Interesting, but far from a knockout. It was a good try, but the results weren't worth it.

Pretty cool car there. Too bad it is an automatic. At least we know it is the safest hot rod you can buy. (If it ever were to go on sale.)

The interior's dashboard look odd, but the exterior's look is alright. For 100% sure it was designed years ago.

It has a twin-turbo S80 2.7 with 325hp, only weighs like 1000 kilos. I havent seen it in a dragstrip but it wouldnt surprise me if it was faster than an Westfield

It's not a bad effort then.
Although it's surprisingly unsexy for that type of car. Sort of a dour Swedish take on the Plymouth Prowler (though probably a helluva lot quicker!).

did they just buy a plymouth prowler and paste a chrome bar over the grill

From scratch (well.. obvilusly using components off other Volvos, but still). I think it also won "Hot Rod of the year" (arranged by some magazine) back in the days.
Like you said this is really old though, saw it at a local show 2 years ago. Don't know why it took Volvo this long to present it at SEMA.
I have to admit it is a VERY impressive piece of machinery

I wouldn't mind me a S60 R sofa like that. I read that they used many parts from an S80 and that Volvo sponsored this project (along with other companies such as ohlins) so I guess that the logical thing for them to have done was to give them a s80 and have them mess around with it rather than just hand out individual parts. After taking the engine, transmission, bit of interior and other part I guess they had some stuff left over and must have decided to make some furniture with it.
