Off to a good start! Looks like a fine season to anticipate. LA is going in full swing and is no longer in the shadows, or second banana to NAIAS
Anyway, the LA auto show is amazing this year, but NAIAS will still trump it, being one of the most significant, along with Geneva. Once the Holiday Season is past, I'll feel like a kid on Christmas morning in January, especially during press week when all the debuts are confirmed and all the press pics and the news is all over these sites!
Impressive list to start, but wouldn't there be something pertaining to the new, next generation RWD Impala, and a RWD Pontiac (G8) sedan?

against the wall
11-29-2006, 08:11 PM
lutzy has said the g8 would debut in chicago. not sure about the new rwd impala yet. it may be too soon.

I don't want to wish this season's Holidays away, but we just have to be patient and all the debut news will be trickling in. I am hoping to see a RWD Impala concept which should be close to production. Lot's of news is more last minute or hidden until close to showtime. Pleasant surprises do spring up during press days.

63Bonneville
12-13-2006, 06:28 PM
I want to comment, being a revised Ford 500, Freestyle and Mercury Montego are expected to debut at NAIAS: This may be a bit nit-picky, but I hope the revised 500/Freestyle/Montego, which will have more character in the revisions, plus the badly needed engine (3.5L) upgrades, lose that right fender-mounted aerial/radio antenna. It's trivial, I know, but that is one detail that can really crap up a decent, flowing design, and I feel that they're backward for this day and age. Many products now either have the antenna hidden in the glass somewhere, or have a small, dark angled antenna either on the roof, the trunk lid or the rear-fender: those flow better with the designs, are more contemporary and do no appear as cheap. Of course, things like satellite radio antennas and short stubs that appear more techy and less obvious, and do not cheapen a design.
The Fusion/Milan/MKZ don't even have that right fender antenna, but the more contemporary type. The Mustang, even the Shelby Cobra, has that right fender antenna, which I feel is the only detail that falls short of the rest. Even some Toyota trucks have that right-fender antenna, which surprises me.

i dont think ford wanting to ditch them means a no-go for the rapide. it was confirmed, and they didnt build the concept for no reason. plus, didnt it get a good reception at the show?

the1
12-17-2006, 03:59 PM
It did, how can it not get a good reception when it's so perfect. :) It's just that I'm not sure if Ford is going to pump anymore money in Aston Martin if they want to sell it. Maybe they changed their minds.

These are the vechiles, that are the Best in Show. Please feel free to discuss, and disagree. Remember this is just my Opionons.
BEST CONCEPT-Ford Interceptor- This one Ford Should Bulid. It is all american, in its boldness. It Gives you all the Performance Of a Mustang, with The Roominess Of A sedan.
Most Imporant- 2007 Toyota Tundra. This is the First Real full-size Truck From Toyota. Given The fact that they Have The powerful 5.7, this is a real Threat to the big three. Say what you want about Truck loyality, but 15 years ago people said the same about Amercian cars.
Most Fun- Viper.
Best Idea- the plug-in Hybrid. THe chevy Volt Is great idea, I just wish It could be built today. I would love to be able to commute all week to work, without having to fill up.

Best Concept- Kia Kue Concept: Kia's concepts in the past were nice, but they weren't bold and never raised eyebrows as much as how GM had or Ford. This one stepped over the line and was a fantastic work. Probably the most underestimated concept on the NAIAS floor.
Most Important- Chrysler Town & Country/ Dodge Caravan: The DCX trio always leads the segment, just about everywhere it excels. However, the rage of impressive import minivans such as the Hyundai Entourage and the Honda Odyssey really put the DCX trio far out of the race. The new redesigned version looks the part and certainly does its part. The Swivel n' Go seats might not be a DCX first, but the potential successing type of seats never made it to our shores and now it did with this. Of course, the Stow n'Go plays its part and also its fresh approach into making this more than just your average soccer mom's hauler. It might not appeal to everyone, but it is the most important vehicle for DCX and a feared one to its competitors.
Most Fun- Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept: No explanation needed. This is and will be the most fun vehicle in NAIAS of 2007. If you do not agree, rethink and try using your common sense.
Best Idea- Chevrolet Volt Concept's Innovative Technology: GM lost alot of its popularity, especially to environment-concerned consumers when they offcially killed the EV-1, a plug-in electric car. They also scrapped their intentions in further advancing until now. It seems GM still had the formula in one of the memo notes and reinvented the plug-in electric car, without sacrificing styling. I think I did enough explanation.
I'd place a bet that this thread will be either locked or transfered to the General Vehicles, Opinions, Questions, and Discussions section.
I'd say it's more likely to turn up in the Top Gear studio well before then. And on film set for more of the C-XF microsite chapters.

thats stupid. isnt the whole point of a preview concept to test customer reaction to make necessary changes based on those reactions? if there is no car, no customer reaction.

On the one hand, yes, but if there's only one; better save it for the press days. Don't want any scratches or dents from thousands of adoring fans.

does this mean its not gonna be on display in Ny too, which incidentally is the last major show before the production debut in frankfurt?

I want to state that I was looking at a lot of the live shots of the vehicles, both concept and production debuts, at various sites, and I will say that the live show pics, especially under the light are much more beautiful, dramatic, sexier and more brilliant that the studio shots released by the manufacturers for web and print purposes. The Chrysler Nassau concept is especially more brilliant and elegant in the live shots as well as the it's new generation minivans.
