It might make it into production. But it will probably lose its master piece - the headlights, which are made from LED, and also are featured on the new Allroad Quattro... But the headlights rule..Looks like Audi is thinking of going over Mercedes and BMW...

This car(idea/size.. large coupe) will reach production as the Audi A7. its atleast 2-3 years out.
A5 and A7 will happen eventually... Coupes based on the A4 and A6, totally different cars though.

I meant new BMW's like 2004 X5, or 5 series... I've seen so many of them without angel eyes
don't know why, maybe they are not allowed in US?

Well I also heard that it will go on sale but in a different version.. Some changes will be made to it, LED lights will be changed to normal lights, exterior design will face a change too, minor interior design, probably the engine. But it may go on sale in 2007/2008, and it may never go on sale. I don't know exactly.. Will tell you, if find out more.

so what's the deal with LED headlights in the US. who said they were illegal? Can somone point us to a source that explains why that's the case? or is it that they simply have not been approved for that use yet?
IMO it makes sense to use LED's. they are smaller, use less power, are longer lived, allow for better fehicle front crash design. why not use them?

Obviously LED are a lot brighter than the bi-xenon, xenon, or normal lights..
But I think they will be seen on the road soon, as more and more car manufacturers are installing LED on their concepts.

LEDS are used on tail lamps, so im guess ing in the next few years, LEDS will sit next to xenons then by themselves

Comrade

The A8 W12 has LEDs (5 litttle bulbs) and xenons sitting next to each other. The LED uses 10 Watts while other uses 30 times more. I'm not sure the US version has them, but it probably does...

LED's are coming but there are some regulatory concerns still (especially here in the States)
LED's burn very bright, putting out a white almost blue-ish color that illuminates everything CLOSE-UP very well. However, the longer the distance, the less effective traditional LED's have been (generally). For example, try one of those LED headlamps (flashlight/torch you strap to your head): They're great up close but you can't see much beyond 20 feet. That's changed with some newer designs and manufacturers are planning to use different LED's (long distance, short distance, corners, etc.) for each different lighting condition. They can do this because they last a loooong time and don't use much power at all.
Here's a little something on it (and yes, the Audi A8 was the first to put them into production!)
http://www.electronicsweekly.com/Article4455.htm

I took this pic at on of the car shows lately. This is a close up pic of the LED light from Allroad Quattro Concept, the same LED design that is used on Nuvolari..This is what I wanna see in the next Audi car, these headlights look much better in real life that on the picture.

I'm not sure exactly what the regulation is, but I know the NHTSA has a limit on the number of Bulbs which can be used in a car's headlamps for various purposes. This regulation I believe is set at something like 4 bulbs for forward lamps, two for fog lamps, three for turn signals, five for high beams, and 8 total bulbs maximum. Don't quote me on it seing as the Kia Amanti has 10 LED bulbs for its turn signal in front, and the Infiniti Q45 has 7 Projector lenses for its standard headlights. I believe there may be a fee paid by the company on a per-car-sold percentage for any car which does not adhere to the rule.
A lot if that is speculative, but basically, yes, there is regulation making it hard for LEDs to be efficient in regular use as everyday headlamps.
