In this article from Autoweek, they mention the 4-door Wrangler seperately. Meaning...they will have an entry level 4 door (Patriot) and the more expensive and capable Wrangler 4 door.
http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102900

Confusing... This patriot and a 4 door wrangler could not be very different in size. And it appears they will both be designed for hard core offroading and have rugged design. So why both? This will make 6 different 4 door suv's and a 2 door wrangler for jeep. seems a little crowded.

Monkey

The 4 door Wrangler will be larger, and will still be intended as a true off-roader. The Patriot is a FWD based AWD rally type vehicle, with a slightly beefier setup. The Liberty is the closest to size for the 4 door Wrangler, and according to the article, they are doing this to attract more males to purchasing the Wrangler. I bet DCX realized they lost a core market when they came out with the Liberty, even though it might sell better than the Cherokee. I myself own a Wrangler, and would not buy a Liberty, because of capabilities and appearance. A 4 door Wrangler is top on my list of possible next car purchases.

The patriot concept looks very nice and it looks like the classic cherokee but the second version of compass would ruined it's looks for the first concept version which is bad but we'll see when it come out in metal.

The patriot looks excelent, but the compass looks hideous. Its like they slapped a jeep grille on a dodge caliber, the compass concept looked a lot better.

I actually kinda like the Compass. I hope its more SUV like than Matrix/Vibe like. I don't go off-road so this would get some attention from people like me.... The original concept was wicked for sure though.
Hope it has decent street performance.

So the other question I have about these are why so many off of one platform? They are making the Caliber, which, as taskbearer says is awfully similar to the Compass. Then there is the Patriot, which is a bit different. But then what is left in the market for the PT Cruiser? The PT now was the high roof hatch version of the Dodge Neon. Now that the Caliber is a higher roof hatch, and the Compass is similar, what else can they do to differentiate it?

Taskbearer is right. . .the Compass is hideous; in fact it is a compass without any sense of direction. . .it cannot turn in a more pleasant design direction, veering off of Good Design Highway, way, waaaaay off road, taking the backroads straight into Uglyville.
Give us the Dakar, we will buy.

I read on Autoblog.com that the Compass concept's full name is the "Compass Rallye", which suggests that this car is just proposition of vehicle that Jeep would enter into the WRC. Also, both vehicles share a platform with the forthcoming Dodge Caliber. If I were to guess, I would guess that the Compass Rallye is a thinly disguised version of the production Jeep Compass. It does look similar to the spy shots we have been seeing...
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000350053673/

piokor06 is right I have info saying that both the compass and patriot is based off the Caliber platform.. Jeep is marketing both cars as a on road alternative to the liberty... however they will have off road capability, they most likely not be trail rated. Jeep will be marketing the patriot to traditionalists while the compass will be for younger markets with quote by car and driver: "a more Matrix and Vibe feel" I.E. think sportyish ride with an cute ute that will probably bottom out while off road

The 4 door Wrangler that IS coming will be more similar to the Dakar than the Liberty. The Liberty has IFS and the Dakar was based on a stretched Wrangler platform.
The one interview quoted that the Liberty and 4 door Wrangler will both exist at the same time, for different demographics.

The Patriot looks fantastic!!! I'm loving that one. The Compass doesn't look THAT bad -- it just doesn't live up to the original concept by that name. With a little tweaking in the ride height and front end, it'll do alright.

They both look pretty good, but man, is there going to be some overcrowding in Jeep showrooms!! If every proposed new model makes it to production Jeep will have 5 different small/compact SUV/crossovers at 180 inches in length or shorter. With the Dodge version of the Liberty (Nitro?), that makes it six.
1) Wrangler
2) Wrangler 4-door
3) Liberty
4) Compass
5) Patriot
6) Nitro

You've got the sporty ones (Compass, Grand Cherokee SRT8), rugged (Wrangler set, Patriot), and luxurious (Commander, Liberty and regular Grand cherokee). If you look at it that way, they don't really overlap too much, because each Jeep will offer different things for different people. I'd be interested to see what other models they may have up their sleeves.

It still seems a little excessive, though........... and odd. For instance, if DCX wanted to have a low-priced, FWD, car-based SUV/crossover to compete with CRVs and Rav4s, why didn't they develop one for Dodge? Instead, they make the highly controversial decision to give not one, but TWO, small, FWD, road-oriented SUVs to Jeep, while Dodge gets a real, rugged, Liberty-based SUV.

at 1st i thought the compass would look like the caliber but im surprised it only looks a little bit like it. the compass looks very good and to me it could look like the basis for the 4dr wrangler. dcx is like the only compnay that makes their cars look almost exactly like their sketches. which is a good thing.

I would guess that the 4 door Wrangler will be larger, more like the Hummer H3 in size. The Patriot is based on the Caliber/Compass/Evo platform, so a better comparison would be to the Subaru Forrester. Those are of course, my opinions based on photos.

The compass 5-door looks nice, but now some cars in many brands is starting to make rear side doors handles look like Alfa Romeo's but i love it on some other brand cars which is this and Honda Civic.
The Patriot looks alot like Commander but it has an original and nicer image for jeep.

The Compass looks like a baby SRT Grand Cherokee and the Patriot looks like a a reincarnated Cherokee built for modern times... I don't know which one I like more or which one makes more sense.
Compass vs RAV4, CR-V, Escape
Patriot vs ?
Wrangler 4dr vs Xterra, FJ Cruiser
Liberty vs ?
I think they should lose the Liberty and only produce a small amount of the Patriot or Compass depending on how the market takes them...
oversteer, I definately agree with you on the 4cyl thing. they both look excellent. i've always liked the way jeeps look, i dunno why. i'm glad to see neither of these cars feature chrysler's hideous truck door handles that they have on the grand cherokee and the ram. i especially like how the patriot looks like a shrunken commander, it really fixes that car's proportion problems (otherwise IMO the commander is a nice-looking car). overall, great job DCX

What is the plan for the Liberty, anyone know? It sure seems to be squeezed out in the next coming phase of vehicles from DCX.
The Nitro from Dodge, which is based on a stretched Liberty, looks better and is bigger.
The next Wrangler is coming in a four door for hard core off road, and now the Patriot is coming with a roughly Liberty sized, and perhaps better looking package (and is said to be Trail Rated, although car based).
It would seem to me there is no place for the Liberty once all these concepts make production.
