To kick off a new season I thought we'd have a collection of four popular saloon cars.

Let me know if the images work as I've been having some problems with Dropbox.

I vote Superb. The 75 is dead, the Arnage is dying, and the BMW is boring.

Rover for me! IMO it's the most intresting choice, and I think it's got real potential.

Hi Moorhouse, I've been visiting this forum for a few years now till I personally met Theophilus, decided to register and join the community. Not a photochopper myself, but one that might qualify for 2 cents. Perhaps half a cent.

Anyway, I've notice its been a problem since the jurassic years of this forum that photos posted for selections couldn't be viewed. May I know if its issues with hosts, or the server where this site resides on? Picasa, Photobucket etc.... those doesn't work? Even Flickr?

To not deviate. I vote for Superb, as its the only one listed here that's badly designed. Please don't pass me off as a brand snobber, as the previous Superb looks Superb. This one looks uninspired, not sure what design elements to work on, and not too much consideration was put into the final design of this otherwise excellent car. Seriously needs a good facejob to reflect this car's stature.

The current one is as if some China manufacturer, after copying some VW product, decided to add a bit of here and there just for the sake of hoping not to look entirely cloned.

Skoda Superb please.

Contest will be open until Sunday.

Just a couple of things to keep in mind:
1 Tag Make sure your name is clearly visible on the chop (as it will make voting easier).
2 Size I know its not 1600x1200 but if it's kept the same voting will be easier to read.

In-between the two "" you must post the URL of your uploaded image (same URL in both sets of "")

I have to put it in an image as otherwise it won't show on the board.

I don't have much time this week, so I basically tried to fix the areas I didn't like. Kinda boring though...

<a href=""http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/5980/skodasuperbsm.jpg""<img src="http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/5980/skodasuperbsm.jpg"width="600"/></a>

Changes:

- headlights mirror the fogs
- incorporated the headlight washer units into the headlight
- added some surface detail so the inset headlight flows out of the side of the grille
- defined the curve from the grille, under the headlight and over the front wheel arches into the bodyside
- rounded off the edges of the grille/squared up the sides. Didn't like the chamfered edges.
- tried to smooth out the roofline, and in doing so enlongated the greenhouse. I find the shape of the rear windows awkward. Also refined the rear door cutline so it flows up into the rear window, and cleaned up the awkward chrome surround.

You have to use the IMG tags for the image ot be displayed.

Please be advised, there is a mistake in this code:

Ben was missing a vital close tag in his code, this is why the images were not showing up for me, ie error in the html code. notice after the "a href" the tag is close using > which was missing in ben's original code.

it might be an internet explorer problem, since the image shows up on firefox. so please be advised, please use this code for posting images:

Just to talk you through how voting will go for the remainder of the year:

You will give every chop a rating between one and five based on its creativity and quality.

Please also give some reasoning as to what you liked or disliked about the chop. It has no effect, but helps the artist.

If you entered a chop into the contest and you have voted, I will add a further three points to your tally.

I'll check back in a while to make your all doing it right so don't worry, and vote! :)

BryanRC: 2

Needs more time spent on it and it could be good.

Phantomex: 4

Very good, but I know you can do better. The rear looks somehow small.

Speedstick: 4

Very good, but you could've been a bit more daring.

Blackstripe: 4

Great for the sheer LOL factor.

SpeedFreak: 4

A 5-door hatch like mine. I'm a bit jealous cause yours is better.

Baji: 5

Superb! (lol)

S2: 4

Your right, this is how the Superb should have looked.

TC: 4

Very good, but an estate? Come on...

Porsche-Power: 4

With a few changes, it would be great! The grill slopes to the side a bit.

Iqbal: 4

Good, but why does it look so narrow?

O NOES!

You will give every chop a rating between one and five based on its creativity and quality.

What I was meaning was that you would give one score for the chop, not two individual scores for creativity and quality.

I am glad I don't have to add all those numbers up though...

Speedstick

BryanRC: 2
Some funkiness in the reflection of the windows and the angle of the pillars, but it's pretty good. Lower marks for creativity as there's not much changed other than adding the wagon. It's hard trying to grade the quality comparitively...

Phantomex: 4
I love the look of it, but a few little areas bring it down from a 5 in quality. One is the headlights - you can see extra cloned lenses in there - it looks weird. The second is that the enlarged taillight lenses look painted on. And the backside of the windshield pillar looks like it's at an odd angle.

AC Cartoon: 2
You just need to work on some of your blending a bit. I like the idea though.

Blackstripe: 3
The proportions are kinda wonky, so the quality is scored lower. But unique attempt!

SpeedFreak: 5
Looks awesome! Top quality. Very well done and I like the modified detail work.

Baji: 4
Gave it a 4 for some slight lumpiness in the C-pillar and around the fog lights, but very good.

S2: 4
Top quality again, and it's how it should have looked indeed. I love the roofline. I gave it a 4 as it just isn't as extreme as I might have wished.

Theophilus Chin: 4
Top quality again, but it's lacking in changes up front for me to give it more on the creative scale. I guess I was hoping for more?

Porsche-Power: 5
Hmmm... It's very well done. No real faults with the work you did. But I found the front looks a bit tall (like the headlights are set too high and the grille is too large). It's purely aesthetic. Was going to give it a 4 for those reasons, but couldn't do it.

Iqbal: 3
Looks cool, but there's some trouble spots in behind the B pillar and around the rear wheel well. I like how it looks narrower - it looks more beefy and truck-ish.

Bryan RC - 2
Slightly wonky looking roof-line and I would've liked to have seen some more modifications on the rest of the car.

phantomex - 4
Quite a clean little convertible. The door lines don't seem to line up though? Nice colouring effect IMO.

Baji_192 - 4
A few little rough patches but very creative! Your new front end looks really good and you've made a good attempt at re-colouring it.

ACcartoons - 3
Looks like Skoda's answer to the Opel Signum! Quite a cool concept but there are a few areas that look a bit rough.

Speedstick - 4
Nice clean work but I wish you'd been braver with the windowline. Wish you'd posted a bigger version too... :P

blackstripe - 4
Very, very different and very generally good clean work! Main criticism would be the gap between light and wheel arch should be bigger.

speedfreak_77 - 5
I don't think you really need much constructive criticism! :P Only part I dislike is the top edge of the headlight, it should be perfectly straight.

S2 - 3
Good clean work, but I would've expected a bit more. The car looks much bigger and I think quite like a newer Alfa Romeo 169.

TheophilusChin - 5
The quality of this chop alone gets the 5. Looks exactly like you would imagine the car. Bad point? Repeated pattern on the pillars. But that's pretty minor...

Porsche-Power - 5
A lot of the car has changed so you get good marks for creativity and quality! The roof-line alone makes the car a million times better. Nice BG swap too.

Iqo' - 3
Not sure about the car in reality but your chop is nice. Doorline is nice but I would've preferred to see it jacked up a bit. Welcome to CSS too! :)

BryanRC - 2
Roofline extends oddly rearward

Phantomex - 3
Convertible is oddly proportioned, wheels look small. Would perhaps work better with a smaller passenger area.

ACCartoons - 3
Quite nice apart from the rough areas around the rear window and pillar. I like the headlights.

Baji192 - 3
Again a little rough around the rear but I love the front.

Speedstick - 4
High quality chop - interesting take, I like the subtle change to the roofline.

Speedfreak_77 - 5
Great chop, love the details like the shading and character line. It would be nice for the top of the lights to be straight.

S2 - 5
Again, love the details. Whole car looks sleeker.

TheophilusChin - 4
Great chop but would have liked to see a bit more creativity.

Porsche-Power - 5
Great chop, especially the new roofline and the ported over fascia. If I'm being picky I don't like a couple details with the grill and the lower edge of the headlights, but that is a problem with Chevrolets styling not the chop!

IQBAL - 4
Quite like the proportions, though perhaps could have a longer tray. I like the shape of the roofline but it is a bit rough, mostly the small window.

phantomex

Bryan RC - 3
Nice wagon conversion. I think the rear door window applique could use some work.

Baji_192 - 3
Looks slightly sleeker. I like that aspect. The top rear of the car looks rushed. The lower bottom grille is missing something.

ACcartoons - 3
A few blurry spots. But rear window chrome needs some more time to clean up.

Speedstick - 4
Nice & clean work. I like the minor tweaks. Looks slightly better than the original.

blackstripe - 3
Interesting route you went with this one. Looks slightly narrow & the front lights to wheel well should look better. Rear window sticks out too much. Would look better without that bump.

speedfreak_77 - 5
Clean work as usual. Maybe the lines around the headlight is too strong.

S2 - 4
Clean work as well. Maybe the roofline/windows looks very very slightly flattened . Not bad though.

TheophilusChin - 5
Clean work. Always clean designs. Not sure about the 2nd applique on the rear door. Maybe chrome would've worked?

Porsche-Power - 5
I like the change into Chevrolet. I like the choice or wheel swap. Good job on background.

Iqo' - 3
Good ideas to begin with. The roof line could flow better and be smoother. Front wheel well is too light. Maybe the whole vehicle needs to be "streched" out slightly.

Baji192
06-29-2009, 12:57 AM
Bryan RC - 2
I see an improvement with every chop your're doing. very good job. My criticisms are that the roofline doesn't look quite right. it starts sloping down far too early.

phantomex - 3
Nice looking convertible. The interior looks slightly out of proportion with the exterior though. And i've noticed that the side skirt is lower than both the front and rear bumper. but all in all, solid effort.

ACcartoons - 3
I kinda like this concept. Like i said with Bryan RC, your chops are improving every time. Just work on your blending and try and make your edges smoother because atm they seem to be a bit jagged. Well done though.

Speedstick - 3
I don't really know what to say. Quality of the chop is very good, but the changes are really quite hard to tell. I would've liked to see a little more daringness.

blackstripe - 3
Quite a creative concept. Quality of your chop is also "Superb" :-P. But somehow the proportions look a bit wrong. The front seems too short and it doesn't seem wide enough.

speedfreak_77 - 5
speedfreak, i don't know what to say. it would be probable that you'll get a 5 from me every time for quality. I really like this chop. It has a lot of BMW 1 series as well as VW Golf in it. And i must mention one thing - i love your attention to detail. i've noticed in your past chops that every chop you have done, there are the major changes that most people recognise, and then the smaller subtle changes like body lines, bumpers, side skirts etc that people may not have immediately recognised. Very well executed every time. :-D you have to show me how to do such good colouring as well, because thats one of my biggest weaknesses.

S2 - 3
Like what i said with Speedstick, a little more daringness would have been preferred. I can't fault your chopping skills though. very clean.

TheophilusChin - 4
I hope its fair to say that i think you have the best photoshopping skills here. I didn't give you full points though, because i think with your skill, this chop just seemed far too easy for you, and it lacked a little bit of creativity. Every chop you do exceptional, quality wise, so i'd like to see you step it up a little with creativity and make your chops a little more daring, even if chop quality were to suffer a little.

Porsche-Power - 5
My favourite chop of this contest. I just love everything about it - the wheels, the roofline, the headlights. The only thing i didn't like was the grille. :-P thats probalby because im from australia and would have rather seen a holden badge and grille on it. but anyway very nice work.

Iqo' - 4
Welcome to CSS. Very nice chop for your first attempt. Contrary to what others have said about the car probably not working in reality, i think it'll work. just think Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon Utes - both car based, and quite popular here in australia. I gave you this score based on creativity, as in my eyes, i really liked the concept and with a little more photoshopping, it would have looked great. For your future chops, just be sure to watch the proportions a little more closely.

------------------------
just on a different note, i can't see my chop in Moorhouse's post with the other chops.

and also i like this voting style over previous system even though its a little more time consuming, as it gives everyone a chance to get points, plus we get specific constructive criticism on where we can improve.

So we aren't doing the creativity/quality thing?

I don't find this scoring all that different than before, as I always factored in creativity and quality anyway. Maybe if it was 1-3 for creativity and quality for a total of 6.

It is nice to rate everyone though.

Nice Idea, looks kind of Nissan Stagea (with a little boxy-ish which is good for wagon-very spacious inside) but there are some detail work that you need to refine (C-Pillar, and smoother roofline).

Phantomex - 3
I like your idea. An Open-Top Superb, You've got simpler headlights, good proportion (you've changed door length) and nice surfacing idea. Just my opininon, you can do better actually with more attention for coloring and refine the shape.

Baji192 - 4
I really like your idea and yes, as you said on your post, very A5 Sportback. Cool!Looks very sporty. My suggestion, try to make more gradation for the body especially when you are using white body color, make sure it doesn't look flat.

AC Cartoons - 1
Nice try. You need to pay attention for each parts (outline, chrome lining, etc) to show a good impression of your idea.

Speedstick - 3
Good Quality, and some subtle changes make it looks difference.

Blackstripe - 4
Your idea is my favourite actually. Very creative! With this proportion (Shorter front overhang and nice roofline idea). This idea reminds me to my favourite car (an Audi A2).
But as Baji192 said, it looks a little off. Some perspective check is needed for this new proportion.

S2 - 5
I really like this kind of subtle changes, It looks new and way better than the original. Well done S2!

Theophilus Chin - 4
Very Nice Quality as usual. It's a wagon version of Skoda Superb. But somehow it looks kind of old Skoda Wagon.

Porsche-Power - 4
Another good idea for Chevy. looks good.

Iqo - 2
I like your Ute idea. As Moorhouse said, you need to jack up the ride height. and to me your front wheels seems to wide (doesn't looks right).

Good, You know that it will look something like that, however the back side window lacks reflection..

Phantomex - 3
Nice Idea, but not the best quality Photoshop.

Baji192 - 3
Odd Idea but an ok idea... Bad quality shop at the back of the car though

AC Cartoons - 2
Again, an Odd idea but ok... Lacks quality but still good.

Speedstick - 3
Good quality but looks like a Saab 95 with those glasses!

Blackstripe - 3
Very interesting idea, but poor quality shopping.

speedfreak_77 - 5
Excellent shop, very good quality and makes a good rival to the Subaru in VRS form!

Theophilus Chin - 4
No complaints. Just predictable.

Porsche-Power - 4
Odd idea, but works well. Just ashame about the front top grille not matching.

Iqo - 3
Cute idea, but the rear window just doesn't fit.

I changed my original post to save having to redo the whole thing. Just look at the bottom of page 1.

Going to add up all those points now.

This might take a bit longer than normal as there are so many points to get together.
