloring I could only dream of doing. That said, I think the design is kind of tame, and a little much of a departure from the established RR design language. A great design nonetheless!!
HusseinDesign- yet another beautiful job; very reminiscent of the RR Sport IMO... and the rear lights are an especially cool touch.
After seeing you guys' drawings, I wish I could color!!

All the drawings are great but i think that husseins are the one that are pure landrover designs without being conservative or uninspired. Lovely head and rear lights. Bravo!!!!

All three entries are great - I particlarly like Domino's.
Ascariss, do we submit both a radical and minor change design, or just one?

The Water Is Poison
02-18-2005, 03:38 AM
i think were supposed to do a 3/4 front and a 3/4 rear or a front, side, and rear.

Ascariss

Well you can enter both, or just one.

knihc2008
02-19-2005, 05:54 PM
well, all i can say is that redesigning a classic shape is a bi*ch.
Design Proposal (evolutionary): Land Rover Range Rover
Sporting a design which is both at once familiar and cutting edge, this RR is new without betraying its roots. With the RR Sport taking the sporty road, the original Range Rover can co back to its hardcore off roading roots, with a look to match. Its front is a throwback to the original RR, with simple one-piece round headlamps and grille bars across. A bit of new school can be found in the pronounced fender flares, the front one incorporating the new Land Rover vent, and an overlapping clamshell hood design motif. Thick, hanging vertical door handles give an impression of sturdiness. The rear is an evolution of the current RR, incorporating a two-piece tailgate, an asymmetrical rear window cut (with integrated windshield wiper) and two center-high-mount exhaust pipes with a sharp bottom cut to maximize departure angles.
Enjoy!

Hey, does the Range Rover have to have 4 doors? I'd rather do a 2 door concept, if that's alright.
Well, looks like I have an hour filled up with drawing cars. (It only takes me about 30 minutes to do a decent drawing, so I can enter this one and the other.)

Guy: Interesting mix of styles... the drawing is terrific, one of your best, but I'm not sure about the car's overall look. As noted above, the 300C influences run a little heavy here, and the side mirrors look a bit out of place.
