Great chops. It's amazing how much better the "370Z" looks with the terrible DLO fixed.

Hey, sorry for asking, but whats DLO?

Ascariss
08-27-2009, 03:24 AM
DLO = daylight opening, or the glasshouse of the cars or the windows and roof together.

Here's mine. She's kinda homely, but I didn't have too much time or inspiration this week. Basically it's a "four door coupe" style Nissan sedan with 370Z cues. I called it the 370N. It's all pieces of the Z, save for Maxima headlights (which I morphed to flow with the front end) and door handles from a G37.

<a href="http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/5562/nissan370ngrey.jpg"><img src="http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/5562/nissan370ngrey.jpg" width="400"/></a>

Lots of changes - stretched wheelbase to accommodate the extra doors was the trickiest.

changes:
lower front and back bumper, and lower skirt.
red brake(unfortunately speedfreak has done it before i do)
air vents
bigger rear wheel
black smoked headlights.

Wow - my home monitor is pretty crappy. I'll start off by saying I didn't really think any of the cars this time around blew me away looks wise, so sorry if that sounds harsh at all. But I think that's more the Z's fault, not anyone else's. I found it's proportions very hard to work with. It's like it can be a Z but nothing else...

blackstripe - 4 points
Not too bad, but the look is a bit off for me. The roof looks a bit peaky or something, and the DLO looks kinda squashed horizontal. And there might be some blending wierdness above the rear wheel well, but I can't really tell on this monitor (it doesn't show contrast very well). Not bad though. I think I may be more harsh on the look because Porsche already offers a car similar to this, so it seems kinda redundant. I suppose this could be a sort of modern 944 though.

S2 - 4 points
Very nice. I like the idea and the DLO. Just a couple little things... The black area inside the small 3/4 window isn't parallel with the bottom of the window. I like the black A-pillar, but I don't like how it integrates with the bottom at it's base. I know that's how the Z was, but it doesn't look right with the contrasting colour. I think it would look cool if it ended at the base of the windows. Not really keen on the rear end for this car either, but the Z didn't exactly leave a good base to work from. This car would look a lot better without the Z bubble butt.

TheophilusChin - 5 points
Very well done, but I don't think the proportions of the Z translate very well to an Aston. Too tall and chunky. But can't find anything to fault for the quality.

BryanRC - 2 points
Not enough changed to me... I like the new headlights though, as well as the revised DLO. The taillights look a bit off to me though. Also you can see where the logo was removed behind the front wheel.

iqbal - 2 points
Very aggresive, but again not a huge amount of changes. The vents behind the front wheels look like they're pointing the wrong direction - they seem to be pointing down a bit too much. Maybe if the Z logo was moved up and they were pointed a bit higher.

Baji192 - 3 points
Actually it looks very nice (save the tailights - a bit too big for me). I gave it three point due the the blending, although you admitted it wasn't your best. Looks amazing though if you look past that. The rims look a bit out of place too, as if they don't match the lighting.

Porsche-Power - 3 points
Wish it was a little larger to see it better. The proportions are a bit off to me - it's like it's features are either too big or too small. Front end looks too small, the wheels look too big, and the DLO looks too small. The rear door handle looks a bit too big too. Most of the chopping work looks ok, but there's a few small issues, like the chrome window surround not being on the a pillar, etc. The windows through the DLO look a bit off too. I like the look of the Murano grille though.

mucus - 5 points
I don't know why I like it so much. It just looks like a Bertone concept or something from the 90's. Bizarre, but kinda cool. My only fault would be the big fog lights... The look like they're facing the front direction, but the outside edge of their inset seems like it should be wider, more oval. I'm not sure if I can say this properly... Because they're so wide, the outside edge would have to be curved to match the curvature of the slightly peaked front, so they'd be more oval than the lights themselves... I hope that makes sense.

ACcartoons - 2 points
Looks like that sporty Prius coupe the auto news is talking about! If the blank area in the DLO where the pillar were removed, and the added door cutlines flowed with the body side a bit better, it would have placed higher. Not keen on the colour either - too bright with few highlights to give it depth. But grey is a VERY hard colour to change - it always looks matte.

Blackstripe - 3
I have to say, it does look good, but I feel that it may have been a little bit to easy to just wack on a Porsche front end.

S2 - 4
WowZa! That was my reaction when i first saw it! Looks quite good. The rear seems to be a little out of proportion though, especially the rear wheel.

TheophilusChin - 4
:-P its so cute. A baby aston. I like it. Nothing to do with the idea of the chop itself, but the colour looks a bit 'painted on' and matte. Perhaps a different shade would have looked more real.

BryanRC - 1
I know your probably busy, but the changes were too minimal. Putting a Renault badge on the front doesn't really make it a Renault. Sorry if i sound a little harsh. Its just that your other chops are usually more creative.

Speedstick - 5
Out of all the chops, i think this one was the most original and best executed. Good quality photochopping too. The only problem that i see is that rear seat occupants might have a little less headroom than expected.

Iqbal - 3
Minor changes, but It looks quite good. Nissan 370Z - Iqbal Sports Edition :-P I like.

Porsche-Power - 3
I would've liked to see a larger picture. Overall, I like the concept and design, it really does look nice.

Mucus - 4
If i were to choose between any of these chops to own, I'd have to say I'd choose yours Mucus. VERY interesting design and very creative of you. I like the "altezza" style tailights. I have to admit though, im not really a fan of the half windshield and windows. But this would be so much fun out on a beach or 4WD'ing. Good job.

ACcartoons - 2
Very Priusy. I didn't like the colour, as it thought it drew too much attention away from the other aspects of the chop.

S2- 3
firstly it looks nice. but the front colour is white. the rest looks silver as the original. the back tyre make the car looked like the rear wheel arch broader than the front.

TheophilusChin - 5
top work. very cute. very nice. top quality. i like.

BryanRC - 2
not much changed. and it doesnt look renault-ish. sorry mate.

very good quality chop. but the hood looks too high. and the roof is low. overall, looks great.

Baji192 - 4
very nice. the rear wheels seems smaller than the front. and the rim doesn't match the lighting.

the wheels are too large. it's not suitable to be a sedan. anyway, i like the murano grille :)

Thanks for the points & feedbacks guys! i do agree with you, Speedstick, the bumper's curvature is quite tricky for me to fit the foglamp

4: blackstripe - nice chop, i wish you changed the wheels too
3: S2 - i'm not really feeling the Lancer's nose
4: TheophilusChin - same like blackstripe's; i wish you changed the wheels too
2: BryanRC - very minimal changes
5: Speedstick - imho it's not a pretty-looking car, but the quality is superb
3: iqbal - nice mods, could add some vinyls to spice things up
4: Baji192 - clean chop, although the windowline doesn't flow with the rest of the car
4: Porsche-Power - i like the grille on this, and yes the wheelcasts are so big it made the standard wheels look puny
3: ACcartoons - kinda looks like a prius, and the color is on the flat side

I think this was a weird photo to 'shop in general - the proportions are weird to start. Small wheels and large wheel wells in particular. Its unfortunate - I think if it weren't for this the final results would have been much nicer in many cases. So I won't comment on these.

S2 - 4 - Looks good, aggressive nose of the Mitsu fits well, though front overhang looks massive. Rear wheels look like they are in proportion, but sides stick down past the tire :P
TheophilusChin - 5 - Looks great! The proportions actually look nice here, good job. An Aston cannot have calipers that say NISSAN on them, though.
BryanRC - 2 - Very few changes. Front looks odd, and obvious ctrl-c ctrl-v job on the Z. Like the headlights though.
Speedstick - 4 - Looks homely, but hugely aggressive! Flawless chop, too. What doesn't work for me is the overly high and long nose - seems larger towards the front than towards the base of the windscreen. Greenhouse is also too small in comparison.
iqbal - 3 - Aggressive. Vents on the front bumper don't look right though.
Baji192 - 4 - Quality of the shading and lighting seems a little off, maybe a bit messy, but the car looks great overall. Another car that looks well proportioned.
Porsche-Power - 4 - Wheels and rear door handle look too large. Like the Murano grill though. You really have to start submitting your chops in higher resolution, too.
mucus - 5 - Love it!! Very creative, and looks fantastic.
ACcartoons - 2 - I kind of like the "Prius"-ish proportions, but the paint is way overdone. Dark drill and wheels look niiiice though.

blackstripe - 4 - Interesting, but the perspective is wrong... I would have given it 3, but the perspective of the 370z is bad, so it's not really your fault. So 4 =)

TheophilusChin - 4 - Quite like it, not an over all Aston shape tho..

BryanRC - 3 - Some nice mods, although abit rough

Speedstick - 4 - Aggressive front! Maybe too american..

iqbal - 3 - some minor changes but clean 'shop

Baji192 - 5 - I love this, the curves work so well!

Porsche-Power - 2 - Interesting.. But just don't like the look of it..

mucus - 4 - Very nice! Very different!

ACcartoons - 3 - Quite like this, try not to over saturate the colours
