Based on what hasn't been shown at Frankfurt and what definetly won't be shown at Tokoyo, what will be at NY? It's not that far away... dates have been announced
Public Show Dates: Friday April 14th through Sunday April 23rd
11am - 10:30pm (Sundays: 10am - 7pm)
Special Public Sneak Preview: Friday April 14th 11am - 10:30pm
OFFICIAL OPENING DAY: Saturday April 15th
Festivities begin at 9am
SHOW FLOOR OPENS AT 11am.
Press Preview: media credentials required
Wednesday April 12th & Thursday April 13th
Dealer Preview: (credentials required) Thursday, April 13th from 4-10 pm
(by invitation only)
I will be going on saturday the 15th and posting my pictures soon after.
The 2006 NYIAS will showcase some of the hottest concept and production cars ever seen. Many of the vehicles will be cutting-edge innovative design studies, others just a few steps away from production, but all provide a window on the future of automobile design and technology. In addition, more than 43 vehicle manufacturers will feature over 1000 new cars, trucks, minivans and SUVs.

I realize it's way too early to post here, but I'm from the New York Metro area, Northern NJ, and I always look forward to, and never miss the New York Int. Auto Show. There's a lot to see and anticipate beforehand, with SEMA, LA and Detroit coming up, Followed by Chicago and Geneva (I only get to see debuts & showing of those via web & print), but NY I get to experience first hand! New York has become increasingly significant over the past years for fresh launchings & debuts.
I anticipate this greatly but I love to see what appears down the line of the other great expos.

Wow, I was not expecting the new G line to debut. Frankly, I'm expecting a "G Concept" line to be at NYIAS, not the official production models. The only thing that will be different from the production models will probably be the interior colors, wheels, and minor exterior trim, just like the M Concept compared to the production M45 Sport.

An interesting thing that the next-generation (2007) Altima will premiere in New York; it was the same situation in 2001 or so, the current generation Altima also premiered in NY. I remember how much of a surprise it was, how cutting-edge it was at the time, and how much attention it received! I'm sure it will be a step even more forward like the 2007 Camry that debuted in Detroit. Nissan & Infiniti seem to debut much at the New York shows, I notice.
Over the last few years, New York has had more and more major premieres. I'm looking forward to NYAIS, it's the only show I can actually attend, the rest, it's all Magazines, Blogs, Websites, etc., which I only get to see.

i'm hoping to see the next generation Lancer. DC has already launched the Caliber from the same next-gen Lancer platform, and has shown concepts of the Compass and Patriot. So if these three are all based on next-gen lancer, when will Mitsubishi show us the new Lancer?? Based on the few shots of the Evo X which were shown a few months back, I think the base Lancer will surely be nicer than the recently shown Sentra.

This question may be a bit off the cuff, but, I wonder when we'll see the next Infiniti Q45, the successor? It's at the end of it's life-cycle, it's facing formidable competition. The current model debuted in New York around 2000-01. The replacement should be pretty outrageous!

It's now (as of this post) less than a month until the press days of NYIAS. More reports and press-release photo's via web, later print, should emerge between now and then.
I think at this point, we do know of the next-generation Nissan Altima and Infiniti G35 sedan, the Lexus LS600 hybrid sedan, Saturn SKY Redline edition, production Aura and Outlook, and a couple of Suzuki debuts. There's quite a few I'm really anxious to see, especially now that I'm in the market for a new vehicle.

From Edmunds.com: Mazda will be replacing its long-running MPV minivan with the more dynamic 2007 CX-9 crossover in the fall of 2006. Look for the CX-9's debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show, with production vehicles, priced from $38,000 up, scheduled to appear soon after. Essentially a larger companion to the Mazda CX-7, this seven-passenger vehicle will feature three rows of seats and a 3.5-liter V6, all fitted to the Mazda 6 platform. Likely built in Japan.

It looks like Saturn is having a big showing in New York;
The Outlook, The production Aura, The Sky Red-line, and a production-close concept of the next-generation Vue. Saturn is now to be taken seriously.
Others highly anticipated are the top end-Hybrid version of the new Lexus LS with some serious power, I understand, and the next-generation Nissan Altima. wow, the LS hybrid already? according to the model release dateline, this isn't coming out until the end of next year, but judging by how long the GS450h took to come out, it might be about right. they really should have released the IS coupe here tho, to go head to head vs the new G's. but i guess they're waiting for BMW to show its 3er cards.

Here is where I got my information regarding the Saturn debuts:
http://www.cheersandgears.com/...=7037
It looks like there's a lot of serious debuts at NYIAS so far! Only three weeks until the press days!
It always seems Nissan/Infiniti hold significant debuts in New York, of course Nissan has premieres at the other major expositions, as well. The Nissan Murano was a surprise debut in New York a couple of years ago.
Reason I mention that is, and I want to share this excitement... tonight (3/20), I just placed a deposit on an '06 Nissan Murano SL!!! After much leg work and decision making (Dodge Magnum, VW Passat, & new generation V6 Toyota RAV4 were prime candidates) I decided on the Murano. I had to get rid of my old 1993 Ford Explorer Sport with 193,000 miles which no longer justified repair expences (I usually keep vehicles until they die). The reason for my 63Bonneville title is because I own a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville convertible which I display in vintage car shows and cruise nights, not a daily driver.
Sorry for the tangent and to be off topic, but, I had to share the excitement!

The next-generation model reportedly goes on sale this fall.
Details are scarce, but one thing to glean from the teaser photo above is that the new Altimas taillights will be markedly different from the outgoing models, so expect changes to the new vehicles front and rear facias.
Also at New York, the second-generation Acura MDX will debut in the form of
an MDX Concept, a dead ringer for the 2007 MDX due this fall. The new MDX has been designed and developed by Hondas research and development operations in the United States.
One more little teaser: We hear Ford is putting the finishing touches on a special throwback Mustang for New York, one that echoes the famed Hertz rental car Shelby Mustangs from the 60s. ...or Exhibitor pass, if an OEM representative (and, at that, not just a field rep, but a Product Planner, Designer or Managing Executive).
There are also Vendor passes, which are for those companies whose sole purpose is to help put on this kind of event (not just the fabricators, but also includes management at these firms, as well as designers, customer reps, etc.) and the various market research professionals/consultants that attend these shows.
Frankly, in this day and age, there's very little reason for a non-journalist to worry about getting a press kit; All of the information is up very shortly after on the web (if not beforehand). I go just because I like to see/hear the response and get a closer look at the vehicles (if I'm going to use photos off of the web, I at least want to have an idea what the photos might be showing). Sometimes, you'll hear some inside angle from friends at the other companies.

I await the next-gen Lancer. With the Caliber, Compass and Patriot already either previewed or actually in production, why have we not heard a peep about the Lancer?? If the DC trio is based on the next-gen Lancer, why no info on the Lancer yet??

Then again, considering that the car has already been shown in two concept formats, Mitsu may simply launch the car in Japan with a huge marketing push (the regular Lancer is not that big in Japan) and then show the car in L.A. or Detroit in 2007...

Is the E class thats going to be at NY a brand new redesigned model or just the refesh? From AutoNews:

Quote »

ACURA
Acura will unveil a concept version of the 2007 MDX, which goes on sale this fall. The company boasts that the second-generation MDX will have striking styling, new technology and performance unmatched in the segment. Look for a boost from today's 253 hp.
BENTLEY
Bentley will show its new Continental GTC convertible, the third and final variant of the model range. The two-plus-two convertible is powered by the same engine as the coupe and sedan, a 552-hp, 6.0-liter 12-cylinder powerplant. U.S. deliveries begin at year end.
FORD
It's deja vu all over again!
Ford will introduce the limited-edition 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H, a model with heritage linked to the 1966 Mustang GT 350H special edition that was created exclusively for Hertz Corp.
The car debuting in New York is a high-performance version of the 2006 Ford Mustang. Like the original, the GT-H will be available only to Hertz rental customers. The "rent-a-racer" is painted black and features gold racing stripes on the hood and along the sides of the car, signature cues of the 1966 model. Cars will be available at selected Hertz offices.
The GT-H features Ford racing parts and horsepower topping that of the standard Mustang GT. Fewer than 1,000 will be built. The limited-edition cars mark the 40th anniversary of the Shelby Hertz GT350H Mustang.
HONDA
Honda believes the minor styling and engineering changes planned for the 2007 Element will give its boxy SUV a youthful, sporty flavor. The suspension has been tweaked so that at least one Element model sits lower to the ground. Sales begin this fall.
HYUNDAI
The Elantra is an important car for Hyundai - its No. 2-selling vehicle in the United States behind the Sonata.
Hyundai says the redesigned 2007 Elantra provides more interior room than the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Also, the car is 2 inches taller than its predecessor for added headroom. Styling draws on the Sonata and Azera to create a family resemblance.
Power comes from a 138-hp, 2.0-liter inline-four. Standard features include six airbags and four-wheel antilock disc brakes.
INFINITI
Infiniti's G35 coupe and sedan receive midcycle enhancements for the 2007 model year. The changes include minor exterior styling changes, an interior upgrade, a horsepower boost and some added technology.
JEEP
Jeep expands its lineup with the four-door 2007 Wrangler Unlimited and the 2007 Patriot, a crossover.
The four-door Wrangler Unlimited is based on the redesigned two-door 2007 Jeep Wrangler; sales of both begin this fall. The stretched Unlimited shares Wrangler's 3.8-liter V-6 engine. Wrangler models gain more off-road capability, a new frame and more ground clearance.
The Wrangler line will retain Jeep's core off-road image as the brand expands to crossovers for the first time with the addition of the Patriot and Compass.
LEXUS
Lexus will unveil a hybrid version of its LS 460 flagship. Although Lexus has not announced the name, it filed a trademark claim for "LS 600hL" last year.
In deciphering this name, it seems Lexus is going to combine its 4.6-liter V-8 with a hybrid powerplant to provide the equivalent power of a 6.0-liter V-10 engine, while maintaining the fuel economy of a small-displacement V-8. The powertrain will be offered only in the long-wheelbase edition, making the hybrid a superflagship, likely costing more than $90,000.
MAZDA
The 2007 CX-9 will be Mazda's biggest crossover vehicle. The interior is configured for three rows of seats. The CX-9 shares a front-drive platform, a 3.5-liter V-6 and a six-speed automatic transmission with the 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. Mazda's suspension will be tweaked for a sporty ride.
MERCEDES-BENZ
The mildly face-lifted 2007 E class is expected to debut in New York. It features a restyled front fascia with three air intakes, a grille with wider ribs and new headlight and taillight treatments.
MITSUBISHI
The styling for the redesigned 2007 Outlander is drawn from Mitsubishi's Pajero Evolution, the SUV that won the 2004 Dakar rally. The new Outlander is powered by Mitsubishi's new 3.0-liter V-6 that makes about 220 hp. A six-speed automatic transmission will be offered with paddle shifters. All-wheel- and front-wheel-drive models will be available.
The 2007 Outlander seats seven and is larger than the current generation. The 2006 Outlander seats five.
Bluetooth wireless technology and a navigation system will be offered.
NISSAN
Nissan's stand will be busy with two world debuts.
The redesigned 2007 Nissan Altima is the first Nissan built on the automaker's new D platform. Engineering enhancements include a new front suspension, upgraded rear suspension and improved body rigidity. The Altima's wheelbase is 1 inch shorter than the 2006 model, but Nissan says the redesigned car has the same interior space as the current model.
The 2007 Altima is the first Nissan to receive the automaker's new 3.5-liter V-6 engine and the first Nissan sedan offered with a continuously variable transmission. Nissan says the new V-6 engine will provide slightly more horsepower than the current 250-hp V-6. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard with V-6 and four-cylinder engines.
The car goes on sale this fall. A hybrid model goes on sale in the winter of 2007.
The major news among midcycle enhancements to the 2007 Maxima is under the hood: A continuously variable transmission will be standard. Exterior changes are centered around the restyled front grille, hood, headlights, and front and rear fascias.
PONTIAC
Pontiac will unveil the G6 GXP, a concept that gives the G6 a powerful ground-hugging stance and a bigger dose of horsepower. GM will test both media and public reaction to the car before making a production decision.
The G6 GXP's suspension is tweaked, sitting 0.98 inches lower in suspension height. Highlighting the exterior styling changes is a redesigned front fascia, featuring an integrated lower air dam and a beefier chrome treatment of Pontiac's twin-port grille, as well as a twin air-scoop hood. The concept also has side rocker panels, 19-inch wheels and vented cross-drilled brake rotors.
Under the hood is a 270-hp, 3.9-liter V-6 with 259 pounds-feet of torque.
SATURN
GM's first production vehicle developed on the automaker's new Lambda vehicle architecture will debut in New York. The Saturn Outlook is a mid-sized crossover that will seat as many as eight. Fwd and awd models will be offered when sales begin this fall. The vehicle platform will be shared by Buick and GMC.
Saturn also will unveil its flagship sedan, the 2007 Aura, and the 270-hp 2007 Sky Red Line. Red Line is Saturn's high-performance brand. The Aura goes on sale this summer, while the Sky arrives at showrooms in the fall.
SCION
Toyota's youth brand will unveil the Fuse concept coupe, which may give some design cues for the next-generation tC coupe. The Fuse has a chopped top and a short snout. But past Scion concepts, such as the ccX and t2B, have had little in common with eventual production vehicles. So this year's vehicle may be just another wacky styling exercise to let Toyota designers strut their stuff.
SUZUKI
Suzuki's redesigned 2007 XL-7 will be the largest and most powerful SUV ever sold by the company. Sales begin this fall. A 3.6-liter V-6 engine producing about 250 hp will be standard, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.
VOLVO
Volvo's 2007 XC90 receives a series of midcycle enhancements. The biggest addition is a 3.2-liter inline-six, after a year of offering a turbo-five and V-8. The inline-six generates 235 hp and 236 pounds-feet of torque. The XC90's exterior receives restyled front and rear fascias.

saving gas was never the point of the lexus hybrids. they'r emade to increase performance without lowering fuel efficency. so the lexus will be a v12 competitor with v8 fuel efficiency. but first and foremost it will have that v12 performance. that's the important thing.

i was there. Was dissapointed not to see the 599GTB. The best car from the show was probably the Jaguar XK (looks stunning in person.) And the BMW Z4 coupe looked hot.
The Challenger is way too big.
The new Altima looks much better in person than in these pics (and many people who were there were saying things like "its much better than the new camry" and "it's beautiful"). I think it's going to be a hit.
The Biggest Dissapointment was the Infiniti G35. ugly. They just added a few more lines without actually changing what was wrong with the outgoing car. Lexus is actually starting to look hotter than Infiniti.
There was also no GT-R Proto there. i think.

That is the Team Lexus Motorsport modified IS. The powertrain remained the same, but the suspension setup, brake system and wheels were all extensively modified. The interior covered in charcoal-colored Alcantara.
