(Dec. 5, 2005) Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) will push the limits again with the world reveals of two more vehicles that thrill the 2007 Eclipse Spyder and the Concept-CT MIEV at the upcoming 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January. The company is building its strongest product portfolio in history, launching six new vehicles in less than three years, including the all-new 2006 Eclipse, Raider mid-size pickup truck, and now the 07 Eclipse Spyder.
The Eclipse Spyder and the breakthrough Concept-CT continue the excitement of the brand and demonstrate new design directions and potential future technologies, said MMNA President and CEO Rich Gilligan. We are rebuilding our brand with products that consistently reinforce our commitment to being driven to thrill.
Concept-CT
The world reveal of the innovative Concept-CT MIEV will showcase a forward-thinking design study in B-segment packaging. The concepts inspiration was to create a city-technology model a desirable small car optimized for todays needs. Designed at the Mitsubishi Motors design center in Cypress, Calif., the Concept-CT will feature a hybrid powertrain incorporating a representative gasoline engine with Mitsubishi In-wheel motor Electronic Vehicle (MIEV) technology, a function recently shown at the Tokyo Motor Show, whereby the wheels are driven by four outer-rotor, in-wheel electric motors. Combining environmental technology and exciting design characteristics along with the all-wheel-drive MIEV system, the concept provides a glimpse into the future of next-generation hybrid powertrain vehicles. The in-wheel motor component systems, with accompanying graphics and video, will be displayed at the Mitsubishi NAIAS exhibit.

Could very well be based on the same design study. With Mitsu still being in a bit of a cash crunch, it would seem plausible that they would want to save some money on concepts...

Rumor has it this is a design study for their b-segment car for the US by 2008. So hopefully it will good and impress so Mitsu can offer a car in this segment.

i like the in-wheel motors.
i dont like that the term "cool city car" might indicate the standard hip car, for youthful consumers, urban environments, modern needs. flexible, blah blah blah. flat folding back seat with hard plastic to make a flat load floor, a cd player that plays MP3 encoded CDs, a jack for your ipod, a cool sunroof, tie down hooks everywhere to secure my extreme sports equipment, a washable interior for all the mud and sand i get in there because i go surfing and hiking and dirt biking every weekend.
well, at least, i hope that's not all that's coming.

It is different that's for sure. The thing looks rather small compared to the sketch which made it look wide and fat. almost makes me think this is based off the colt platform.

You are correct. The COLT platform was used as the basis for this concept.

This is suppose to hint at a B segment car for Mitsu in NA and I say BUILD IT. With the styling toned down for production it would look pretty good. something different....
The more I look at it the more I like it...

It feels like a modern incarnation of the Lancia Delta Integrale 4 door hatch.... and all the better for it. Very rally ready design... could do well on both sides of the Atlantic.... a difficult feat (achem.... Focus). This design is horribly overwrought though... that old Chrysler-like pseudo A-pilar is awful.... BUT.... the proportions are pretty good.... wouldn't mind seeing a toned down version.

Wow! Mitsubishi decided to strengthen its comeback by making a modern version of the AMC Gremlin ugliness melded with the Pacer's ugliness. If this were to land in the USA it would be shunned.

I hope Mitsu puts this design to use..... a very masculine design for a sub-compact, which is hard to come by.
They could put the engine in the front though
