The hatch looks really good in the sketches, much better than the sedan

09-02-2005, 03:59 PM
That looks mad... i like it... those alloys remind me of Holdens alloys... cant wait to be the real thing<p>

09-02-2005, 06:18 PM
This looks good... I hope it goes into production with similar styling. They'd be stupid not to show this at SEMA as well. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/driver.gif" BORDER="0"><p>Maybe they can use the new 1.8l or 2.0l in a production sprts edition... <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/nixweiss.gif" BORDER="0">

This 3 doors model should be 25 centimeters shorter than the Sedan but the width is increased 5 cm also compared the the sedan model

09-11-2005, 10:06 AM
its awesome!!! hyundai is on a roll!!!

09-11-2005, 10:10 AM
i think this model share the same platform with new Kia Rio.<p>gunfire,yeah..its look nearly like Rover 25 especially the rear design and side body design.<p>btw, this is much better than current Accent.

09-11-2005, 10:56 AM
Well, if that is built, then sign me up. There is a first for everything and this is the first Hyundai that I really want. It is everything the GTI used to be if it holds true to Hyundai form; it will be cheap, and it seems like a car like this would handle like a MOFO. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/icondrool.gif" BORDER="0">

09-11-2005, 01:41 PM
To Mega...<p>I can't imagine the production version will look as nice as this at the beginning. Until the Tiburon moves up a class (when it becomes more powerful/expensive), I can't see Hyundai (HyundaiUSA more specifically) letting an Accent like this taking over any of the current Tiburon sales. It should be interesting to see what happens. No doubt that whichever engine (2.0l Turbo Theta (Beta doesn't make much sense at this point)) they put in it for Frankfurt will probably be in the car when Hyundai as a manufacturer gets back in WRC.<p>I'm new to CSS, but not to the Hyundai world.<p>Oh, and I got the picture from KiaCarMan.

09-11-2005, 03:37 PM
If everything stays the same, then this would be something. The current weight of the Accent is as little as 2,500 lbs, if it's anywhere close to that, this would be something really fun to drive, and a looker. <p>Thanks for the contribution SuperGLS. Welcome to CSS. Enjoy your stay <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>FYI - preliminary spec 2.0L turbo 200hp, debut in Frankfurt and will be on sale next year<BR><BR>

Thanks knicks.<p>With the recent news that Kia may sell the Rio (with the Alpha II) with an Eaton Supercharger making 200 HP, then it would only seem logical for Hyundai to offer the same package (rather than turbo'ing or supercharging a different engine). We shall see I suppose.

09-11-2005, 08:26 PM
could this be the first time ever that the actual car looks better than the drawing?

09-11-2005, 11:48 PM

Come on Hyundai, get this car to production... 260HP, wow, I'd be happy with 225! It'll be a no brainer over the new Honda Civic and VW Golf! What the heck is taking so long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

<IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/icondrool.gif" BORDER="0"> I have never even vaguely wanted a Hyundai before, and when this finally comes out I'm sure I won't want it then. But if they could bring this to production like it is now and have 260HP, I would give it a look. Without all that power or that great interior I won't go near it, so I'm sure it won't stand a chance in my book when it hits showrooms, but what a concept.

09-22-2005, 08:08 PM
a agree, it looks awesome. however, if the production version still keeps the same-shape headlights (and at least a similar looking lower air intake) then i'll probably want one anyway <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/bowdown.gif" BORDER="0">

This car is incredible! I will definitely buy one if it is produced. I read somewhere (probably on this forum) that it would have around 200hp and 4wd. I could be confusing hp and kW ratings (200hp = 274kW), but I'm not sure. I love my '04 Elantra GT, but long for a bit more power. I drove the Sonata V6, and while it's a great car, it did nothing to excite me. This Accent is the car I have been waiting for!!!

09-26-2005, 02:19 PM
I doubt it would have four-wheel-drive. Probably the person who thought so was thinking of a future competitor to the Imprezas and Lancers, though to me an Elantra would have made more sense. Even then, I can't imagine Hyundai putting a four-wheel-drive/AWD sytem in a compact car. <p>Hope they surprise me, though. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif" BORDER="0">

I sat in a WRX this past weekend, and it seems considerably smaller than the Elantra, even though specs indicate only a little bit smaller. <p>But, to tell you the truth, I'd rather not have the 4wd to keep costs (and weight) down - the whole reason I started buying Hyundais to begin with (I'm on my 3rd new Hyundai, and my wife had 1 Hyundai and now drives a Kia Sedona).

09-26-2005, 10:33 PM
Whereas I was assuming that it would have AWD, from what I'm told the target weight is around 2500 lbs. Aluminum hood and roof. Lots of weight saving materials. oh, BTW, it won't break $20,000 if produced.

Swallow Doretti
09-27-2005, 08:55 AM
2,500 lbs would be physically impossible if the car was AWD and kept at a $20K price point. The Accent sedan weighs in at roughly 2,400 lbs, and there's no way to NOT add weight the extra driveshaft and larger engine, even if you were having some compensation with things like an aluminum roof and hood.

09-27-2005, 05:38 PM
I highly doubt the AWD. I left that out of the post for some reason. You are totally right. Based on the target weight it's completely impossible to use AWD.

09-30-2005, 09:20 AM
Mega-<br> Would'nt Hyundai need awd so it can be used in WRC? If they also use aluminum suspension components(wishfull thinking...) and an all alloy 2.0 block then the 2500-2700 lbs won't be too far off. This car would be a terror like a 300 hp 323 GTX or 350 hp Talon/Eclipse from the factory!!!

10-01-2005, 04:37 AM
Possibly, I'm not totally familar with the WRC rules, however the Accent has been rally raced with AWD off the current version and we all know that one isn't AWD. On a side note, Hyundai needs to hurry this thing up., Dealers will be sold out of the current hatchback and will be without Accent until January.

10-01-2005, 08:01 AM
If Hundai mekes this car i can tell you we would sell every one they allocated, including one for myself!!!

10-04-2005, 11:35 PM
It qould be a monster straight out of the box that's for sure, especially keeping it under 20K.

10-09-2005, 02:10 AM
ugghhhh... 20K?!?!?! How many freakin 20K cars are already out there.... what would make this any more special than an srt-4 (230 hp, 21K), (I know it's dead but a Caliber srt-4 is coming) or a civic si (200hp, 20K), or Cooper s (168hp, 20K)? Hyundai needs to bring this car to market... I have my checkbook waiting... but if this thing is more than 16k Hyundai is going to have to resort to some serious dealer incentives. For 17k you can have a lovely Mazda 3 2.3 hatch with a gorgeous interior and even better looks to boot... what happens to a 17K accent next to that? It better have 200hp or be 15k, that's what happens. I love Hyundai but for 20k I'd rather have an Si after what I've read about them. How hard is it to tighten up the suspension and put around 180hp in this package? A base Accent is going to run around 12K.... the go fast goodies shouldn't add 5k and then some, The price point will make or break this car. AWD is not necessary and will not happen. This is not a good platform for that kind of hardware... it would end up being bespoke and wouldn't translate to any other Hyundai products. There's a better chance of the next tibby being AWD than anything else. Wishful thinking though.

10-09-2005, 02:16 AM
oh yeah, and don't say, "But I said keep it under 20K"... yeah well you may as well say keep it under 30k.... this car has to be 16k tops or it will get trashed for being overpriced. I can see Motor Trends cover now, in huge, bold letters: <br>A 19K HYUNDAI ACCENT?!?! Great publicity...

10-11-2005, 07:50 AM
I just hope they make 5 door version for the European market so we have something to sell over here... Sedan Accent really isnt made for Europe and it definetly wont sell in huge numbers. This would be a lot more like Getz, with nice exterior design (even if interior is the same, low price can justify it).

10-11-2005, 05:01 PM
People had a hard time with the cost of a SRT-4 until they saw the performance #'s. When I say under 20, I say it will absolutely no clue of how close it would come to that #. Assuming it would undercut all other is not a crazy thought.

Poised for even greater popularity, the new 2007 Accent three-door model (available in GS and SE trim) complements the all-new 2006 Accent GLS four-door, which will go on sale this November. "Consumers will be blown away by the amount of substance and standard safety features found in this new model."<p>The three-door Accent GS and SE overcome consumers' preconceived notions of compromised performance, comfort and safety in an economy car. Six airbags and standard antilock brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) provide segment-leading safety for all passengers. The class-leading 110-horsepower* (est.), 1.6-liter DOHC in-line four-cylinder engine with Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT), sport-tuned suspension and 16-inch alloy wheels with P205/45R16 tires (SE model) enhance the car's fun-to-drive character. The accessories will include a ground effects kit, cold air intake system, Kenwood MP3 satellite-ready radio, aluminum pedals and doorsills, iPOD holder, chrome exhaust tip and many others. Factory-installed personalization options include a 220-watt, AM/FM/6-disc CD changer premium audio system with six-speakers and Accent's first power sunroof.<p>Design<br> <br>Externally, the Accent GS and SE reflect Hyundai's sleek, confident design<br>direction, borrowing from the aerodynamic, clean look of the E3 concept car<br>unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. Up front, the vehicle features a bold bodycolor grille and aerodynamic halogen headlights. Bodycolored exterior mirrors and door handles complement the sporty styling. Sleek character lines continue to the rear of the vehicle. Accent GS's high-performance V-rated P205/45R16 tires and lightweight five-spoke aluminum wheels provide terrific handling and a big dose of street credibility. A long wheelbase and higher seating positions increase the spacious feeling of the interior. Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)?! Not to sound like an advertisement, but I thought only luxury cars had it. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/eek2.gif" BORDER="0"> I seriously didn't know it was going to be offered, let alone standard. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0">

EBD seems to be pretty much offered as standard with most new cars with ABS now. Its nothing particularly ground-breaking, but nice to see that hyundai is offering ABS as standard. Though in Europe it is mandatory anyway.

11-06-2005, 02:32 AM
EBD is most definately not stanard on US major market cars. The majority of ABS cars in the US don't have EBD. Hyundai has decided to raise the bar as far as standard satefy equpiment goes. Especialy in the sub 13K segment.

ok well can only comment on a UK persective. Seems to be coming more and more common even on entry level cars nowadays. I guess the US will follow suit soon enough.

You know, I've been buggin a bunch of people about this thing and I can't get a straight answer. I do know a turbo accent has been playing in the desert, but past that, I have nothing new to tell. I personally thin Hyundai's mising the boat if this isn't put into production.

05-26-2006, 11:25 AM
Yes, I ended up buying an STi since this was not going anywhere, I'd love to have one though!!

05-26-2006, 03:41 PM
well, it's not like an STI is a bad purchase. The "I" is capitalized these days. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/beigesmilewinkgrin.gif" BORDER="0">

Mega, is there any news on the body kit they introduced the Accent 3dr with or the release date on the 3dr? Thanks in advance.<p>...there should be like an "Ask Mega" thread some where...

05-28-2006, 09:36 AM
I have seen pics of the 3dr. with a few different ground effects and body stuff. At last word there are suppposed to be 50 custom items for the Accent. I don't know if there is more than one body kit. I do know production started about a month ago. No release date that I have heard, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a few show up here before then end of June.

Although this has nothing to do with the Accent SR but I was surfing at the Hyundai Canada website and found the new Accent Hatchback to be in their lineup. It was so soon, I didn't expect it until the ads on TV came on. <br>Here's the link:<br><A HREF="http://www.hyundaicanada.com/HYUNDAI/Pages/Documents/type1/DocumentAction.aspx?Dispatch=Display&DocumentID=72&LanguageID=en" TARGET="_blank">http://www.hyundaicanada.com/H...ID=en</A> or just go to hyundaicanada.com and find the link<p>The basic three-door Accent is priced at $14 840 Canadian with Delivery and Destination and a Manual tranny. The three door Accent Premium with Automatic transmission goes as high as $18 990 Canadian with Delivery and Destination but that's not expensive for a compact car model.

06-01-2006, 04:51 PM
The three door should hit in the states late June, early July. Depending on how the tuner market takes to them should help Hyundai decide on the SR. If not that, at least if the sales are substantial enuogh to take the plunge and build the evil little bastard.

We have three allocated. Only thing I can tell is that they are pkg 2...I assume they are base models with A\C

looks real sporty. it should get an award for the miniture size.<p>

07-24-2006, 09:15 AM
this thing obviously was crafted at california and not somewhere in Seoul... <p>Very nice... All the lines make sense... everything comes together well.

07-27-2006, 09:10 AM
Nope it was penned by Hyundais European Design Studio in Russelsheim, Germany.

well, Krafcik has been heard talking about Hyundai's prvoen ability to turbo charge cars (reference to rally cars). There is a turbo in the works. Whether it ends up in a Tib, Accent, or Elantra, one is coming. Personally, I'd like to see all three get one.
