I'm actually really impressed with your chops recently. The last couple I've seen have been real improvements and I hope you working on your skills and become great!

Assuming the rear end could be equally resolved, the Lincolnization of the ZDX actually works quite nicely. Of course they would have some dopey name like MKQ or somethimg...

What would people think about the idea of people posting WIP photos in the contest thread?

I know it might give some people the opportunity to copy elements they like but it would give people a chance to get some feedback on their work before they finally submitted it.

it's good to get feedback before submitting the final entry, and so is the opportunity for others to copy elements, but in the end, imho it's the execution of the chop that counts.
and maybe people can use it as "teaser" before submitting the real entry :grintoothless:

Uh oh - I hope it doesn't look like a Crossfire, because the ass end of mine does a little. These sleek SUVs don't leave a very handsome rear end for anything other than SUVs.

Mine is kinda a let down for me. I want to make the new NSX (kinda). I started out with the basic DLO and really liked it, but the front was too bluff to do much with I found. Plus I ran out of time. I was going to use the sheild, but left it off because I couldn't get it to look right that small. Kinda looks like a Lexus now. I but the fogs off that NSX concept (Advanced Sports Car) on there to recall that a bit. Probably should have removed the cutlines below the waist for the doors. They look really tall. Too late now though. Hope it's not too tall standing.

So I went for a super sports car - but ended up with this quasi CL coupe that kinda looks like a Nissan 370Z. So a kind of grand tourer.

I might be good, but I'm no ace. In fact I don't think that I won a PsC Championship. Not 100% sure though.

Still have a bit of brushing to do on the front grill and a few tweaks here and there but tomorrow morning I will be posting it I think.

The SUV/Coupe/Saloon/Convertible/EV you've all been waiting for!

All the modifications are brushed apart from:
- Rear lights (E-Coupe)
- Wheels (OceanDrive)
- Seats (E-Coupe)
- Mirror (E-Coupe)
- MB badge (E-Coupe)

One nice little detail I doubt some of you will spot is the repetition of the "EV" branding on the side of the car and also on the head rests.

After the mammoth day of chopping I'm going to go to bed.

As I mentioned a bit earlier, I'll be closing this at around 4pm (BST) tomorrow.

Iqo' - 3
Really like the front end treatment and the rims, but wish there was more work elsewhere.

S2 - 3
I like the changes in proportion. The grille has a couple places that need fixing though, and the foglights look a bit too undefined. Looks very nice though.

TheophilusChin - 5
Pretty much perfect! Looks very suited to the Seat brand. My only suggestion to the lessen the contrast of that reflection right before the rear wheel well. It almost looks like a change in curvature of the sheet metal. That's being really picky though.

DoMiNo - 5
Pretty much perfect again, and nicely original. Most everyone stuck with a Japanese brand, so it's nice to see someone a bit more adventurous. My only complaint is that the grey colour of the upper body seems to change a bit through the car. Kinda looks grey at either end but a bit more yellow in the middle. Also seems like maybe the gradient between the front of the car to the highlight should be a bit smoother (longer?). Above the front wheel well. Looks a bit too abrupt right now.

ACcartoons - 2
Like the look, and the monotone colour. Just the brushing could be cleaner, and watch the rims. The rear tire's sidewalls aren't even, and I find excessively huge rims sometimes make an image look photoshopped. I find it's better to leave a bit more meat to the sidewalls.

BryanRC - 3

I really like the look - reminds me of something between a TL and a TSX (that's a Canada only Civic based model). I was going to give it a 4, but there's a couple areas that need fixing. One is to watch your cropping - there's a couple jagged lines. It's usually better to crop something slightly inside just to be sure you don't get any kind of halo of what used to be around it. I can also see a couple areas that aren't blended smoothly (the window on the rear door for one). And the rear rim is pointing the wrong direction slightly. Wheels can be a pain like that though - it's hard to find ones facing the exact same direction.

blackstripe - 2
Doesn't look bad, but I personally don't like the look as much as stock (it almost looks too compressed to me). Nice attention to detail though - the photoshopping isn't visible. Not liking the placement of the fuel filler door - it's too low and I don't think there could physically be one there.

speedfreak_77 - 5
Perfect as always. Very clean, and a nice evolution of the design. Much prettier face and taillights. Only suggestion is that the wheels almost look too shiny for the picture. Although it looks like the pavement is wet now, so if the wheels were wet, maybe it works.

mucus - 3
Very nice - love the colour. Just not digging the roofline too much - too sharp or abrupt or something. Nice clean chop though.

phantomex - 4
Props for originality again. Looks really nice, but I find the windows look a bit fake. And I'm not sure on the placement of the rear door handle. I get what you were trying to do though but I find it looks unbalance (like the front should be raised - removed from the crease). This is what the Edge's face should look like when they redo it.

mario_128 - 1
I feel bad giving a one... Not too bad, but there isn't a huge amount different. I like the look - just needs a little smoothing in areas.

Porsche-Power - 5
It funny how when you remove the sheild, how much this looks like a Lexus. I found that too... Nice revisions to the styling.

MOORHOUSE - 5
Very nice! Not much of the original left though - haha. My only complaint is that it almost looks TOO airbrushed. I wish I could see more "imperfections" - more random detailing in the reflections so it looks like it's reflecting an outdoor environment. Or maybe showing a bit of the headlight elements. It need to be set into reality more. Because of this the setting seems kinda out of place too. Were it on an empty background (or in a studio) it would look better IMO.

Speedstick
07-30-2009, 05:57 PM
Hope that wasn't too many 5s.

Random thought - as I was walking to my car last night I was parked next to a new Mazda 6. It was amazing how many design features it shared with the ZDX - the DLO, the way the front wheel bulges mix into the side of the car. Even the headlight shape, kinda. I'm surprised no one made a Mazda now.

4 Iqo'
Nice front end treatment and I also really like what you've done with the wheels. Another great improvement and I can't wait to see your next!

3 S2
Nice job making it look a bit lower but the front end now looks too high. Wheels work well and with a bit more work the front LED's would look great.

4 TheophilusChin
A really nice chop that sticks to your theme of making a chop as realistic as possible. A brave colour swap but sadly I think the wheels are lit oddly.

5 DoMiNo
While the lighting on the front of the car does appear off I really like the concept. It works very well as a Lincoln and the wheels look fantastic.

4 ACcartoons
A very brave chop and I think some aspects are rally nice. Looks great as a little coupe and you've been very creative so your getting a nice four!

4 BryanRC
A nice chop! As before some rough edges but the idea is really a good one. The "rear wheel steering" is a transparent excuse though... :P

2 blackstripe
Not a very creative chop as far as I ca see? Looks to have the hybrid stance but idk if it's deliberate or not. Nice work, just nothing amazing.

Looks like it should be a BMW to me... Nice work with the front end, the lower vents look fantastic! The subtle cut around the side window is also very nice.

4 mucus
As you said, a niche too far? Maybe, but I really like the chop. The small cabin looks weird but cool and I really like what you've done to the colour.

4 Speedstick
A very weird stance on this one, but the work behind is very cool! Nice colour change and the work is very clean even if I'm not sold on the design.

4 phantomex
A really nice realistic chop but not entirely creative. Nice work with the wheels and the general roofline. Give it an interior and it would've been five.

2 mario_128
A nice idea but the rough patches are a shame. The new roofline is nice but the rear door handle too high? The lights are too saturated too.

4 Porsche-Power
I can't see that much done but the work is very nice. Looks very, very good as a Lexus but the lighting with the background seems inconsistent.

Just seen this is my 4500th post! :D

Iqo' -3- The lower bumper looks good, but i wish you had changed more on the car.

S2 -2- Sorry s2 but theres something odd about the car,it seems to be sitting weird.

TheophilusChin -5- It looks great, im surprised it works so well as a Seat.

DoMiNo -5- :shock2: wow

ACcartoons -3- It looks good but theres something odd about the door, looks good though.

blackstripe -4- That would make a good Acura hatch.

speedfreak_77 -4- Looks agressive, but the rear looks to rounded.

mucus -4- It looks good but i dont know what to make of it lol.

Speedstick -3- I would give you 4 if you had sorted out the rear of the car,It looks to rear heavy.

phantomex -5- Works realy well as a Ford, the headlights on the ZDX do look a bit 'kinetic' now that i think of it.

mario_128 -4- It looks better now that you've made it a proper suv.

Porsche-Power -5- wow, it looks fantastic, It would fit right in the Lexus range.

MOORHOUSE -5- Well done, it works realy well as a Mercedes-Benz.

nice chop. it looks like an SUV+sedan.

Speedstick - 3
reminds me of bmw z4 and dodge viper's long hood. but maybe u need to lower the bumpers.

u need to smoothen the edges.

Iqo' - 3 - Your work is getting much cleaner.
S2 - 3 - an improvement, to be sure, though not your cleanest work. The grille in itself makes it a better looking vehicle, and I actually like the stance.
TheophilusChin - 5 - Just another beautiful reason why Seat would be great for NA. This would be a terrific addition to the lineup. Excellent work.
ACcartoons - 3 - ambitious, if still kind of messy in spots.
BryanRC - 3 - Also ambitious, also a bit messy. Where do you see it fitting into the lineup?
blackstripe - 4 - Love the stance; this works terrific as a little hot hatch! Maybe a 1er rival?
speedfreak_77 - 5 - This is the perfect next-gen MDX.
mucus - 4 - Wacky bodystyle, but nice work!
Speedstick - 4 - The proportions are very old school. I'm impressed by the work, but the design is not my cup of tea :P
phantomex - 4 - Works unexpectedly well as a little ford CUV. Nice chop.
mario_128 - 2 - A little rough, and not much done. IMO you addressed one thing about the ZDX that I actually don't mind :P Still, good work.
Porsche-Power - 4 - Very clean chop, I was *this* close to doing the exact same thing! The front looks just a tad large, and I wish you'd cleaned up some of the cut lines at the back.
MOORHOUSE - 5 - Beautiful brushing; a grand vision and a real work of art. Some chunkier wheels would have been a better complement to this bodystyle, though, IMO.

Great work everyone!

Thanks for the comments guys! :)

here are mine:
3:Iqo' - nice clean chop, i love those LEDs
3:S2 - good transformation and acura should've gone for your grille in the 1st place. but the lower part of the front bumper is abit rough
4:TheophilusChin - another photo-realistic chop. very believable
5:DoMiNo - amazing work. my pick of the bunch
2:ACcartoons - i like the idea, but it's a bit messy at some areas
2:BryanRC - a bit rough round the edges, but the roof is definitely better executed than what i did for my entry
3:blackstripe - clean chop, looks like a concept car, but as Speedstick already commented, the fuel lid is awkwardly placed
5:speedfreak_77 - i like how you made your chop looks squeaky clean. although the doorhandle looks out of place imho
0:mucus - i can't comment on myself can i? oh well, i'm just glad to be back
4:Speedstick - i love the 'old-school' look that really reminds me of the 70's Zed. That's hot
3:phantomex - the lines of the ZDX works well as a Ford
2:mario_128 - i don't see any much difference from the original image
4:Porsche-Power - smooth & realistic chop
5:MOORHOUSE - great chop, but some of the brushed areas are quite obvious especially the nose section

 to all entries

Iqo' - 3 - Love the ASCC front fascia! Would have liked to see more changes though. Definitely a huge improvement in the quality of you chops.

S2 - 3 - Mostly clean chop with exception of the wonky grill. I like the S2000CR wheels, but I'm not a fan of the odd new proportions. The oddly high and thin nose seems to accentuate the long front overhang.

TheophilusChin - 4 - Looks like it was designed as a Seat! Their trademark chracter lines work well here. I'm sure Seat made nicer wheels though, and I think the lines flow better with the mirror mounted on the small black triangle thing rather than on the door itself.

DoMiNo - 5 - Love it, looks great as a Lincoln! Though the rear lamp looks oddly cut off, the new location of the fuel filer cap and new cutlines are interesting. Two tone paint works well, too, especially considering it is brown :P

ACcartoons - 3 - The roofline was well executed, but there are still some niggles with the quality. The new front seems to leave a huge expanse of blank metal, and the coup still looks very high-riding.

BryanRC - 3 - Interesting take, but still a bit messy. Rear wheel in particular seems to have really extreme toe-out?

speedfreak_77 - 5 - Absolutely love the new front fascia and character lines, very aggressive. The new nose though seemingly has odd proportions at first, actually looks sleeker and I imagine would be more intimidating in the rear view mirror. The rear looks a bit rounded and X6-esque though.

mucus - 4 - I like the interesting bodystyle - reminds me of those little SUVs with the convertible/soft-top rear ends. I can also imagine this with a mini pickup tray in the back haha. The way the wheels and tires fill the wheel wells complete the aggressive stance.

Speedstick - 3 - Quality is good, save for the oddly cut grill. I can see where this design was going - it had potential - but I feel that the odd proportions let it down. Apart from looking like it is mounted on stilts, the nose is oddly long and thin, while the greenhouse and rear end look disproportionately bulbous and heavy.

phantomex - 4 - Works surprisingly well as a Ford! I like the new SUV roofline, but the front fascia and traditional rear door handle seem a little awkward and the windows lack a little bit of a reflecting quality.

mario_128 - 2 - Roofline looks like someone couldn't decide whether it should be an SUV or coupe, and still a bit messy. Not sure what you were trying to achieve with the headlights.

Porsche-Power - 4 - Couldn't decide between 3 or a 4 so I decided to uh, give you the benefit of the doubt, considering I might be a bit biased against the RX. Quality is good. You've cleaned up the rear fender flare and executed the traditional door handle well. Apart from that, I have always hated the design of the Lexus. Here, it looks like the lights are a bit big, and the general application of the RX front end to this car gives it a heavy, droopy, melted appearance. Also, as I mentioned to Theophilus, I think the mirror works better in its original mounting point vs. the door panel.

MOORHOUSE - 5 - I love this one! In particular the flowing, pillarless side opening and the err, lack of roof. Its flawless, but perhaps would have liked to have seen a little bit more depth in the grill and headlights for realism. As DoMiNo mentioned, some chunkier wheels would probably have worked better here.

********************************

@DoMiNo: I had the Civic EG Hatch/Scirocco in mind when I chopped this, so basically a more coupe-ish version of cars on the 1er/Golf/Mini platforms, I guess? Difficult to grasp the scale when there is nothing to compare it to - perhaps I should have attempted to include another vehicle as comparison.

Iqo' 1 Needs more changes
S2 1 Looks very flat.
DoMiNo 5 Very good as usual.
TheophilusChin 4 The SEAT face suits this car, but it appears to be looking up somehow.
BryanRC 2 Good execution but the wheels are too small and it still looks like an SUV.
blackstripe 2 I get what you were trying to do but, I don't know, it needs something more.
speedfreak_77 4 Weird and curvy. Very nice.
mucus 3 Looks strange but some people might like it like that. I don't know.
Speedstick 3 The long, low bonnet and short, stubby tail remind me of the Dodge Viper. Unfortunately, it still has quite a large ground clearance.
phantomex 2 Sorry, but this is ugly. That's a shame becuase it's a very good chop.
mario_128 2 What is it meant to be exactly?
Porsche-Power 4 It's good, but not quite as good as some of your other recent chops.
bm88 5 Best chop of this competition, IMO. Good job.
