looks like a body-kitted escape.

I wonder on which chassis this model is based. Escape, Explorer, maybe even the Ecosport? When I first saw the drawing, I thought maybe this was a follow up to the small SUV concept shown at NAIS (SynUS?), and was showing Ford's idea for an XB competitor. The magnified drawing seems to show body lines more in keeping with the Escape or Explorer.

it has a great front end design from the looks of it, but the side looks just like an escape. i'm almost positive those door handles are the same as the escape's in fact, which would mean that this is escape-based.

Same-old, same-old................... I thought Ford recognized it had a problem with safe/bland design and that they were going to be more adventurous. This looks like an Escape with a new, but seen-before, grille. And they want to present this in Tokyo, where it's the wackier the better?

The whole side of the concept is a rip-off of the old Honda CRV

The grille looks far to narrow to carry both the truck 'nostrils' and the tri-bar. They should either shrink the headlights to widen the grille or choose between the nostrils and the tri-bar IMO.

knicks125

Probably the basis for the next Escape/Maverick but for now it's the Equator concept
Please note this is the SUV version of the Equator (concept). Ford released a truck-like concept by the same name back in 2000.

This is just a slightly modded version of the current escape. For god's sake the friekin' interior is almost the same too. What the heck was Ford thinking?

I agree i like this and hope the general shape of the next Escape is similar to this... Though i hope the Mazda Tribute is ALOT more different in exterior and interior styling then the current model

You realize this is just the current escape with new fenders, hood and bumper. Its the same car they have been building for years.

I totally missed this thread! I dont get it, is it a facelift? And tjts1, i believ the car started production eitheri n 2000 or 2001, its not that old...

A concept to be exact (or labled so by Ford), but this should be a good preview for the next Escape/Maverick.

There was a para or 2 about this vehicle in the UK mag Autocar.
Supposedly the (un-named) designer claims the inspiration for the grille comes from the bonnet bulge of his own Falcon XR8.
I'm not sure how a grille can be inspired by a bonnet bulge, and I can't see any resemblance myself. But it implies the Equator was a Ford Australia effort, unless someone in Detroit's running around in one of these:

Brings a tear to my eye, good ol Ford Australia! I can see what he means, and its there, just look at how the bonnet buldge goes, although not similar to the actual concept, the idea is similar (god thats confusing)! I say put bonnet buldges on the rest of the V8 Ford linup! Like a V8 signature for Ford models...

That IS an Escape.. very mildly warmed over. Updated w/ the 221-horse 3 liter and 6-speed auto. Ford is contemplating another mid-life warmover before it's finally completely replaced.

I was hoping to see a truck bigger than the expedition and smaller than the excursion. But I was wrong and I also see that Ford has learned from their mistake of the ultimate suv in the excursion.

This is a joke.... it looks old already.... nice details, patheticly outdated shape. The Ford Edge looks about 10 years newer than this.... oh wait, that's because it is. It reminds me of when I see 2 gen old Accords with nice aftermarket halogens head/taillamps and decent body kits. The escape looked old when it was new. Why bother with this? Oh, because Ford is cheap, strapped for cash and shortsighted with their investments.
