Here is 3 of my renderings from Transportation Design 1. In addition to the renderings there is also a 1/5th scale tape drawing.

Very good!

Looks professional with excellent rendering techniques. Also the car itself looks superb, and just how Mitsubishi would probably do it theirselves.

Great stuff Clun!! Where do you study?

ClunBB9
01-04-2008, 05:22 PM
Academy of Art University. Out of the class, only 6 of us passed. In the other class only 4 passed. Trans 2 we're making 1/5 scale half clay sedans.

The car is designed over the Colt package and is larger. However, the drivetrain and the internals of the vehicle are taken from the new Evolution. This is the new RVR and is focused on AWD.

No way! I'm there too! Are you at the San Fran campus or the Toronto one?

Steve.

As far as I am aware, we don't have a Toronto campus. It is either here in San Francisco or online classes only. You must be a little confused, it might have been a different school.

Unfortunately the link you have posted is not The Academy of Art University, it is the International Academy of Design and Technology. They are different institutes. Sorry if it seemed as if I called you a liar, I did not mean such thing. I just wanted to point out that it is indeed a different school.
This is our link: www.academyart.edu our department head is Tom Matano, the designer of the original MX-5/Miata as well as the chief designer for Mazda.

I was told we were affiliated.

:S

I send my cheques to the Toronto Campus, and my program online reads as the San Fransisco campus!

Very well done Clun! The renderings look very good. The design is a bit conservative though!

How many people were originally in your class (i.e. how many failed)? Why did they fail in your opinion? And how would you rate AAU compared to Art Center and CCS?

Very interesting work, preety good...is that charcol or pastel on the bumper of the vehicle?

ClunBB9
01-05-2008, 10:45 PM
The bumper of the car is all warm gray copics. I sell a lot of mistakes once I took pictures of them. When they were on the wall you don't see a lot of it.

As far as failure rate, we originally had a total of 40 kids in two classes. 14 of our class failed or dropped out, 16 of the other class dropped. As far level of our school, AAU is pretty on par with CCS and Art Center especially of recent years. AAU has spent a lot of money in obtaining professionals with a background in automotive design in teaching our curriculum as well as being extremely strict with the level at which we are to achieve before we pass each class.

I see, so how can one fail a class? in other words how do they measure wether you're good enough or not to pass?

great drawings, and i admire your technique. it may not be appropriate for me to give advice since you're undoubtedly a better artist than i am, but i think it'd help if you left more white/blank areas on your renders for highlights. otherwise, great job!

i think AAU has a lower tuition than ACCD don't they? i need to go check their site again...

ClunBB9

The passing of the class is based on what the decision that the assistant department head, department head as well as the professor makes after the final presentation that each student does at the end of every semister. If the quality of sketches as well as work is decent enough for the next class, then the student passes.

I believe AAU is cheaper than CCS or Art Center, but the cost of living here in SF is much more than LA so it equals out in a sense.

wow I love these! Both are very well done! What do you use for the softer graduations? It looks like pastel although smoother than I can ever get pastel to be. They also look very big, it must take a toll on the markers!

ClunBB9
01-13-2008, 04:22 AM
They are all done on 19 x 24 Canson Marker paper, so damn expensive. The markers are all copics which are refillable but they do take a toll of them. My collection of markers have grown quite large and on top of that they are not cheap. The gradation is done by pastel. With the pastel, you take an x-acto and you shave the stick down to powder then apply the powder with a webril pad which is a fine cotton piece.

WOW!

You've got mad skills! I wish i'd have pursued my dream and gone to Coventry school of design now.

I wonder how you, DoMiNo, SV, Mr Burns and Gousmann (and heaps more on here that I can't think of right now!) haven't been employed by car manufacturers yet - you are all that good!

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/ClunBB9/DSC00143.jpg

I changed a few things from when I first did it as a sketch. I think this is my worst one actually because I spent less time on it. But regardless, what do you guys think?

mrfdesign
02-09-2008, 11:08 PM
Nice nice. But your alfa bat will never be able to turn with covered front wheels haha. I prefered the original you did much better. Pretty cool renders. Though i think you could do better? One thing you should do is try improve on your rim design, some of your rims look poor in comparison to the well drawn body of the car.
