Any more info on what might debut in Chicago? I can't believe the biggest auto show in North America gets the fewest number of debuts. I wonder if Dodge will unveil the production version of the Nitro. I read that Buick is unveiling their new crossover in Detroit which surprises me because Buick usually debuts new models in Chicago. Any idea when and where the Hyundai Elantra and Entourage will debut?

I was just on the Chicago Auto Show website. The following manufacturers are scheduled to have world debuts: Lexus, GM, Ford, Chrysler Group, Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota, International Truck, BMW, Honda, Kia, Mercedes Benz and Mitsubishi. It says nearly 20 new vehicles will be unveiled at the show.

Chicago is a HUGE show, it's close to Detroit yet only a month apart from the NAIAS, so it makes sense to pack up at the NAIAS and move it all to Chicago.

stinger
01-18-2006, 05:44 PM
According to the Hyundai Exchange, the Hyundai Entourage minivan will debut in Chicago. You can talk about LA, Detroit and New York all you want, but Chicago is the No. 1 show in N.A.

Player4
01-18-2006, 08:30 PM
I agree with stinger here.
Chicago is by far the biggest and it just brings alot of people because just the fact that is kinda in the center of US so people come from all over to the center, it is closer to alot of places where NY, LA, and Detroit is rather far from pretty much anywhere in the US. SO the location just brings alot of people to this show and therefore it is much bigger.

knicks125
01-18-2006, 09:09 PM
Well, here is the thing: Chicago is #1, as far as show space is concerned, among all NA auto shows. However, most of the large auto shows mentioned (chicago, la, detroit, ny) are very much equally important in NA. Please note LA auto show is moving away from NAIAS to have its own spotlight.
As far as which (NA) auto show is the largest and the biggest tough call, and I would say very subjective depending on which angle you look at. From what I saw the past decade or more, Detroit receives the most media coverage (international field especially) and attention/awareness from consumers all over the globe. NY/LA, on the other hand, always find their ways to attract the import and enthusiast crowds, among other groups; while automakers turn out some of the most interesting products. And Chicago, as mentioned in above posts, receives its merits (agreed with other posters) as well in its respective field(s).
It's very much a grey area as to the winner of NA auto shows - there is not a clear cut winner, and that has been the case for a while now.

LEXUS FAN!
01-19-2006, 05:49 PM
Personally, I would rank it
Detroit
NY
Chicago
LA
In that order becasue Detroit receives the most media coverage and probably the most debuts...Chicago does not get as many debuts as NY usually and it doesn't get as much media coverage

63Bonneville

The New York show has a place in my heart because it's the only one I can attend and experience, and I have done so for most of my life. I feel they're all good, but LA gets lost in the shadow of Detroit, but that may change for fall of this year, '06. Detroit is significant for many of the major concepts and prototypes debut there. Geneva is also a significant, high profile expo, many major premieres at that venue. New York in the last few years has had notable premieres, it didn't seem that way years back.
Getting back on topic; I feel Chicago has important production debuts and I always look forward to seeing what appears.

knicks125
01-19-2006, 06:04 PM
Correct. LA will defn. increase its presence as it takes its own spotlight this fall.
Every auto show has brought to the automotive world important debuts so I stand firm as all of the above four auto shows as being equally important to the industry.
I believe we are only discussing auto shows in north america

63Bonneville
01-19-2006, 07:32 PM
I believe the new-generation Avalanche may debut in Chicago, as well. I also believe a production-close Acadia may show and a production Outlook may debut in New York. I could be wrong.
I think a production Aura was already shown, it's in http://thehollywoodextra.blogspot.com where you click in a pic that links to a Quicktime movie: Saturn is really shaping up to be something outstanding, the Sky, Aura & Outlook, and maybe an eventual Zeta RWD offering, perhaps to fill the void left from Oldsmobile.
Many Nissan/Infiniti products seem to debut in New York, but, anything is possible, there may be some pleasant surprises!
I'm sure many of the readers and posters here are just as anxious as I am

Entourage is set unless some crazy act of God stops it. Elantra is a possibilty.

63Bonneville
01-20-2006, 08:08 AM
I believe I heard about the Entourage debuting in Chicago. That model was on, off and on again, and I understand based on the next-generation Kia Sedona. I saw the new Sedona at the New York show in 2005, it was really impressive, nice engine offering and classy appointments, well above it's predecessor. You don't hear one utter, "look at that cool minivan" but I was impressed with what I saw. The Hyundai, I figure, would be slotted above the Kia offering.
Hyundai is really becoming a serious player in the market! Look at the Sonata, Santa Fe and the Azera, and there's a larger, V8 RWD offering coming up, I know mules have been spotted. The beginnings were so humble in NA with the Excel only in the mid 80s. It's just like Saturn, growing and upping offerngs, appointments, and quality.

megadethmartyr

63Bonneville
01-22-2006, 08:09 PM
I agree that the brands are nothing like each-other, but have grown and developed very well from their humble roots. Of course, Hyundai is ahead of Saturn with product intros, now. Hyundai has really gotten phenomenal since it's 1986 intro in the USA!
Mega, Ive learned a lot about the Hyundai product lines and intros via your postings and always looked forward to what you would state next.
Back on topic: I'm still looking for more news on what will also debut in Chicago, maybe they'll be more news during this coming week.

I went to the St. Louis International Auto Show (it sucked) and grabbed a Nissan brochure. The information card in the brochure has three future vehicles coming soon that you can get information on. They are the 2007 Versa, the 2007 Sentra, and the 2007 Altima (available late 2006). This leads me to believe that the Altima will either be shown at Chicago or New York. I dont think Nissan would have put the 2007 Altima on their information card as a choice if it were not going to be shown at one of the remaining major auto shows. Any thoughts?
XXL

knicks125
01-29-2006, 09:16 PM
Altima is almost locked for New York. I think that has been the case since summer last year, believe it or not. In addition to the redesign, look for a possible hybrid model, applications borrowed from Toyota - not sure if this is still the case, fairly old news, although we should receive some updates as we get closer to showtime in April.

Regarding Nissan, I believe the next generation Altima and a significantly updated Maxima will be unveiled in New York.
I'm anxious about the Navigator premiere, but I wonder what will reside under it's hood... The awesome new Escalade now has a 403hp V8, so the Navigator may have to get an upgrade in performance to compete effectively, especially with a larger, extended version to compete with the ESC.
After the Big Game this Sunday I'm sure the news will really be streaming from Chicago!

knicks125
02-03-2006, 12:07 PM
Correct, the revised Quest will be there in Chicago, and as mentioned previously, Altima goes to New York but don't count the Maxima in just yet, after all, the current version only debuted for the 2004 model year.
As for Elantra, likely it won't be there; rather the Entourage will be unveiled from Hyundai. Look for Elantra to debut either at Geneva or New York (with the former being world premiere and the latter being NA debut), my gut feeling.

I just got caught up on this thread. Sorry if this is a little out of order with what you folks have been talking about.
Toyota is planning on unveiling the all new Tundra in Chicago. 1st it was going to be unveiled in Detroit, but they cheezed on everyone, and a lot of companies who needed to get a close look at the vehicle missed out. Toyota PR people should get a slap on the hands for that one. Nonetheless, many websites are reporting the truck will be shown on either the 7th or the 9th. I got tired of guessing which source had their facts striaght and made a call to someone I know within Toyota....
The Tundra will be unveiled on Feb 9th at the Chicago show. If memory serves, it will be sold with a smaller V8 engine for the first year or so. The higher end, tougher V8 will come immediately after that. Finally, the biggest news of all, the massive diesel engine will be available in 09' That truck with the diesel engine is what has got the domestics shaking in their boots, and it should.
This truck is Toyota's answer to Ford's F250. I can't wait to see what the loyal Ford customers are going to say when they learn of an American made diesel that doesn't fall apart or lose 3/4 of its value after 5 years!
Anyway, as for the show...the Tundra will definately be one of the high points of the show. Try to be there on the 9th, the second press day, if you can. The unveiling is sure to be great.

Here's a full size version of Dodge's "invitation" to the press for its Chicago Autoshow conference. It shows three covered cars.
http://www.stratusphere.us/img...3.jpg
The one in back is probably the Dodge Nitro. The one in front is probably is the Caliber STR4. The one in the middle has everyone at the Chrysler boards stumped. It kinda looks like a two-seat convertible but no such beast is known to be in Dodge's product plan. It could be the Avenger sedan from a really weird angle.

I just rembered there is a two-seat roadster in Dodge's product plan... its called the Viper
The third car in the invite could be a variant of the current Viper or a concept for the third-gen.

If you read the January media update on the C.A.S. website, it says Chrysler Group has three world premieres, one production, one concept and one surprise. The production vehicle is the Nitro, the surprise could be the Caliber SRT4.

The Subaru debut is the '07 Tribeca. The VW N.A. intro is the Golf. Don't know about Kia.

You can see live shots of the Chicago Auto Show by going on www. chicagoautoshow.com and clicking on the webcams. They'll be up on the 9th. They provide many different shots of the show floor. It's my way of being there without being there. I'm from Chicago (now live in Las Vegas) and I attended every C.A.S. from 1957-1988. There is a great book about the history of the C.A.S. called "World's Greatest Auto Show" Celebrating a Century in Chicago by James Flammang and Mitch Frumkin.

Build it similar to the Mugen Dominator and give it type-s awd and it would be interesting.

Quote, originally posted by nstreet16 »

Alrighty... u didnt hear this from me... but its boringly cladded with Brembo brakes and a big spoiler. crap, no saturn outlook?

I believe the Saturn Outlook is slated for a NY appearance.
I thought the GMC Acadia was to debut in Chicago, a close to production concept like the Enclave.
That's the only disappointment, the lacking of that GMC crossover, otherwise there's a fine array of debuts.

yea and so much for a new tribeca. theres nothing different except grille trims and more chrome.

The Tribeca is merely an update, which was expected considering it was recently introduced. It now seems to have some more bling to it. I've seen the Tribeca's up close, they're quite nice, well appointed and designed even though the style, especially the nose has some polarity. It doesn't bother me, however.
Who knows now, perhaps both the Outlook and the Acadia will premiere in New York. I wonder when we'll see the full production Aura?

Not that I can afford one but the Bentley Continental GTC was listed as debuting in Chicago but apparently did not. Anyone know for sure? Just curious.
