In the latest episode of lets show to the world how important Holden is to Wheels Magazine, the car of the year has been revealed. And Shock surprise, the FG Falcon is not in the finalists "Because it doesn't have rear map holders".

Holden has stated that due to recent marketing spends, extra staff will be laid off the Elizabeth plant. Meanwhile, The 22nd wheels Magazine cover in 24 months that has a Holden as a main feature was the cover to the mag. The winner nowhere to be seen on the cover. Meanwhile, Street Machine Commodores magazine has complained to wheels magazine for not having sufficient Holden content, and Holden has readjusted accordingly. Next month's issue to include a comprehensive review about why the VE is the best car ever made, because the 2 Special edition VE issues didn't cover it well enough.

And the winner is (Considering tehre was no Holden new releases this year)...

Honda Accord Euro.

I have every issue since 2002, but that's it. Not buying it anymore. Not because the Accord won or because the Falcon didn't, because they didn't pick the right, or the best car. You hit the nail on the head Fresa. This once presigious award (gee even that's an overstatement) is now tarnished by Holdens massive marketing push. They can say all they want it does not effect the outcome, but it does.

They made a massive deal because the falcon did not have door grips, yet neither do most of the Commodores that are sold, and in 2006 they made ZERO mention of this. They didn't want to name the Falcon the winner because

a) Holden paid them not to
b) If they did, the Holden nuts would cancel their subscribtion (more Holden fans here than Ford)
c) They didn't want to be called a diansaur magazine, giving the award to a 'fuel guzzler'

No more Motor, no more Wheels, I'll stick to Top Gear UK. I hope Wheels loose the plot and go bankrupt...

I't really pisses me off to hear, and see, that Wheels magazine is still so crap and "corrupt" as when i left Australia in 2000. The Accord might be a good car but given the magazine's rep i don't even care much about their awards.

Btw the millionth Torana concept CG on the cover looks kinda sad and droopy...sad as in "i don't like it". But as Fresa said i guess they just HAD to have a Holden on its cover

Wheels COTY sounds a bit like European COTY... where they have favouritism towards Fiat.

it would be great if we had a magazine and coty competition that was not biased and driven by advertising. but you can't have a passion for cars without bias, nor can a magazine not advertise. but at the very least, a magazine that didn't take advertising bribes like i bet wheels do. bunch of hippies if u ask me.

They should get the general public to sit inside and drive the cars, and tell wheels what they think, without any input from the magazine.

Wheels COTY sounds a bit like European COTY... where they have favouritism towards Fiat.

But if not mistaken the whole "Fiat" thing is more due to the large amount of Italian journalists taking part and as many of us know, the Italians always vote their own produce and think theirs are better mostly due to the design factor...at least in the car industry. Am i mistaken?

Well, no suprise about this sadly.

Im an Australian, but have been living out of Australia for 12 years, but keep watching the Aussie car market.

I have never seen an FG or a VE, but in looking at net pics, and reading Wheels, yes, I sometimes buy it, the FG certainly has taken a huge leap for a humble Falcon. So did the BA and Wheels realised it then. A lot of other mags, associations could see that, why not Wheels. What Wheels originally said when the FG was released, has suddenly been turned around 180 degrees. Does that mean I should burn all the mags that have comparos with the FG as they seem to have changed their minds?

When the VE won COTY i agreed with their choice. Here was a car that was comparable to Mercs and BM's costing double or more. The Falcon can do that. Can the Accord? I think the Accord Euro is a fine car, but it just doesnt have the extra to be compared with cars double its price. So, in my mind that makes the FG special, and not to even get into the final 4 is astounding.

My mother has bought new BMW's exclusively for the past 35 years, starting in 1973 with a 3.0si. Over the time she has had 7, 5, 8, 3 series and when the FG was released, she thought she would be patriotic and buy Australian. She bought a G6E. She loved it, and came out of an 18month old 530i. After 6 months in the G6E, she traded it on a G6ET. She loves that even more. My mother is no fool, and not a badge snob. My father who has a new 7 series on order wishes Ford still did a LWB LTD as he would take one, cos he is impressed with mums G6ET.

I have lurked here for many years, and this is my first post. This is the first time that I really had to say something....

LMAO! Well Wheels seems to have been smoking some grass, so i figured they were hippies? haha:thumbsup:

You're spot on 08-G6E. The FG G6 and G6E Turbo are world class, just so it the rest of the range really for what it costs. I'd happily have one over a Beemer, and many would agree.
