View Full Version : Design Challenge: New CitroŽn Flagship

01-15-2011, 06:53 AM
1. 2030 Asymmetrical Vehicle - With the rapid advancement in technology, One can only imagine the freedom designers will have 19 years from now, when it comes to materials, manufacturing, form and shapes. Are you up for the challenge of designing a beautiful FUTURISTIC asymmetrical vehicle for the year 2030.

2. New CitroŽn Flagship - CitroŽn is a brand rich in history, with a portfolio boasting some of the most polarizing designs to ever grace the automotive world. The C6 has been on the market for quite some time and the brand has shown some drop dead gorgeous concepts over the past few years hinting that a new design language is on the horizon. Can you let your imaginations run wild and design the next CitroŽn flagship.

3. TVR Revival - TVR has been in a constant state of limbo over the past few years, the brand has frequently changed hands and could never really find their footing. They have however managed to produce some of the most desirable vehicles the world has ever seen. The brand has been promising a new model for years! Can you bring the brand into the 21st century.

3. Isuzu Comeback Vehicle - Before the world went wild for crossovers and SUV's there existed Isuzu, The brand single handedly ruled the segment but somehow lost their way as more manufacturers entered the segment. Isuzu pushed boundaries with their designs and constantly strived to reinvent the SUV. With the general public pretty much clueless as to whether the brand still exists, the time is right for a great comeback story.

New CitroŽn Flagship

Looks like we've got a tie between the TVR and CitroŽn challenge. While I can't recall their ever being a contest involving a French Manufacturer, I'm biased towards going with the CitroŽn contest. What do you guys think?

01-20-2011, 11:24 PM
I voted for the TVR, but I would be equally pleased with the Citroen actually.

01-21-2011, 06:11 PM
Since my drawing skills are crap, I don't participate in these contest.
However, I always like what you guys come up with.
Personally, I'd like to see a new Citroen Flagship.

01-24-2011, 07:55 AM
I haven't participated in a long time, but this might get me back on board! Citroen (of course)

01-24-2011, 02:14 PM
FWIW, having suggested the TVR topic, I can say I'd be happy with the Citroen topic as well.

Can't we do them both? One now and the other one later.

When it comes to design, French manufacturers often break away from the mainstream setting their own trends for the rest of the world to follow. For almost a century CitroŽn has led the pack earning a reputation for innovation and revolutionary engineering, A statement which was cemented with the release of the iconic DS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CitroŽn_DS). The brand is currently in the midst of a design revolution as witnessed with the release of several show stopping concept cars over the past few years as well as the recently launched DS subline. But what is really missing from the brand is a top of the line model which embodies the epitome of luxury and savoir-faire. Is the modern day CitroŽn Flagship a low slung jaw dropping high performance alternatively powered GT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT_by_CitroŽn)? or perhaps the time is right for a second coming of the DS (http://www.carbodydesign.com/2011/01/citroen-ds24-concept-new-design-images/). Designers its up to you to decide!

Good luck designers!!! This contest will end on February 26.
Also, don't forget to post your development sketches and ideations in the Contest Development Thread (http://www.carspyshots.net/showthread.php?t=16571)

Put on your wacky hats, kids!! :grintoothless: I'm really hoping to see some fun stuff in this one.

02-09-2011, 12:39 PM
I'll have an entry... hopefully in time

02-21-2011, 02:30 AM
Here's mine, not much to say about it, but I'm pretty happy with it, other than the terrible perspective on the rear sketch. Hope you like it!

It's a 4 day weekend for me, and it's been rather quiet around here, might as well enter, right?

Tada! The Citroen C - Ailuros. Apart from a few issues (WHEELS I'M LOOKING AT YOU.) I'm pretty happy with it! That, and I don't think my other drawings qualified as "Flagship." Also, I'd like to apologize for the lightness of it. Graphite doesn't translate too well through photos. I hope you like it!

A flagship with the Citroen touch. I used the iconic DS as my inspiration.
Prospective kinda bad, but didn't feel like fixing it...

02-23-2011, 12:45 AM
Three STUNNING entries so far. I have some ideas; if I have the time I'd like to give it a go.

02-25-2011, 06:52 PM
Man I started off with some good sketches of Citroen and their design, but suddenly there has just been a lot. I have been constantly working on a design task, because I am going to attend the Danish Design School next year. So I wont make it.. I'll try to get something cooking tonight, but not sure if I can make it.

03-01-2011, 12:47 AM
Anyone else planning on entering? Or shall I go ahead and close this.

03-01-2011, 12:51 AM
Really wanted to enter but I won't have the time to throw anything together soon :( Again, though, incredible entries. It's gonna be tough voting.

Got a scanner sat somewhere behind me in the library, might have time to put something up in next hour

OK just a quicky,
taken some cues from Survolt etc

Would love to draw it up as something more than a thumbnail sketch but it's not going to happen

NelsonDesign: Looks a bit tall but seems to have all the sleek edginess citroŽns going for... 4

Bob!: Smart as, has a nice rounded CitroŽn face but not too sure how the rest fits with the brand... 2

ElementW: Wasn't too sure but the more I look at it the more I like it, wheels and lights especially. More definition to the lines would do this design wonders... 4

Nelson - 5 points, I really like how you have captured the Citroen design in a rather german way. I think your front view is the most successful. The rear looks a bit funny.

ElementW - 4 points, you have taken the old C8 design and made it into a cool futuristic looking car. I thinks it is really cool.

Nath - 2 points, I like your design and the proportions, but I dont think it looks like a flagship for Citroen

Bob! - 2 points, I think its a good idea, but the wheels look a bit weird and so does the overall perspective.

03-09-2011, 04:00 PM
Nelsondesign - 5 - I agree that the front is the most successful of the four entries. The rear slightly less so, but in concert they exude the sophistication of a top-notch luxury model. I'd have preferred a longer hood and more conventional sedan shape, but it's a lovely design (and fantastic sketch, as usual).

Bob! - 5 - I appreciate the bold decision to make Citroen's flagship a supercar. I like the face and the shape. Some of the side surfacing is a tad confusing. Your sketching style has improved, though I think I liked some of your idea sketches a little more ;)

ElementW - 4 - Very bold new face! And I like that it retains the simplicity that made the C6 so elegant. I'm not sure about the treatment of the side, though, and the rear view is a little "out there." Terrific as a concept, I'd say.

Nath - 3 - A cute car, I like the way you have adapted the Survolt design language. My only concern is that the overwrought details make it appear closer in size to, say, an MX-5 and as such it doesn't seem to quite fit the bill of a flagship model. Still, nice car!

Great entries, guys. Voting was tough.

03-09-2011, 08:48 PM
NelsonDesign-4- It's too tall but the front is hip and edgy. I guess cause of the prospective but the rear doesn't really jive with the front. But your sketching style is a ten.
BoB-2- A supercar could make a great flagship but the shape is a bit too conventional for a Citroen.
Nath-2- Makes for an attractive car but can't see this as a flagship.

03-10-2011, 01:39 AM
Bob!- 3 - Seems like a cool idea for Citroen, and has some nice cues. Could definitely use more Citroen aesthetics though.. Great job

Element- 5 - I really like this design, very funky and Citroen like. It has nice character lines! My only nit-pick is that it uses more of a late 90's style Citroen design language. Very good Element

Nath- 4- Really like the forms in this one, and those "swooshing" features in the design. Would have really been cool to see flushed out.

Great job guys

03-13-2011, 06:08 AM
4.- NelsonDesign: Your design a fresh, restrained and modern but it reads more C-segment as opposed to a flagship model.

3.- ElementW: I think you met the objective of the challenge with your design. It has the instant recognizability of being a CitroŽn, however the design is more in tune with what we have already seen from the brand.

3.- Bob!: Interesting approach towards a flagship model, I think the design can be pushed further to command the presence expected from a flagship.

2.- Nath: Doesn't read as a flagship, but still would have loved to see you develop your idea there is tons of potential with this design.

03-13-2011, 06:33 AM
Hope I'm not too late!

ElementW - 4 An update to the C6 was a great idea for a new flagship, and I'm really digging your design! It's edgy, futuristic, and I can see it becoming the top-of-the-line Citroen.

Nath - 3 For a quick sketch, your Citroen turned out very nice, albeit a bit messy. I really like how you incorporated the Survolt/Revolte front end!

NelsonDesign - 2 Very edgy and super super clean! Proportions are lovely, but I think I'm missing the flagship Citroen feeling, if that made any sense.

Again, Great job guys, thanks for the comments and I hope to join another contest in the near future~
