from autoweek.com
Honda Civic Si concept
The new Civic Si could return Honda to the glory days of the late 80s and early 90s when it ruled the sport compact scene, or at least bring it back as a frontrunner in what has, in the meantime, become a fairly crowded field of sport compact superheroes. Honda has entered an Si in the market recently, but with this concept, Honda is making a loud statement that it is back. Can this new Civic Si return Honda to that glory?

I must say I love it, of course its going to be blandified once it goes into production but I'm sure the ricer boys will trick them out. My only gripe is that honda has now blurred the line between themselves and Acura cus this could easily pass as an RSX replacement maybe the RSX will move upscale once this arrives

The RSX will likely be eliminated, and the Si will serve as Honda's youth focused high performace model.
This concept fits with what Honda/Acura have done lately with introducing new models. If you recall the TL was first seen as a concept with few modifications (no door handles, larger wheels, etc.).
I imagine if you give this Si a body colored hood, clear lense headlights, door handles, and smaller wheels you'll be looking at the production version.

Wow, that looks great. Perfect combination of edginess with class.
I think Acura will focus away from the Civic platform, leaving that to Honda, and probably try to use the TSX a bit more. That's how they describe the TSX anyways, the RSX's big brother, or the sedan version of the RSX, even though it's on the Euro Accord platform.
Honda really doesn't need to blandify this at all, there's nothing that can't go into production here (minus hood, lenses, door handles, wing, wheels).

It's beautiful. I can only hope that the sedan and hatchback are as sexy.
And there's no reason that the RSX and Civic Si can't co-exist. The RSX could move upmarket, becoming slightly larger and more powerful. Or perhaps it could evolve into a four-door coupe, growing half-suicide doors.

its so plain, so grossly plain it makes me sick

I never thought they could do it, but Honda has produced a design with ideas that are at least 5 years old for a vehicle that isn't even in production yet. The absurd Cab-forward proportions and starkly plain detailing just don't cut it. And this is just the concept; I can't even imagine how incredibly bland the production version is going to be.

Does anyone see a ton of RL/Legend in this? It's like a 2/3 scale sportier version of the new RL/Legend. Could it be that honda has finally decided to listen to all the criticisms they've been getting about styling?

The front reminds me heavily of the JDM/Pacific Odyssey. Good - but not as good as Honda's other efforts.

This concept is 90% of the production version. The production version is supposed to premiere in SEMA this year.
I love this car, it'll bring the car back to supremacy.

I like it but part of me is saying it doesn't look like a Civic anymore... wheres the sharp back for the coupe. I actually liked that since they've always had it on the coupes. This looks like a mix of the previous solara (front) and the Accord coupe (rear).. not bad though. I hope in production form it looks just as good.
Temple of Vtec says it has 200hp... not bad. NO 3dr or 5dr just sedan and coupe.

I've just returned from an advance charity preview of the Chicago Auto Show... I saw the Civic Si in the flesh. It was fantastic.
The proportions are perfect. It is very low and wide. The interior is unfinished. The most impressive syling are the shoulders that roll from the side of the car to the fenders, and into the nose. It is similar to what we've seen on recent Lexus concepts.
While definately a conservative honda design, it looks like a very powerful next generation civic.

I love this design. It might be a little bland when serialized, but it's just in my liking.

Can one of you brilliant photoshop gurus do a chop of the concept to give us an idea of what the production version may look like?

Good news: There will be a 4 door version as well! Anyone with chopping skills care to take a shot at that? The C pillar will be very similar to current one, if that helps.

Yes, there will be a four door Civic Si following the coupe. The new Exec VP at Honda said in press release it would arrive the following year, likely September 06. Same kit: 200hp, limited slip dif, 6 speed gearbox, wheels & suspension, etc., plus two doors.

I can see this with v-tec stickers on the side with 20 inch rims and huge bumpers, having those teenagers and their v-tec gangs driving them.
Over all it is a nice car, i would hate to see people pimp them up

Its not a bad lookin car, but it does look something like the new acura's and being that Honda is gonna have to come back this time hitting way harder with this car in performance wise when the king of the streets SRT-4 still puts to shame the Type-S that cost anywhere from $3-4k more.

Everywhere else in the world, all of honda's vehicles are labeled as Honda's. As a result, it makes sense for all their vehicles to share similar styling cues.

I hope they dump the Mcphearson struts on the front suspension of the current Civic for the double wishbone design they used to have. For some reason I can't get very excited about this car. I was hoping for more of a radical change than this. The Civic used to be the leader in quality and technology in the compact class, now it's a follower.
