Typical Chrysler concept. Stunning, but won't make it to reality.

Frankly, I doubt the two have any relation. Chrysler styled the car to look like a high-end well-proportioned GT. It just so happens that the end result's detailing is similar to some other cars.

ok look, the Shelby GR1 is directly inspired by the old Shelby Cobra Daytonas, not Aston M<Artin. Aston martin itself more likely copied the Daytona design for its latest cars.

A good buffer to slot inbetween the Crossfire and the ME412.

Is this a reskinned Viper?

taskbearer

No matter what this would be a great car for chrysler, gives them greater reason to kill the unsporty but wonderfully striking Crossfire.

JBlair
01-08-2005, 04:57 PM
It isn't exactly a re-skinned viper. Think of it as a new frame and skin on top of a Viper chassis, with a different engine.

I see a bit of Aston too, and the tailights reminds me Audi, just a little. Its a great design. This is the concept figured in that skecth, isnt it?

Hate what they've done with the grille, it's down too low and doesn't flow at all. I hoped it would be similar to the ME412 at the front, but no.

It ven looks better than that of the ME412. And by the way Chrysler has canned the ME412 because of costs reasons. This car carries the ME412's spirit.

Okay so with the Hemi instead of the V10.. this is going to price ~ the same as the C6? hmm it does make an interesting competition :-)

Looks like Chrysler is keeping the name. Their media site still has it Firepower, actually its Firepower Grand Tourer concept

I loved this car when I first saw the drawings, but in these pics, the front end is a bit of a letdown. And does anyone have an upper front 3/4 view of this thing?

The reason behind that is because Exide battery owns the name, and it would probably cost a lot (unless they work in some whack deal where Chrysler uses Exide batteries or some crackheaded idea like that) to secure it. DCX did register the name Portofino for a trademark a while back though, and that would be a fitting name for the car.

Quote, originally posted by ...DamagedProphet... »

I would think in the same price range as the Viper

According to information on TCC that was quoted from Chrysler, the car would start in the $40,000 dollar range. That would mean that it would start at about where the top end Crossfire SRT-6 would cost.

Car&Driver says it's a Corvette competitor, so it would have to be $40-50.
The rear really does looks like a mix of Aston Martin and Audi.
They could just make a HEMI powered Crossfire.
IMO, this is too much chrome in the interior for a sports car.

iamalittlepepper
01-09-2005, 07:55 PM
If they keep the interior like this in the production version.. it might draw people from the corvette.. just because the interior of the current c6 isn't that nice.

taskbearer
01-10-2005, 02:52 AM
If the interior goes into production, it would ditch the chrome, but it would still look gorgeous compared to the C6 whose interior is so underdesigned.

Definitely has the lines of the Viper, especially the front end. Anyone have the time to do a side by side comparison?

i love the interior. they should put in into the crossfire and then it might actually start to sell.

Dollar for dollar, I would absolutely buy this car over a Corvette. It makes perfect business sense for DCX to make, too. Leverage the Viper chassis into a totally different style and use the Hemi. This car is going to be their follow-on hit to the 300C if they build it.
