View Full Version : Design Challenge: BMW Isetta

10-18-2009, 06:37 AM
1. New BMW Isetta - The Isetta was one of the most successful microcars produced in the post-World War II years—a time when cheap, short-distance transportation was most needed. Fast forward to these bleak economic times and unstable fuel prices, once again the general public needs a cheap reliable vehicle. Given BMW's runaway success of the Mini revival a modern generation Isetta is pretty much a no- brainer.

2. 2050 Design Challenge - Forty one years from now, the automobile is going to have to evolve. From evolutions in design, technology and our fuel sources. Your mission designers is to revolutionize the automobile as we know it for the 21st century.

They say everything old is new again, the BMW Isetta was one of the most successful microcars produced in the post-World War II years—a time when cheap, short-distance transportation was most needed. Given the publics obsession with nostalgia and the microcar segment heating up, your mission designers is to redesign this automotive icon for the 21st century.

Good luck designers!!! This contest will end on Nov 02.
Also, don't forget to post your development sketches and ideations in the Contest Development Thread (http://www.carspyshots.net/showthread.php?t=16571)

That looks terrific, dsgnr. Your experience with BMW is obvious in your command of the design language. Very nice work.

Thank you very much DoMiNo for the nice words.

At this point I'd like to point out that you shouldn't except any design clues in this drawing. I even don't know if there's gonna be an Isetta or any other micro car or not (really). Once I was close to getting beef in a similar situation...so, just take it for the record.

I'm going to have a crack at this, 7th yeah??
Not much time so don't expect much

11-05-2009, 05:31 PM
for the record, 30 mins.. finished the basic design, just to draw it up... Off to work now so that'll be tomorrows job

OK, an incredibly quick doodle. Would love to spend more time on it and might at some point.
Trying to get a nice mix of Isetta retro and modern minicar... Would be plug in electric I guess

Both entries are evenly matched. I think both catch the so-ugly-it's-cute-to-some styling of the original. Nath is my choice because the weirdness that an Isetta would have to have is better channeled in his entry.

11-11-2009, 10:13 PM
My vote goes to dsgnr, since his design fits BMW's style best.

11-12-2009, 12:12 AM
Vote goes to Dsgnr...Nath's Isetta looks a little too retro...

11-13-2009, 11:58 AM
I'll vote for dsgnr too.

His design looks more modern and fits better with the rest Bmw lineup.

11-13-2009, 03:22 PM
I will also ote for dsgnr, his sketching style is so awesome and it looks more modern and complete :D

congratulations to dsgnr on your first win! please sit tight, I'm going to try spin this one off into another design battle.
