The buick will be easier because of the simple background. Hope the Buick wins =D

08-14-2009, 10:38 AM
the buick looked easier because of the front design (which makes it easy to chop it into a different model) and the background. and like S2, i also hope the buick wins

08-14-2009, 11:00 AM
I have an idea for the Buick and I also have an as yet unannounced idea for the Cruze so either way I'm happy. :D

Good to see two images so closely fighting it out, I just hope we do end up with a winner!

08-14-2009, 11:58 AM
Im going to have to say Cruze because i don't like the angle of the image of the LaCrosse. From that angle, its proportions don't look right. It looks kind of fat.

08-14-2009, 04:37 PM
I have no idea what to do with the Cruze though. It's so boring.

08-14-2009, 04:52 PM
aw man... i backed the wrong horse
was hoping for the Buick, always a fan of simple backgrounds!
I'm affraid the Cruze seems soul-less to me but maybe a good 'chop will change that!

08-14-2009, 05:37 PM
I've got a LOL idea for the Cruz now. So I'm good with whatever.

08-14-2009, 05:41 PM
Hmmm... Something tells me this Cruze needs a good LOL factor!

08-15-2009, 04:17 PM
Too busy talking to a member to realise it's new contest time!

To help shift us onto the new timeframe (as discussed here (http://www.carspyshots.net/showthread.php?t=17745) this contest will be left open until Friday.

Very cool work Ruthven!

I especially like what you did with the bonnet. Looks nice in a retro sort of way.

Uhg I just chopped a completely uninspiring hatch. I think I'll hold on to that in case an idea hits me though -.-

08-17-2009, 02:12 PM
I don't know if i make a Stationwagon or the new lacetti

well I have to say that the designers of the original cruze have no idea how to design headlights since they make no sense.

What is it? Well it is an updated chevy cruze for the north american market with new grill, liights and roof and of course a hybrid system thrown in, see the little logo on the side :P enjoy.

Due to the current financial crisis, Bentley has decided to follow the lead of Rolls Royce, with it's upcoming Ghost model. Taking this idea to the extreme, Bentley plans to introduce a new small car to the market using select pieces of the Chevrolet Cruze to keep costs down. It'll share it's engines, mechanics and basic body shell with the Cruze, but receive all new coupe bodywork, interior trim in the classic Bentley treatment, and it's own suspension setup. Pieces of the car such as the windshield, mirrors, doorhandles and portions of the interior (mainly buttons and electronics) are to be shared. Production is set to start in South Korea alongside the Chevrolet Cruise, and will come to the United States with the estimated price point of $50,000.

PS: For my inspiration for this car, research the name a bit... More specifically, towns in Montrose County, Colorado.

My shot at a RWD Cruze Coupe.
I thought it looked good when I had it in Paint.NET but now I come to look at it, the rear overhang is waaay too inflated.

And here's mine Station wagon variant off the Cruze

Some very, very good entries so far in this contest!

My big idea kind of fell through and I can't get anything else working so I'm not going to be entering.

08-19-2009, 04:45 PM
Initially I wanted to do this (http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj117/blackstripe77/ChevroletCruzeretardery.jpg) crazy Cruze but I couldn't get the look to work right... So I got this (http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj117/blackstripe77/ChevroletCruzePS3.jpg) boring hatch with a two tone paint job inspired by classic Chevys.

The awkward paint reminded my of crazy French cars so I turned the Cruze into this.

One of my worst pieces haha. Also I wonder why it is that Photobucket gives all the deep candy reds an orange hue.

you had to made the colors like the charleston then it looks like the new 2cv charleston

Ruthven -4- .It looks good, very Vauxhall.

Kthing -3- Nice work but,it seems a bit nose heavy.

Ascariss -5- Its what the cruze should have been like from the start.

TheophilusChin -5- Looks Great, top work as usual.

Speedstick -5-

mucus -4- It looks nice,aggressive:)

ACcartoons -3-Your improving, but the rear seems very heavy looking.

Porsche-Power -4- Well Done,I like it alot

blackstripe -4- It will stand out in a crowd well.

phantomex -4- That is nice, mean looking, what rival would that be up against?

rpjn -3- The rear seems too short.

08-21-2009, 06:28 PM
Ruthven- 3
Kthing - 4
Ascariss -4

i didnt think anything was too spectacular this time, so i gave noone a 5. but i think that was one of the most unispiring cars to chop

Ruthven - 3 points
Work is mostly very good. Front end looks a bit heavy, although I like what you were going for. I think it might look better had the air inlet below the license plate been left. In the real world, that's where the car would get most of it's air as well. The rear end of the car looks too light - there isn't enough contrast along the edges of the spoiler and the backlight. Maybe if there were a slim area along the outer edge of a lighter colour - almost white. It'd help to simulate the curvature. And differentiate the body from the water.

Kthing - 4 points
I really like the subtle detailing changes, and although it isn't really part of the car design (nor did it affect my scoring), I really like the background. I gave it a 4 though because some of the features up front look a little stretched vertically. Specifically the headlights.

BryanRC - 2 points
I like the edit to the rear window. But I'm not a huge fan to the other changes. And overall it's not all that different. Also the rims look a bit low contrast. Kinda like they're matte.

Ascariss - 5 points
How the Cruze should have looked like in the beginning, IMO. Kinda looks like a mini-Malibu. It's almost as if they tried to make the Cruze "exciting" but adding unnecessary details.

TheophilusChin - 3 points
I don't think I'd ever rate Theo this low, but I don't dig some of the details. It's mostly well done, but the headlights and taillights look off (too big and too small). Also - the little window behind the door looks a bit funky to me. To me it looks like it should be slightly longer (to incorporate a bit of a hidden pillar?), and the black surround is on the front and bottom edge, but not the back. And being really picky - the little window on the driver's side looks smaller than what you can see through the windsheild. I like the lower portion of the car a lot though - the black and how well it's integrated.

mucus - 4 points
I like the Volt/TL look. However the rooms look a bit flat and the rearward edge of the rear window is kinda clashing (the inside has a curve to it, but the outside edge is pretty angular). The cutline beneath is a bit weird too.

ACcartoons - 1 point
I like the curve of the windows (looks like the Monaro), but the execution is lacking a bit. Also I find the paint colour unrealistically bright.

Porsche-Power - 4 points
Very good and spot on looks wise, but a couple areas bring it down for me. One is the front rim - looks a bit out of place. Like it needs to be straightened. The other is the fog lights - they look a little too airbrushed. Maybe if you could see the lenses.

blackstripe - 2 points
Not a huge fan of the looks. The airbrushing could be smoother up front to the left of the air scoops. Also - the top edge of the black on the door seems to suddenly decrease partway through the rear door. I like the roofline though, and the contrasting colour is pretty nifty fifties. Rims look nice too.

phantomex - 3 points
I kinda dig the "new Caliber" idea, but I'm not into the greenhouse - too many sharp edges. Also - the driver's side edge of the grille looks like it's too high compared to the other side.

rpjn - 5 points
Very ambitious. Looks really cool, but the rear end is a tad stubby. Maybe if the taillights were positioned lower? PS: You missed the turn idicator before the front door when doing the colour change...

08-21-2009, 09:09 PM
Ruthven - 4 - Front looks great, I really like what you did with the lower bumper and headlights not sure on the rear part of the roof and window since it also is not done on the other side?

Kthing - 4 - nice work on adding the new audi panels, I'd give you 3.5-3.75 since most f hte side and front is not from the original but donor but ben said no decimals.

BryanRC - 2 - brian it is not bad, but you def need to invest in a new photoshopping program like photoshop or paint shop pro by corel. Still keep practising.

TheophilusChin - 5 - clean work as always, like the colour as well and the headlights, not sure on that rear light though.

Speedstick - 5 - lol not sure bentley would like your idea :P, stll great work, colour fits as does the grill nicely. I do think the glasshouse is a bit too tall or high for the car and the sheetmetal right behind the headdlights needs more finishing touches.

mucus - 4 - very cool colour and style, only thing bothering me are the rims and tires for some reason.

ACcartoons - 3 - hmm I don't abou the colour, a tad too green, but a coupe is a good idea, wonder if chevy will opt for one.

Porsche-Power - 5 - very cool, I could see this working in europe, but that background needs to go :P

blackstripe - 4 - not the preetiest of cars but the most unique here for sure.

phantomex - 4 - roof seems a bit high and that rail needs work with a second one added on the other side but otherwise a small wagon for dogdge to battle the corolla would be good.

rpjn - 3 - I like the idea, but the front and rims are definetely off angle. but if cleaned up, it would def work and garner a 4 and not a 3.

08-21-2009, 10:55 PM
Thanks for the points & feedback guys!

3: Ruthven - well done with the nose, but i don't really feel the rear hatch
4: Kthing - it's passable as an Audi, but the bonnet line on the fron fender looks a bit busy
3: BryanRC - the rear lights looked "patched-on", otherwise it's a nice-looking compact hatch
5: Ascariss - tidy-looking sedan, although i wish the bowtie-badge is normal-sized
4: TheophilusChin - i'd love to see the SS version of this ute
5: Speedstick - it looks a bit weird seeing a Bentley with small wheels, but great chop
2: ACcartoons - the boxiness of the rear fender doesn't quite flow with the shoulder line
5: Porsche-Power - handsome wagon, love it
3: blackstripe - this could be badged as the DS
4: phantomex - the roof-rail on the opposite side is missing?
3: rpjn - interesting idea, but the color could be more daring

Ruthven - 3
Same as Speedstick, I think it would have looked better with the bottom air intake was still there.

BryanRC - 3
Great chop, the back looks a lot like the Altima

Ascariss - 5
Top marks! This is how Chevy should've done it.

TheophilusChin - 4
Not a big fan of the ute(?) style, but the work done here is flawless.

Speedstick - 5
I said this already but i'll say it again. AMAZING!

mucus - 4
Very nice, love the TL-like look.

ACcartoons - 2
The back is BIG and the green is

Porsche-Power - 4
Very nice. Love the E-class foglights.

blackstripe - 2
It's definately different!

phantomex - 3
Missing roofrail!

rpjn - 3
Good concept, good airbrushing, good job.

Ruthven - 4 - Conservative but clean. Liked to have seen the lower grill left in place and nicer wheels.
Kthing - 3 - Front looks very square and nose heavy. Headlights could have been sleeker.
BryanRC - 2 - I like the changes to the rear pillar and lights, weird cutlines up front.
Ascariss - 5 - Though I'm not a fan of the split grill it looks nice! Now its got some depth/dimension. Love the roofline. The car overall reminds me of Buick.
TheophilusChin - 5 - Clean chop. Front and rear lights have odd proportions, and front undertray looks like its glowing but points for being more adventurous than you normally are.
Speedstick - 3 - Clean chop, but the wheels look like Smarties. And the rear wheel looks smaller too. Nose looks tiny vs. greenhouse, may have looks better angled rearwards a bit more?
mucus - 4 - C-pillar looks odd, but the car looks awesome lowered and with the sleek new headlights. The TL bits work well! Liking the color, too.
ACcartoons - 2 - I kind f like the shape, though it looks a bit rear-heavy. Not your best in terms of quality - The color is a bit mad and the front wheel looks out of proportion.
Porsche-Power - 5 - Love it. AMG bits look good, top quality, like the background change too.
phantomex - 3 - Thats what I initially did with the headlights, too! Liked to have seen top of grill lined up with top of lights though. Something weird happening on the near-side of the roof, and the darkening of the edges of the image/vignetting a bit overdone.
rpjn - 3 - Not a fan of the looks but not too bad a chop. Nose seems to be leaning towards camera, and wheels don't fit - the appear to extend out past the side of the car, and the sidewalls appear to extend down beyond the tire into the ground.

I think I have encountered a problem with reverting to percentages so I will have to discuss the change with Ascariss before I make a move.

Using points though, the winner of the contest was Speedstick.
