Probably this won't happen anytime soon, but I'd like the see the Tiburon convertible to become a real thing - couldn't remember which autoshow and when it was unveiled but what a car - SLK style but probably for half of the price!

Photos copyright Hyundai Auto Canada

This thing is sweet. If this thing were to become real, the price would probably be kept to a minimum, while the quality and standards would most likely be high, similar to the rest of the current lineup.
Does anybody know if we'll (ever) see this convertible? I know people talked a lot about it a few years back, espeically around the time when it was unveiled, at the auto show (that name is still not coming to me), but less and less nowadays.
Please share with us anything you might know. Thanks!
Alright...one more question, but this time on the 2005 Tiburon (decided not to create a new thread in the new cars section since it's only going to be facelifted).
The 2005 Tiburon, set to be refreshened, with a new front grille, fog lights, taillights, headlights, etc - heard the news for a while now, but does anyone know when it will avaliable? My friends said there were already at the dealers, but the dealer at where I am still has the 04s. They are probably trying to clear out the 04s then put the 05s for sale.
I am not convinced the 05 is out yet, even though some dealers might have them already. Also on the Hyundai USA website, the Tiburon is still listed as a 2004 model. Can some please clear the air for me? THanks!

My dealer already has them in stock but they also have some leftover 04's. Hyundai is always very slow to update any of their websites.

most dealers either have them or will within the week.

Yep, I was talking about the facelifted version...BTW I went and did my own research, since it has not been updated on HyundaiUSA's website yet. Gotta say, love the whole new refreshened front
PS: looks like the convertible version is not coming out anytime soon, since there are nothing I can dig up...oh well, just wish it would become production though
05 Tiburon:

(LA Auto Show Website)
2004 Tiburon

(Hyundai Canada)

I remember reading about that roof a while ago. In addition to looking nice with the top up or down, it is also designed to be lighter and take up less space when folded than previous retractable hardtop designs (e.g. SLK).
I'll have to try to find that article where I read it, but I think there was also some mention about licensing the design out to other car manufacturers being a greater possibility than seeing it appear in the next-gen Tiburon.

hwrd_roark, thanks for that information. Keep me updated when you find some new info. Love the design

As for the vert, it was said to show up as an 07, which will be next gen from thesounds of it. Originally Hyundai wanted it to appear with the facelift but I don't think the current car can support it.

I think that Tiburon looks incredible for a $15,000 car! I'd cruise in it anyday.

im pretty sure hyundai wants to add a hardtop convertable to the next gen tiburon. while the concept looks great, i dont think the aging chassis is stout enough for a vert.

Actually, Tib's have always been made with a convert in mind. Even the orginal 97's had a floating windshield. The structure has always been capable of handling it. THe problem has always been keeping it withing a price point while maintaining a high quality level. It just hasn't been viable to do it yet. We had been hoping the CCS would make it in for 05, but that won't happen. I can say you can expect one come redesign time. BTW, good eye people , the top is actually a modified SLK top. That's the real deal, just with glass. Same folding pattern, same motors, less weight. One of the few good things that came out of the Hyundai/DCX thing. Glad they're gone. Nice catch on the new color too BTW. It's called Electric Red. It's maroon in english.
