It is still the same truck Ford first showed TWELVE YEARS AGO! And even though its cheapest in class, its also the tiniest in size.

The fronts and improvement, i really like the new front grille! It looks great...
But as a whole, i mean, the front outdoes the rest of this old truck. They could have at least chaged the door handels!!!

I really like this with the body-color grille (the chrome was too overwhelming). Since Ford isn't planning to do any major tinkering with the Ranger any time soon, this will do pretty well.

Yawn. Sadly, Ford won't introduce a replacement for this aging pick-up until 2010, codenamed P273. This is Ford's way of rediverting their money into other programs. Follows the same suit as GM that held back their redesign of the Cavalier for another 5-years. The P273, like the Cobalt, will be 5-years behind the game.
http://www.thecarconnection.co....html

at least the ranger is still a decent truck, it used to be one of the better ones in its class until every other brand redesigned theirs.

Well they're all pretty much the same rather. If you live in USA I see why the Ranger may be better there (only one Fully made for US market tastes), but elsewhere, they are all pretty much the same...
The Hilux is the best offroad, the Izuzu is the simplest, Ford is the one with the biggest engine, Nissan is the nicest and so on, but they're all same dimensions, same output, same suspension, same 4WD systems, same suspensions... nearly.

I would expect ford to get this right by now, with the f-150 being the best selling vehicle in canada and a top seller in north america, its little brother truck should undergo some major changes. The dakota has been out for less time and has already been redesigned and looks sweet. Also, I feel it is time since the market is gettting incredibly competitive with new new mitsu raider coming out soon, canyon and the new japanese trucks from honda and toyota.

I guess Ford will compete with the new SporTrac against the Dakota & Tacoma and will destine the Ranger for more utalitarian use...

As big a Ford guy that I am, obviously not changing the Ranger is immensely dissapointing, but completely understandable. Ford has pretty much given up on the retail end but does not think its worth the price hike in the commercial world where it domintates to change it. For now, Tundra is the king of the retail mini pickup(one of only 2 toyotas that I think are worth thier weight). Once Explorer recoup's its costs we should see a new Ranger, although I could probably cut up an 06 explorer in CAD and come up with one in about 2 hours....

I still believe that Ford should make the next generation Thai Ranger its "workhorse" entry truck for the US and abroad...
