ios this smarts new concept

I really like that design, looks like a modern day Suzuki SJ410.
Very cool design, looks too rugged to be called "Crosstown" and should be something like "CrossTrek" but overall, I would love to see something like this make production.

Just like the ForTwo coupe and cabriolet we have today then! :P
I think this is a real car, not just a photoshop rendering. You guys agree?

I can see some retro touches, maybe Smart wanted to make a design that looked both classic and funky, maybe in an attempt to emulate the succes of the new MINI?..still. looks great i reckon and definately preffer it over its last car, the SmartForFour

According to autoweek it is an official concept car!

color reminds of the JEEP Rescue concept
I like the car though

This car is plainly wrong.
it's overdesigned, has the appearance of a scared frog, it has the doors of a Panda - not a bad thing in itself, but even FIAT stopped building that after 30 years - , and it just looks as cheap as a Jeep with much less space and much less sense.
I thought the Forfour or fourfour or whatever the name Mercedes gave "their Punto" - they couldn't give it a MB name just for the sheer shame of producing such a despicable car - was as low as Smart could go, but I was wrong.
And that yellow is horrible.
**ok, apologies, I have been reading too much Jeremy Clarkson - concept's still rubbish, though...**

Looks a lot less uhm.. queer (compared to other Smarts). Needs a new set of wheels/rims though. Front mounted engine I presume?

i like the design..for me,its a mini version of Hummer.
maybe im wrong but its cute!!

Just updated the pictures.
I love the way the screen folds up and down, very Jeep.
The centre console looks very similar to what we have seen on the spy shots of the next ForTwo.

I didnt know this was a Hybrid Concept.
Hot on the heels of the S-Class launch came the opposite extreme, the Smart Crosstown. The tiny Crosstown is based on the Smart FourTwo. So what's the difference? The Crosstwon is a hybrid. It uses a 23 kw electric motor and 61 hp gas engine coupled to a six speed automatic transmission. Another cool feature is the Crosstown's folding windshield: Open the hood and the windshield assembly swings forward into a small cubby.

Source: Autoweek

I didn't know either. I hope it would come to new ForTwo.

09-14-2005, 08:45 AM
I give a thumbs up for every car that experiments with hybrid power...but a Smart ForTwo?? Does it really need it? And given that Smart cars are over expencive as they are, does it really make sense to produce an even more expensive Hybrid one, when economy figures of the tiny ForTwo are already very good?

09-14-2005, 05:55 PM
Well, it would be more expensive if Hybird version comes to for two but now petrol prices have record highs in most countries and it would need to get this car if hybird arrives on fortwo. But it might be a problem with quality what current fortwo has but i hope this new for two could be much better. I think Smart wouldn't produce hybird for now if it's expensive.

Reaction to the styling:
Ha-haa!!!
I mean, come on. You'd embarrassed to be seen anywhere near one, wouldn't you?

You would be surprised at how different European customers are from Australian and American. Some markets are indeed conservative but other are just plain bonkers!

Wow this is the uglist concept car I've seen in a long time.... This design looks as if it has come from the Chery or Geely Lines in China... Where the smart fortwo is described as cute this is ridiculous.
What Are they trying to pass this off as??? A TOY JEEP!
This thing looks outdated, and I am sure will be underpowered for the weight...
My personal opinion... drop the funding on this piece of SH^T and bring out a redesign of the roadster!
I.E. the Toyota Yaris will SMOKE this thing in price quality, power, and looks (When the 140hp TRD edition comes out) thats roughly 1/2 the power and most likely 1.5 times the price
(if smart priceing continues)

it looks awful in the first pictures, but quite nice in the in-person ones. overall, thumbs up
