Sorry if this is a little preemptive, but acccording to Nissan Sport Magazine, both the 2008 Infiniti G35 Coupe and Infiniti's X3 fighter will debut at the show.

Quote »

Nissan Sport will get the first official look at the all new 2008 Infiniti G35 Coupe on January 7. But Nissan won't let us breathe a word of what our eyes take in until the car is officially unveiled this April at the New York Auto Show. Don't worry, we'll have every detail in our Spring 2007 issue, releasing the same day the car is unveiled. We'll also get a look at an all-new Infiniti crossover that is slated to be a step down in both price and size from the popular Infiniti FX. It too will make its debut in New York.

http://www.nissansportmag.com/home.html

This show I'm especially looking forward to, being it's the only show I get to attend in person; far beyond any internet and publication coverage of the other significant expos.
It looks like Infiniti will have a couple of important debuts here, but, as a mentioned in another thread some time ago, what about a next generation Infiniti Q45 (Q-ship); the last generation debuted in NY and Lexus is out with the amazing LS series.

The current FX competes with the RX and ML more so than the X5 (since the all-new X5 is much biegger). I wonder how small they will have to make this new X3-competitor.
The same goes for Lexus' RX and their planned sub-RX SUV. Right now the RX is between markets of competing with the likes of smaller SUVs like the RDX and X3 and bigger SUVS like the MDX, X5, the Lexus GX, and Volvo XC90. So I guess the coming sub-RX as well as the sub-FX will need to be pretty small not to overlap too much with their larger brethren.
But then they might add 3-rd row seat options to RX or FX or the ML and be all good?

If anything, the smaller SUV will be just slightly smaller than the FX, such as the X3 was to the first X5, and that will allow the next gen FX to be a larger truck and better fill the gap between the FX and QX...or just replace the QX becuase it doesn't really fit in anyway.

Just read the Buick LaCrosse Super is debuting in NY. Also, the Subaru WRX and a new ultra luxury car from Hyundai

I'm pretty sure he's talking of the Hyundai BH. I have read many news articles stating that the BH will debut in NY which would be fantastic since we've been waiting for more than a year for this.
Hyundai also debuts major vehicles at NY like how the Azera had in 2005 with the Accent and the Elantra in 2006.

Yes, I would hope so as well; the Lexus LX570, Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia would be well anticipated, considering the outstanding debuts of late!
Some time ago, a colleague referred to the Land Cruiser as the "Land Crusher", now that looks to have some meaning with the upcoming generation and it's powerplant

Here are the givens: The two Buick Super editions and the soon to be released secret concept. The rest is pure speculation.
The next-generation/upgraded Vibe is a good possibility along with the updated, 2008 STS. The DTS was recently updated so that doesn't seem possible. The Impala I believe is to be revealed at Detroit NAIAS in 2008.
The first week in April will indeed be an interesting one!

Hi, has anyone info what shows Lincoln ??? MKS ????

63Bonneville
04-04-2007, 09:18 PM
I keep asking about the upcoming Lincoln MKS (being a production-close concept was in the New York show in 2006) and I've gotten no answers yet so far.
Funny, it's D3 based relatives, both new and updated, are appearing; the new Flex, along with the Taurus, Taurus X and Sable (nee 500, Freestyle and Montego), and a Lincoln sibling (name could begin with initials MK-fill in the blank) to the Flex had been mentioned, but is not to appear in New York. Something has to come up with the MKS sooner or later; there's now a big gap in the car end of the Lincoln line-up between the MKZ (nee Zephyr) and the Towncar (sold mostly to limo and livery fleets), the LS, I believe, is gone, the Continental is long gone, but the Towncar saw a stay of execution.
I suppose it's another waiting game.

I just attended the NY auto show Saturday, 4/7 and I'll be there again Wednesday.
It's amazing; after viewing all the new models, models on deck and the concepts up close and personal, I was somewhat amazed with a couple of offerings I saw in the lower-tier area... the Mazda B-2000 pick-up and the Ford Ranger! These are still being built and are ancient models as far as today, 2007; it is still amazing these still exist, and it was like going back in time! They surely showed their age, especially surrounded by all the latest hardware, but, by the same token, they seemed somewhat innocent being surrounded in the venue by more sophisticated and imposing models of all makes, in and out of Ford.
I suppose I can classify the Mercury Grand Marquis, which was on display in this category; it's basic bodyshell, though cosmetically updated, is from 1992 while is original chassis dates back to 1979, yet had been re-engineered since then. It still is a cash cow for the Mercury division and I understand it's the number one selling car in Florida; the seniors/older demographic love this model. At least it's Lincoln Towncar sibling has been re-bodied a couple of times.
It's all just something I wanted to mention as part of my experience while attending NYIAS.

While the Mercedes display had plenty going on, what I noticed was the brand new (and previously not discussed - as far as I can tell) GL550. It has a different grill, wheels and wood trim along with the 5.5 liter engine. I talked to one of the reps who said it was a last minute surprise and that Alabama wasn't even going to send it until they agreed two days before the show. As a new owner of an '07 GL450, I wasn't totally thrilled that there was a new option that I didn't even know about but I guess that's just the car industry...always something better 6 months away (unless you're talking about Mercury).

It was just a feeling of going back in time, also, a bit of a tangent to the rest of the exhibit.
In the way they (Ranger & B-2000) stood out, it was like Charlie Brown finding that plain, humble little tree in lot at Christmas-time amid all the other, more bold and showy trees, that was the feeling.
I mention the Grand Marquis because it seemed to stand the test of time, it still communicates the early 90s. Another, albeit much more upmarket, is the boxy Mercedes Benz G-wagen SUV which started life as a military vehicle; this was supposed to be replaced by the larger, more contempory GL-class, but, it seemed to also hold on.

04-11-2007, 11:56 AM
yeah acura pulled the concepts because they are rethinking their designs for them. in other words they agreed that they looked terrible (especially the sedan).

63Bonneville
04-12-2007, 06:33 PM
Yes, Acura is re-thinking it's two major concepts for the final design. I understand for the NSX successor, all the hard points are in place and it will still be V10 front-engined rear drive (possibly AWD?) offering, but it's being fine-tuned to be even more outrageous and to confidently par against that upcoming Lexus, which appeared in NY. Acura does need a V8 or V10 powered sedan flagship with RWD, or RWD-biased AWD, to be taken more seriously in that end of the market, where the worthy RL doesn't cut it. Of course that sedan concept is an early study, but I'm sure something nice will end up.
Speaking of the RL; I like and respect the RL very much, but, to me it's only shortcoming is that the wheels are too small (or at least look it), especially for it's performance and class. I would like to see 18" or a 19" upgrade on the RL; perhaps 17's would be fine in a lower-end edition. When the production RL premiered, it was shown with 20" wheels, which made the showroom model's 17-inchers look really pale by comparison.

show was actually pretty good. extremely crowded. couldnt get any really good pictures of anything. i watched 2 murcielagos have an engine rev-off in some contest thing. it was pretty cool. oh and i touched the murci! still havent washed my hand heh. the layout of the show wasnt even good for crowds. like most of the areas had really narrow passageways and were near poles so you had to wait for like 50 people to walk past you before you were able to walk in the direction they were coming from. good example of this was the lambo exhibit.
a lot of new cars went kind of unnoticed. like the flex didnt have a crowd around it or anything. probably because everyone was drooling over the gt500kr about 30 feet away. everyone was at the airstream too. all of the gm unveilings went unnoticed. like i dont think anyone noticed the new SE hummers, the supers, the STS, or even the beat/trax/groove. my dad fell in love with the beat, i still love the groove. subaru was a ghost town, except for the virtual racing thing and the OLD wrx. the bmw 335i cc was really cool and everyone was in love with that. audi was very crowded so i just sat in front of the R8 for like 10 minutes or so, and just stared at it.
mitsubishi was a joke. the outlander broke apart in front of us. we were trying to fold the retarded rear seat and asked the lady for help and she just said "ughh this is like the 10th time this week". great way to show off your product *rolls eyes*. I sat in an F450 king ranch which i have been dying to do for some time now. the leather was awesome and the center console in the rear was bigger than the front one. legroom was really tiny for the big truck. and that tailgate assist thing was extremely handy. its kinda surprising how no one though of it sooner. i couldnt get a good look at the G37 because too many people were standing around it. like the crowd was 6 people deep all around. sat in the gargantuan tundra crewmax. i couldnt figure out how to make the rear seat recline how it does in the commercial so i gave up. dash sucks with the two-tone nastiness. i couldnt find the CTS because it was all the way in the corner away from everything so i didnt bother. the Lexus IS-F is so much better looking in person than pics. all the boy-racerness of it doesnt show in person. like the side vent that bothers everyone barely catches your eye making you think bad about it. its just...there. color is so hard to photograph because every pic gets a big glare.
there were no Smarts there, which bugged me because i was dying to see them and New York is the major market for them so it would make sense theyd be there, right? nope, not a smart to be seen. oh and vw. the r32 is so awesome that i would pick one up in a heartbeat. shame theres only gonna be 5000. there was a polo bluemotion on display too for some reason. by the way the flex isnt nearly as big in person as it is in pictures. looks freestyle size, which it is. there were like 12 avengers there, it was ridiculous. oh and the mygig entertainment thing didnt work. it couldnt tell me how to get the MSG from the javits center (simplest directions ever: walk up from javits center like 6 blocks). it was like "your destination is invalid please try something else". and it froze too. and thats basically it, if i remember anything else ill edit.

No news from Land Rover. Pretty poor...
Hey against the wall, did you get to sit in the Flex? Is it half as awesome as it looks?

land rover had 3 lr2's on the floor. i sat in one and it weas pretty nice. a bit dirty, but you cant blame them because its been a week of people sitting in it and leaving their trash. i couldnt sit in a range rover because there was actually a line to sit in it, so i didnt bother. the flex actually looked pretty good. not as mega-mini looking in person and the interior looked awesome. it was on a stand so i couldnt sit in it. maybe next year though.

The Flex did impress pretty well. It's only a couple of inches longer than the Taurus-X (nee Freestyle) but doesn't seem as tall, allowing for longer proportions. It's pretty wide like a full-sized SUV or car, I read 79" if that's correct and not a typo. The interior is very well appointed from my vantage point. The Flex can be safely said to be a modern take in the traditional American station wagon icon, or even in some ways, today's Oldsmobile Vista-Cruiser wagon. At least they're all getting the larger, more decent engine!
I'm looking forward to the Lincoln version of the Flex, which I understand will go way beyond badging and content, more so than the Edge and MKX, and the Lincoln MKS, the sedan platform-mate. I spoke with a Lincoln rep at the NY show, he stated that the MKS will be released in 11 months from now (stated on 4/7/07) will have a larger 3.7L V6 and didn't indicate the output, and have a front, especially grille resembling the MKR concept, which was on display there. The Lincoln version of the Flex will supposedly get that front-end theme, also, I understand it to be Lincoln's new face.
Funny thing: an individual in one of my car-club organizations was at one of the NY press-preview days; he enjoyed the show highly but claimed that all the cars and vehicles look the same. In ways, they do, all more sophisticated and techy, different categories, classes, and sizes, but they follow a similar theme. I think about a quote from the movie, Sin-City, "modern cars, they all look like electric shavers", it has some merit.

yeah i think i actually might go to press preview next year because my neighbor is part of the AMG club and gets press preview priveleges and i might go with him and my dad next year if he can get 3 passes. it would be nice to get to see all the cars without hordes of people in my way.

That's why I go twice; once on the first Saturday, and again during mid-week, to try to see what I couldn't get up close and personal to the first time around., and with lesser amounts of people. It still had a bigger crowd on Wednesday then I had anticipated.
