According to "auto, motor und sport", Maybach will show a new car, the "Exelero". It's a coupe with a 700 hp V12 that will go 350 km/h. I wonder how much SLR is in this car. The proportions and the doors look very similar to it. By the way, aren't these the same rims as on the Vision SLR?
What I don't like about this concept is the front area. The grille and the headlights don't suit to the rest of the car.

completely different from Maybach sedan.. this one looks more sleeky and weird design.. but honestly,i love the rear end design :D

This is, at least they say so, not a concept from Maybach to preview any future car to come, but a coupe based on a maybach 57 chassis to commemorate a test car from the 1930s, the Maybach sw38.
The car was ordered by Fulda (german tyres manufacturer) to celebrate the introduction of its high performance tyre Fulda Exelero. It was built by Maybach and designed by Fredrik Burchardt, a student of automotive design at Pforzheim College for design/germany.
Anyone who may think this is just an SLR, please remember the car is 5890 x 2140 x 1390 mm! That's one huge automobile that reminds me of the cadillac somewhat 16 concept..
Matt

It looks like something a flamboyant Batman would drive.
Seeing the classic coupe, it makes a bit more sense. I think it would look MUCH better and cleaner in front of the headlights were inside those air intakes flanking the grille (tie in with the original better too). Side glass would have looked a lot better if it looked more like the original car too. The concepts 3/4 windows look to big. Looks like a sedan almost.
It looks big and ungainly, and almost boring and done already for such an excessive design. Reminds me a lot of the Jag Feuore (sp?) concepts. The vertical grille has been done to death people. It's not original anymore.

Speedstick
05-11-2005, 12:20 PM
Note: The predecessor had a horizontal grille. So why is it's modern version have a vertical one?

Speedstick
05-11-2005, 12:21 PM
Another note: It's looks CHINESE. Which most offen is not a good thing, unless the hired an Italian firm to design it.

Santeno
05-11-2005, 01:21 PM
well, based on what mattthebad said on the previous page, it sounds like this is nothing more than a factory made special order concept, and not a preview of a production model. Personally I can't imagine any vehicle carrying the Maybach logo having such "unrestrained" styling. Original and distinct yes, but this is just a bit to wild for a brand whose costumers tend to be male, old, and conservative.

First off, Santeno is correct. This is nothing more than a factory one-off, but in this case it was built to serve as a testing vehicle for new tire technology.

Quote »

Stuttgart/Berlin, May 11, 2005
The Maybach high-performance show car "Exelero" was unveiled to the world for the first time this afternoon in the Tempodrom in Berlin. The 700-hp two-seater with a V-12 biturbo engine is a unique custom model produced for Fulda Reifenwerke, which is using the Maybach Exelero as a reference vehicle for a newly developed generation of wide tyres. The German manufacturer of luxury cars built the unique model as a modern interpretation of its legendary streamlined sports car from the 1930s, thereby forging a link with the historical predecessor, which at that time was likewise based on a powerful Maybach automobile (SW 38) and used by Fulda for tyre tests.
The Exelero embodies the highest expression to date of the Maybach individualisation strategy of offering specific custom solutions on request. In initial tests on the high-speed track in Nardo (Italy), the unique vehicle reached a top speed of 351.45 km/h (FIA*-standard unit of measurement). Developers at Maybach designed the custom model with the participation of students from Pforzheim College. The Exelero was built by the prototype specialists at Stola in Turin (Italy). There are no plans to produce the model in series.

Source: DCX

This previews NOTHING, and is just an exercise for some Mercedes designers and design students.

I don't see really any meaningful resemblance in any of those cars put up that this "copied", but I do believe that the guys a Mercedes just gave up when it came time to do the interior. Compared to the exterior it is very boring and simple, it looks like any modern Mercedes, not some weird retro-futuristic rich person machine like the exterior suggests.

Plus, people around here don't really like AutoLies too much....especially 001.
I think the next big story is that 001 is going to pretend to be Santa, but in an evil FIRST EXCLUSIVE way.
Gorgeous concept car though, to keep this on topic and all...
