wow, i wasn't expecting this car to be shown for a while. it looks good, but i'm starting to wonder when they'll give the impreza a complete redesign, not just a nose job (not that there's anything wrong with the current one, it's just getting a little old)

05-30-2005, 01:02 PM
I don't like it. I actually didn't like the previous one either. I still prefer the original one with round headlights even if everyone seemd not to like it.
I wonder if Stevens (?) who did the previous redesign did this one too or is it a Zapatinas job?
@ndreas

05-30-2005, 01:06 PM
This is just a facelift right? It's werid that they will have changed the front twice now (round headlights to the current one to the one shown here) yet they never really do anything big to the rear, which IMO, needs the most work.

05-30-2005, 02:32 PM
nice..i like the use of the new 'Boxer engine' nose. i hope its just a facelift cause those tail lamps gotta go.

The Water Is Poison
05-30-2005, 02:34 PM
the grille(s) look lke the suzuki forenza.
I'm sure I'll grow to like it

05-30-2005, 02:35 PM
The front looks much more upscale than before, however, when I look at it all I see is a mix of Mercedes SLK, BMW 6er and some other cars. Good, if unoriginal

05-30-2005, 03:22 PM
The center grill in the front really makes it look weird. If it wasn't for that this would be a fantastic looking car. Even with it I still like it, it just hurts it. I'm not sure that I see those cars you mentioned JBlair, but whatever. I can't wait to see the interior, since that was the real jewel on the B9, it ought to be pretty good here too.

05-30-2005, 04:35 PM
This almost looks like two completley different cars. It would help if there were more pics, but it looks like the Gold-ish one is the new car, but the STi is the current car with a new face. Don't know it its true, but more pics would be helpful

05-30-2005, 04:58 PM
Not as hideous as I thought it would be. I ALMOST like it. Better than the current, worse than the bugeyes IMO.
Just that damn centre grille. Too "retro"...

05-30-2005, 05:23 PM
That's more nicer front end of Impreza than current model, but tail lamps still looks almost the same as current one (bad)

05-30-2005, 06:32 PM
I like it... even the grille thingy looks good on it (unlike that B9 Tribeca).... If i was thinkin to buy a small sedan, id deffinetly consider this... even if its the base model.

05-30-2005, 08:14 PM
Another facelift...
What is going on over at Subaru.

But I like this more than the current. I like the bug-eyed one more than the currrent one. The current one just looks... not so special.

Is this a completely new model or another facelift of the 2000 model Impreza? If so, it's the third face its had in 5 years.
If it is just a new face, I have to say that Subaru's search for a corporate 'face' is descending into the comical.

05-31-2005, 07:45 AM
My guess is that this is a quick face lift to consolidate the new family face across the line (except Legacy/Outback).
But I like it more than the previous 2 designs...

05-31-2005, 12:17 PM
When you think about the previous ones, like the bug eyed one and the one that simply tried to get away from that, you're right, I like this better too. Plus every time I look at the nose I get more used to it. I could honestly see myself looking at the regular WRX in a few years.

05-31-2005, 03:22 PM
I gotta admit it is a big improvement from the Bug Eye look... and i do remember that look was big time slated by the Automotive press..
This car is nice.. its just that thing in the centre of the grill that ruins the sleek look.

05-31-2005, 04:34 PM
Considering some of the early photochops to emerge, I think this looks really good.

05-31-2005, 07:00 PM
I'm with you on this one LoneWolf, It looks a lot better than many of the interpretations we saw earlier on. This car in fact looks Great, but I hoped for more changes in the back... but oh well...

05-31-2005, 09:04 PM
Check out the Tribeca, it's the new family face face inspired by the plane building hereitage of Fuji Industries. It's supposed to look like plane.

06-01-2005, 05:56 AM
Eh... it makes the regular Impreza look better, but it still ain't no beauty. AMS are stating that the only big change when it comes to engines is a new 2L with +- 160hp http://www.auto-motor-sport-online.de/d/84055

06-01-2005, 07:54 AM
Yes, for non-north american markets the Forester, Legacy and Impreza's 2.0L SOHC engine is being replaced by the JDM 2.0L DOHC that should be good for 170HP. I thought that the 1.6 liter was also going to be replaced by a 1.5L DOHC good for over 130 HP but that didn't happen...yet...

06-03-2005, 11:39 AM
if you mean that nose i though it was based off of the boxer engine lay out

06-04-2005, 06:04 PM
Am I the only one who loved the bug-eyed look, especially with the rally dual projector beams? I think the current front end looks a bit like the last front of the last Corolla, and as for this new front, let's just hope the complete redesign works with the new corporate face....

06-04-2005, 07:49 PM
IM A FAN!!!
OMG! Call me blind, but this looks great! Much much better than what i expected! Just goes to say, expect an ugly face, and your hopes wont be let down, insted they will be lifted!!!
WOW! The front looks ugly on the Tribeca, but on this, it looks great! Tje silver one looks nice, except i dont like the foglamps design...

06-04-2005, 08:30 PM
I am totally against the new Subaru nose, but they pulled it off nicely on this model. I really like the current model, but this may actually be a nicer vehicle. Very sporty fascia.

My God this looks horrible. The aeroplane grille does not suit the car at all.
If anything, it would've been a lot better if they introduced the aeroplane grille on brand new models, not just sticking it on a car which does not suit the aeroplane grille.
The only good news is that overseas markets now get the 2.5L turbo the USDM STi has.

I like the front central grill and the new headlights, overall I'm very impressed with the appearance of the car, much better than the earlier versions. But then again...who buys this car for it's looks?

06-16-2005, 06:19 PM
I personally like the looks, though the front bumper is a little odd on the STi and the WRX. I have to say I wouldn't mind looking at a WRX, and the interior of that STi is incredible. I don't really see all the complaints about the grill though, I think it looks pretty good.

06-17-2005, 07:53 PM
Designer,
I agree, the best look was the bug eye version with the rally projectors.
This just isn't pleasing to the eye in any way.
When is the Impreza due for replacement?

06-17-2005, 08:43 PM
I like everything about the facelift, but I wish it had been an actual replacement instead of the 2nd facelift for this generation. That being said, Subie did have to extend the nosecone of the car in order to fit the new nose, so the overhang is longer than the old car. I don't mind, especially since the front looks agressive, but makers need to get a grip on how long they make the overhang.

An absolutely awful execution. They should have left it alone and just done nothing. Adding the Tribeca-ish wide, gaping, sappy jowl makes the car look like it's yawning, a very appropriate response to such an uninspired design effort (if, in fact, any effort was even expended on this at all.)

06-19-2005, 02:47 AM
isnt this just the FUJI edition? Does that mean there is a difference between the actual new one and this one?

06-20-2005, 12:28 PM
There is only one new Impreza and these are the pictures. There may be some minimal alterations between the JDM, ROW & US versions, but normally they look 99% alike....

IMPROVED PERFORMANCE FOR 2006 WITH NEW 2.5 i POWERTRAIN
IMPREZA WRX ADDS 2.5-LITER BOXER TURBO
RESTYLED IMPREZA FEATURES BOLD NEW STYLING
CHERRY HILL, N.J., July 21, 2005 Subaru of America, Inc., Americas all-wheel drive leader, has introduced the more powerful, restyled 2006 Impreza 2.5 i and Outback Sport models, featuring new engine technology and additional safety features.
Following an interior redesign for 2005, all Impreza models have been restyled for 2006. The new Subaru front-end design for Impreza features a three-section mesh-type grill inspired by the companys aircraft heritage, plus boldly styled headlights with smoke-tinted lenses. Sedan models feature revised wide-body fenders, while the wagons have their own flared fender design, as on the previous model. All 2006 Impreza models are also distinguished by a new tail lamp cluster design. An aluminum hood reduces weight over the front wheels on the Impreza 2.5 i and Outback Sport (WRX models already had an aluminum hood).
The Impreza 2.5 i and Outback Sport models get a more powerful version of the 2.5-liter SOHC horizontally opposed (Boxer) engine for 2006. The addition of the i-Active Valve Lift system and the Electronic Throttle Control system boost horsepower to 173 from 165 while retaining the responsive low and mid-range torque that Subaru customers appreciate.
All Subaru models are equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment, giving them responsive handling and the safety benefit of optimal traction for all driving conditions.
The optional 4-speed direct control automatic transmission features enhanced control logic for
2006. Revisions to the electronically controlled version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive teamed with this transmission contribute to better handling and enhanced traction performance.
On the safety front, all Impreza models gain the new dual-stage Subaru Advanced Airbag System,
while the Impreza 2.5 i and Outback Sport models also get the front seat head/chest side-impact air bags that were already featured in the WRX models.
Impreza 2.5 i Americas Most Affordable All-Wheel Drive Sport-Compact
The Impreza 2.5 RS models have been renamed 2.5 i for 2006, making their nomenclature
consistent with the larger Subaru Legacy models. The 2.5 i Sedan and Sport Wagon models are the most affordable all-wheel drive sport-compacts in the market. Both models continue with the sport-tuned suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels (new 5-spoke design for 2006) and sport-design front seats featured on the previous 2.5 RS.
Also continued is the generous standard equipment list that makes the Impreza 2.5 i models among the best-equipped cars in their class: Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors and door locks, remote keyless entry, AM/FM stereo system withsingle-disc CD player, tilt-adjustable steering column, security system, an outside temperature gauge and variable intermittent windshield wipers.
The Impreza 2.5 i Sport Wagon offers excellent utility and versatility, providing 27.9 cu. ft. of cargo space with the 60/40-split rear seatback up and 61.6 cu. ft. of space with the seatbacks folded down.
more information: http://www.subarunews.net

I like the impreza, wrx, sti line; my only complaint is its new front, and also on the entire lineup. Same complaint with Audis too.

07-23-2005, 07:35 AM
Erm..guys..i really dont understand why they say this new front-end design is "bold" or "controversial".Either someone likes it or not,it still looks pretty much similar to the current Impreza as a whole. The "bug-eyed" version of the past, now that was both "bold","controversial" and(imo) ugly too! This one looks normal

The power distribution ratio in its advanced Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive has been changed from 35:65 to 41:59 and uses a new mechanical limited slip center differential in place of the previous hydraulically controlled unit. The addition of a steering sensor to the differentials control inputs further enhances torque transfer and overall performance of the AWD system.
The WRX STI accents the Impreza re-style with new design features of its own. A new roof vane spoiler, as used on the Impreza WRC rally car, contributes to stability at track speeds. The new rear underbody diffuser and new side sill spoiler design ensure the WRX STI will turn heads while cheating the wind. The lower-profile hood scoop from the standard WRX aids forward visibility but maintains airflow to the intercooler due to the improved aerodynamics of the redesigned front-end. The WRX STI also gains daytime running lights (DRL).
Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is a complete system comprised of the horizontally opposed boxer engine and the all-wheel drive power distribution system that varies by model and transmission. The aluminum boxer engine and simple, symmetrical drivetrain layout help to lower the vehicles center of gravity, which in turn contributes to precision handling response. All versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive power all four wheels all the time and will transfer more power to the wheels with the best grip should slippage occur.
Source: Seriouswheels
