What constitutes “forward progress” for the team that engineered a vehicle to reach 253 mph, 0-60mph in under 3 seconds, and to 100mph and back to a standstill in less than 10, all while remaining remarkably civil, comfortable, and composed? How do you top [I]that?<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Such is the dilemma faced by Bugatti, the Volkswagen Group’s most exclusive brand and currently purveyors of the world’s fastest, most expensive production automobile: the 16-cylinder Veyron. The perception-altering, record-shattering, million dollar supercar has met much acclaim and is well on the way to meeting its modest sales goals. But its days are numbered.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Volkswagen made clear from the project’s onset that the Veyron was a limited production exercise, a halo car to demonstrate the auto giant’s capabilities and [I]not a sustainable product. After all, at an estimated production cost of approximately £5 million per unit, the Veyron is about as far from profitable as a product can get. Furthermore, many prominent industry insiders have criticized the folly of developing (at massive expense) a 1000+ horsepower, 4160lb. (1890kg) car even as the industry as a whole is shifting its focus to weight-saving techniques and lower displacement motors. While undeniably an incredible car, the Veyron is not without its detractors, including designer Gordon Murray (of McLaren F1 fame), who referred to the Veyron as “the most pointless exercise on the planet.”<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Whatever your feelings about the Veyron, the fact is that it will soon be on its way out. Even with the recent addition of the Grand Sport targa model, Volkswagen is known to be assessing its options for the exclusive marque’s future. Rumors abound of a “baby Bugatti” to share components with VAG’s other premium brands, an equally-exclusive four-door Bugatti sedan, or even an even more extreme supercar to trump the Veyron in performance and in price. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
So how does the most exclusive automotive brand in the world branch out? Very, very carefully. And it’s your job to help them do it. Your task is to design this next Bugatti, whether it be one of the aforementioned options, or something completely different. Whatever the case, your Bugatti must retain the brand’s inimitable style and must, in its own right, stand apart as the vanguard of design, technology, and performance. It must embody, as does the Veyron, a no-holds-barred approach to progress and should be the very closest thing to automotive perfection.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
This contest will close Monday, October 13. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Good luck designers!!!<o:p></o:p>

hmmm im usueless at drawing so mine will be very basic! but ill have a go if thats ok

09-29-2008, 11:41 PM
By all means!

Always good to have newcomers aboard.

10-02-2008, 03:56 AM
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I just messed up my entry. I'll get it in later.

10-03-2008, 01:13 AM
Alright, here's mine

10-03-2008, 10:40 AM
Nice car man! You should have put in some more details. I like the overal stance and colour coordination but it looks a little like a club racer / motorsport car to me. Btw you are getting pretty good at marker renderings...i really like your rendering style on this one.

TBR 427
10-03-2008, 01:08 PM
I'm trying to go retro on this one. Hopefully you're all remember the little wedge-tail 35? How am I supposed to get that onto a modern design :(

Apart from that, it's well on it's way along :)

10-03-2008, 01:14 PM
Awesome design Nelson! :)

10-03-2008, 02:30 PM
A comment to Nelson's bugatti: I like the shape and overall rendering but some critic here:
On the side view I like the most of it, just not the bottom edge on the rear, and as I have said before, wheels will make your drawing look better.
For the perspective, it is an hard shape to do! The front looks good, but the cabine, rear shape and wheels need some work. But you are getting better!

I will try to get sketching here, my dad has just returned from USA (I live in Denmark) with some blue copic markers in all the different blues he could find lol :D So expect a marker rendering from me soon!

10-03-2008, 04:36 PM
Wow, very nice Nelson. In the spirit of the open-wheeled Type 35 but a more elegant tourer; the color scheme works wonderfully. How many seats does it have, and if more than one, how are they configured? And does it have headlights?

Very cool car.

For my part, I am kind of stumped, but have also been looking to the Type 57 for inspiration. Though I am now considering going rear-engined with my entry.

10-03-2008, 04:46 PM
Yep, i'll say it again... Nelson you are improving at an amazing rate. Very artistic entry.

I'm a bit stumped too. I think i'm gonna abandon all retroness and have my Bugatti look very futuristic. I'm thinking 4 door coupe too. Hopefully my bugatti will blow the Estoque and Rapide away.

Or I could enter that Bugatti Beetle thingy I mocked up, what d'ya reckon DoMiNo? lol.

10-03-2008, 04:55 PM
Or I could enter that Bugatti Beetle thingy I mocked up, what d'ya reckon DoMiNo? lol.

It might just be wacky enough to work :P

This is the new Bugatti EB Concours.

A 1 Seater touring super-hybrid that makes 1000HP (Utilizing the Veyron engine) and is purely for show only. 5 will be made, each at 10 million a piece. They are driveable, however like every great Classic Bugatti, it is more like a piece of art then an automobile.

It features fully hubbed front wheels, and enclosed rear wheels. Along with this, it is made for one person: The Driver.

Here is it's first public showing.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/3265/bugattiebconcoursye0.th.jpg (http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bugattiebconcoursye0.jpg)

10-10-2008, 08:04 PM
WHOA!!!!! That is killer man!!! Love your rendering. Thats a great concept ! Love the orange color too. Please do a front 3/4.....that looks menacing. Great design!

10-11-2008, 11:45 AM
Named after the father of Ettore Buggati - Carlo Bugatti, this new 4 seater is the ultimate fusion of luxury and sporting. The car features the 5.2 V10 from the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, but with a double turbocharger, the unit now produces 800bhp. We could have extracted much more bhp from the unit, but in the interests of refinement and cruising ease, we set up the engine in this way. The car will do 215mph effortlessly, and will reach 62mph/100kph in just 3 seconds. The fastest sedan ever!

The car features a 2 part gullwing door - we didn't want to copy the rest with a 4 door layout - and access to all four seats is excellent.

Every car has a 3 tone paintjob, with the hood and top half of the door always being brushed alluminium.

The pricetag is a generous £700,000

10-11-2008, 11:52 AM
Steve - Awesome! I've never seen anything like it... I bet Jay leno has placed his order already!

Ady - I had no idea what to expect from you, but I'm impressed! Like a 4 seater Veyron, but more attractive. I especially like the 3-tone paintjob.

I was gonna enter, but I kept messing up my entry and now I've run out of ideas.

10-12-2008, 08:22 PM
Wow PRO! Thats a really good lookin car. I would never have thought of giving it a 3 tone paint job. That's really clever mate! Love the design........the rear looks a bit squashed from this angle, but that doesn't matter coz its a really funky design! :) I also like the little tyre tread detailing you've done.

Hey is Domino going to extend this contest? I hope it gets extended by at least a few days. I really want to take part this time considering i've missed the last two. Been busy but i'll have my entry done by 2 or 3 days.

10-13-2008, 02:46 PM
Hey guys

I think Bugatti will use the Audi from IRobot technic, and also the old Citroen, can't remember the name.

You got that right, they will cover up the wheels for more aerodynamics, they will also change the headlight, and put LED's for an even meaner look!

10-13-2008, 08:53 PM
I will be sitting this one out as i'm unable to draw due to a broken arm
i will do a Bugatti design and put it in the member galleries once my arm has healed.

10-14-2008, 03:03 AM
It's odd people went with the "hubbed" wheels or the covered wheel looks. That may have worked on old Bugatti's that wouldn't go above 140-150, but with the plans of each of these cars to go over 200 mph, brake cooling would be an issue. But the feasibility of a concept car/only a drawing has nothing to do with this so I will shut my mouth :P

10-14-2008, 11:10 AM
Hows the car gonna turn mate? haha if the front wheels are blocked from moving outwards it wont turn =p

10-14-2008, 02:39 PM
Lol that is an exellent question :P I didn't really think it over..

10-14-2008, 03:03 PM
lol, make it a 3 wheeler.

I'll give everyone a more in depth comment when we vote

10-14-2008, 04:38 PM
Planning on extending this a couple days... is there anyone who could get an entry in if I did?

Steve Neill
10-14-2008, 07:11 PM
Lol that is an exellent question :P I didn't really think it over..

The wheels were Spheres under the Audi RSQ.

They were able to move under magnetic friction, thus resulting in forward, sideways, backwards, and wall climbing momentum.

If I remember correctly ;)

10-15-2008, 06:55 AM

C'mon people, get some more entries in!!!

10-15-2008, 07:19 PM
Planning on extending this a couple days... is there anyone who could get an entry in if I did?

ME! Yes, i'll try my best to get an entry in within 2 and a half days. Thanks Dom!

10-15-2008, 10:07 PM
I might also, but i'm having trouble scanning things recently. but you can look forward to my entry ;)

10-15-2008, 11:40 PM
heres my entry. A quick marker render, i know it sucks but hey.
Its a small supercar to take on the likes of the 911, Audi R8 etc. V8 engine producing around 400kw

10-16-2008, 02:18 AM
I think I will sit this one out, too much work in my way. Will make detailed comments during voting. great entries so far.

10-16-2008, 08:26 AM
I was gonna sit this one out, but I've managed to squeeze out an idea.

2010 Bugatti Baroque - The Everyday Bugatti

The Baroque is a more practical alternative to the Veyron. A $250,000.00 AWD grand tourer riding on a modified
Volkswagen Group D1 platform powered by a 500hp V10 engine, Perfectly suited for everyday driving.

10-16-2008, 09:57 AM
i'm trying to work on mine, how much time do i have? :P

10-18-2008, 12:47 AM
hehe AXIS, the everyday bugatti probably would be 250,000 dollars and 500hp lol. Nice car, I'll talk more about all the cars during voting.

10-18-2008, 05:21 PM

10-18-2008, 05:35 PM
Uh, creepy.

There are a couple of alleged entries I am waiting on, otherwise I would close this and start the voting.

LamboMan? Jordmaniac? or2007? Sound off, we need to close this thing!

10-18-2008, 06:15 PM
Sorry for being such a pain Dom! :( My entry is half done but with the time i have on my hands right now all i can say is that i'll have it completed and posted within about 16 hours from now. Thanks for bearing with me! :)

10-18-2008, 11:34 PM
I whipped a little something up for this contest.

400HP, Front-Mounted Inline-Six, twin Turbo. AWD, and plush seating for four or Five.

The Bugatti EB062

Perspective is a bit off, but I hope you like it.

10-19-2008, 07:37 AM
so since the contest is still on, I some how made some time to do this.

Alsace, France
Although the Veyron is still enjoying engineering praise. The engineers at Bugatti felt that the envelope needed to be pushed even further. In order to regain the fastest top speed from the SSC ultimate aero TT, Bugatti has focused on using aerodynamics to take back the crown. Enter the Bugatti Diabolica. named to cause terror to anyone that dare challenge this car. It is all about top notch engineering excellence and road presence.
The development continues using tried and tested parts of the Veyron in a totally new package.

It is a 5 wheel Bugatti powered by the quad turbo w16 engine of the veyron, but designed for even faster speed with a more aerodynamic tadpole shape. The engine sits in between the four front wheels and drives all 4 wheels. The single rear wheel does the steering. The outer front wheels also steer giving the diabolica a very short turning radius.

The electronically adjustable side wings help stabilize the car at speed by providing downforce. Despite the downforce, the diabolica still posses a respectable Cd of 0.26. a 27% improvement from the Veyron. This is what allows it to reach a maximum speed of 269mph. ensuring that Bugatti remains always at the top.

10-19-2008, 05:38 PM
Well finally here it is......its far from complete but i just wanted to post it before the contest closes!

The Bugatti EB1116.......pure power, pure perormance, pure luxury. The next Bugatti to hold the title of the 'fastest road legal car in the world'. With a whopping 1116 HP being churned out of its W12 supercharged powerhouse propelling it to speeds of upto 450 km/hr (280 mph), no other car shall ever dare look it straight in the eye. Its design is influenced subtly by that of the EB110, a classic, but is still very different from any other Bugatti ever seen, in a class of its own. The future of Bugatti is here. The future of Bugatti is the EB1116.

For those who didn't notice, the holes on the B pillar are a homage to the EB110. Hope u guys like!:)

10-19-2008, 05:50 PM
Hey Domino, please tell me you're going to post your entry soon! You can't sit this one out too. It isn't fair to the contest topic if you do. :( PLEASE dont sit this one out! Without your entry this contest will not be complete. I really want to see your take on this.:bows:

10-19-2008, 06:07 PM
***Contest closed***

Thanks to all entrants for taking on this challenge, the resulting designs are as interesting as they are varied! :)

Voting will be up shortly!

10-19-2008, 06:22 PM
Again, thanks to everyone who got in an entry! Extending the contest got us a lot more entries, and we actually ended up with a good level of competition!

What's more, this contest really seemed to push the boundaries of your creativity. I'm not gonna lie, I was expecting Veyron clones of every size, and was thrilled to see not one of them! Everyone had a very distinct take on the future of Bugatti and that made the resulting field of entries extraordinarily diverse. Voting for this one will be tough.

You know the rules: ten votes spread among your four favorite entries. There will be no exceptions this time; incorrect voting will be disqualified. If you are unfamiliar with the voting procedures or have other questions please refer to the contest rules here (http://www.carspyshots.net/showthread.php?t=2363).

As always, try to put some thought into your votes. If necessary, refer back to the entrants' individual descriptions in the contest thread to get more insight into their respective concepts. And as always, comments/explanation are welcome along with your votes. Anyone can vote, so if you're just passing through, feel free to share your thoughts!

And best of luck designers. Thank you for another impressive showing,

Here are the entries in the order received:

Steve Niell - 4
AXIS - 3
taskbearer - 2
NelsonDesign - 1

10-19-2008, 07:28 PM
This was pretty tough as they were a lot of imaginative concepts proposed. The extension did a lot to raise the competition as most of the entries came after it. I guess the contest was put on at a very conflicting time for everybody.

4 2o6 Very interesting design. The long nose and rearward cab is classic. It has that simple use of forms in dramatic fashion that just makes you want to look at it. The marker finish on the roof made it look like a leather or rag top. But judging from the brown side, its just a metal roof. But then again a leather topped sedan would add another bit of classic persona to this car. And that color scheme is captivating. This got me because it goes retro, but in more restrained way. I do have to say that 400hp would be easier to get from an Audi RS V8 or a Lamborghini V10 as VW has no Inline 6s in its parts bin.

3 Steve Neill Amazing. The stance is just breathtaking. A simple yet powerful looking design. This design approaches perfection. The design develops on the veyron just adds more aggression. And the front grille and headlight integration is just fantastic. This is one cool Bugatti Following the limited production exclusivity theme suits Bugatti image.

2 NelsonDesign In my mind this should be the natural evolution of the Bugatti range. We already have too many uber sedans coming up. A sort of light car Rocket with a roof. It does hack back to the early days of Bugatti racing. You captured the bugatti spirit without any excess. LIke has been said before, a little more detailing would make this thing pop. And save for a few perspective issues. Overall a well done design.

1 AXIS First this is one good render it follows your recent renderings and shows a big improvement in perspective and proportions. The design looks very bull-doggish. Like its about to devour the car in front of it. The slim head lights and upright grille amplify this look. The slope to the rear follows the aston martin proportions, but more rounded. And did I mention that that front end design is just gold.

Everyone did a great job and it shows how well we can come up with new designs. Very good participation. Here are my comments for the rest of the entries.

PRODIGY An unexpected and very imaginative interpretation of the Bugatti front end. The gullwing doors and the smart mechanism is also a neat touch. It looks very viable in the foreseeable future. It has that sculpted lazy look of the Veyron, but in a front engine GT. Concept wise it is good, but for a more pronounced sketch, moving the rear wheels outward a little bit would compliment it. right now it looks like the rear track is narrower than the front.

MartinEDesign This I'm afraid to say is my least favorite of the entries. It's more like a facelift of the current Veyron, but does not look any better. Following the topic closely would have helped. A next great Bugatti would have to demand peoples attention. If the contest was to redesign the Veyron then it would be OK, that was not the case. The sketch looks good and has your usual graphic novel style to it, but other than that there's not much.

mrfdesign A bold looking rear end. Its undeniably Bugatti. It does look like a masculine version of the Alfa 8C competicione. A great looking front engine GT and the Marker rendering is terrific.

LamboMan EB110 meets Veyron. A very nice intergration. The line sketch looks very clean and the design is menacing. I like the circle detailing on the rear side intake. A cool design. One problem is the rear wheels look too close together, but that can be easily corrected and you'll have a standout sketch. I know you had to rush this in so I do understand.

NelsonDesign - 4 : Easily the funkiest chicken of the group, it reminds me ALOT of the old Blue Bugatti racecars, but with a more modern take. I love it man.
MRFDesign - 3 : I know what you're capable of, so this came as no surprise to me. The rear end is very GT-Rish, and the color is very unique. Not to mention the nice shadowing.
Taskbearer - 2 : I loved this bud, it truly was a masterpiece. It looked a bit to much like a frog about to bounce, but the futurism was EXQUISITE and beauitfully executed. Keep up the good work.
AXIS - 1 : I love the color scheme, and the rendering is awesome. However... it reminds me far to much of a past Alfa Romeo work I did...;) And the hood seems at an awkward angle from the greenhouse.

10-20-2008, 12:50 AM
Glad you guys like my entry!

Here go my comments...

Steve- I really like this design, not only is it a great render, but the design itself is very cool.
PRODIGY- design looks a bit bloated and I think the 2 tone would still look better but it is very radical and a nice idea.
Martin- It's a nice idea, but I personally would have done it differently.
MrfDesign- cool design but it might not have enough bugatti in it.
AXIS-It's Bugatti, it's a nice design, and a nice render, but has some perspective issues.
206- Cool idea, and nice design, but the colors don't go together well.
taskbearer- definitely the most extreme out of this group, but it might perhaps be too extreme and not have a great great design.
Lamboman- Great extreme design but I think this type of car is basically a veyron.

Okay, so out of the DESIGN only, I will rate it this...

4- Steve Neill
3- 206
2- Mrf

Everyone did a great job and deserves thanks for entering!

10-20-2008, 01:38 AM
4.- Steve Neill: It reminds me of a modern interpretation of the classic Bugatti racers, Loving the proportions and colors.

3.- NelsonDesign: Another interpretation of the classic Bugatti racer however its a bit too retro for my taste, your execution in the render is flawless. Good job!

2.- mrfdesign: A nice compliment to the Veyron, love the design and the execution, would have loved even more to see how you handled the front of the vehicle.

1.- 2o6: Interesting design, its good to see you breaking away from your sharp angular lines.

10-20-2008, 01:43 AM
4. Taskbearer - Wow is that strange. It's very outlandish, yet still very Bugatti.

3. Steve Neil - Sort of a "Pure" version of the Veyron, huh? Really liking it. Loving the covered rear wheel.

2. Nelson Design - Has some perspective issues, and could use some detail, but it conveys the classic Bugatti attitiude more than all the other entrys. Very retro, very nice.

1. Prodigy - Like the trick doors, and paint scheme.

Great job everyone!

10-20-2008, 11:16 AM
Well done everyone!

2o6, taskbearer and Nelson have all got equal points from me as i couldn't pick a favourite out of the 3.

4 - Steve Neill: This is the perfect progression from the Veyron. Instant classic looks, timeless design, perfect blend of modern and retro. Love it.

2 - 2o6: I think the most likely new Bugatti would be a 4 door. I mean, before the Veyron we saw numerous sedan concepts. Your design is another perfect blend of modern and retro. I'd like to see this in a black and claret 2 tone!

2 - taskbearer: As with almost all of the designs i've seen of yours, this is very much 'out there'. But after the Veyron, Bugatti needs to have an 'out there' product. Love the lines, and the 5 wheel idea. It would certainly be a very special machine. Only crit really, is that a Bugatti needs to look elegant IMO, and this hasn't quite got that quality.

2 - NelsonDesign: Simple yet effective. Another design that blends modern with retro well. Like others have pointed out, this design would look a lot better with more detail, like headlights for a start. Well done though, amazing drawing and render.

MartinEDesign: Like others have mentioned, this is just a facelifted Veyron - something that I doubt Bugatti would ever do.

mrfdesign: brilliant render, but this Bugatti isn't special enough to wear the Bugatti badge IMO. Very Skyline like at the rear, and the sides are very plain. I would like to see how you envision the front of your design, as I believe a front view might have worked better.

AXIS: Great drawing and render as usual, but the front looks a bit like a bulldog chewing a wasp lol. The front has no elegance, but I can see what you were trying to achieve. It just doesn't work for me!

LamboMan: Excellent drawing as usual, again though, this lacks real elegance IMO. The back looks very 1980s supercar, and I love the design. It just hasn't got that X-factor that a Bugatti needs.

Damn I had writen for everybody but the I clicked return and all my text was deleted.
So it wont be as detailed

Steve Neil 4: I like the futuristic looking design, and you have managed to keep the bugatti look

AXIS 3: Mostly for the cool rendering and mean looking front.

Nelson 1: I like your rendering but the design reminds me too much of the old race cars.

taskbearer 2: A sick concept you show here

Lamboman, I think it doesn't look too much as a Bugatti, but a nice design and also cool sketch
2o6 I think your design is pretty cool, but doesn't look as a Bugatti
Mrfdesign I like your rendering but it looks too much as the Nissan
Prodigy I think your design is too close to the current Veyron, but still a cool design.
