You sure this isnt a squished Altea? :P<p>As I have said many times before here, they need to sort out their design. Every car they make looks the same, and its really confusing.

That looks VERY similar to an Altea, except for the back lights, I hope the Cupra version is a lot closer to the concept Leon.<br><IMG SRC="http://www.seatcupra.net/images/leonprototype_geneva2005/leon05_02.jpg" BORDER="0"><br><IMG SRC="http://www.seatcupra.net/images/leonprototype_geneva2005/leon05_rear.jpg" BORDER="0">

Wow! This car is beautiful! Much more inspired than its VW brethren... almost a Mazda3 meets Peugeot meets Alfa. They sell these in Mexico, right? Any way I could sneak one into the States?

i agree, it looks great. i wish they could take the time to distinguish all their cars; the leon isn't just an altea with some minor modifications like the toledo, but it still looks alot like the altea

looks great, if a bit weak at profile. I just wish they did not have to use corporate VW interior, i hate the looks!

Those are the cars that sell. E.g Peugeot 206, all Alfas, BMW's achieved higher sales than they would have had they not been so good/agressive looking. And if suspension and soundproofing is anything like the Altea's then Leon will have to sell on it's looks. Once again, like they did with the Altea, Seat/VW has turned a great looking concept into something that no one will notice. It will blend in nicely. You would think that VW would have learnt something from their sub-expectation sales figures of the Polo and Golf. <br>That said, it is still way better looking than most of it's competitors. At least it's a small step in the right direction. <p>Sad thing is, I was actually looking at the pictures of the Leon Concept yesterday thinking I might get this car. Today: It will never happen. <BR><BR>

Sales of this in Spain are going like a rocket. It's a pity that the brand is not very well considered outside our borders. The car itself is very interesting, but does not even give the quality feeling inside that you perceive in other cars of the group (which are really the same car beneath).

Very nice! Its a hell of a lot better than the bland old cars, but now they looks a bit too blobby. They need to tighten up some of the rolls on this car, so it looks a bit more fit IMHO. But its still looks pretty nice, dash design and grille are the weekest bits i think...

<I>SEAT has released details of the new Leon 2.0 TFSI, which it describd as its <b>"most powerful model in the new range so far"</b>.<p>The hottish hatch offers <b>183bhp from its 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine and acceleration to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds before hitting a maximum speed of 137 mph</b>. SEAT reckoned it has a relaxed, flexible delivery though, with <b>199lb-ft of torque available from 1,800 to 5,000 rpm</b>.<p>One trim level is available with the 2.0 TFSI powerplant: Sport. Standard equipment includes twin-zone climate control, front fog lights, CD player with eight speakers, front and rear electric windows, tinted windows, twin exhaust pipes and cruise control. Safety highlights comprise six airbags (driver, front passenger, front-seat side and curtain), tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, ABS and ESP.<p>Visually, the <b>15,995</b> 2.0 TFSI shares its design cues with the other Leon Sport model, the 2.0 TDI PD 140 PS. This means 17-inch alloy wheels, 225/45 tyres, sports suspension and sports seats, although its TFSI badges, located beneath the side indicator repeaters, distinguish this model from its diesel sibling.<p>Against the current competition, it's all a bit underwhelming though. Let's hope SEAT's "so far" comment hints at better things to come.</I><p>5 down, 2 to go..the 200PS FR & the 240PS Cupra next June<p>Source: <A HREF="http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=12289" TARGET="_blank">PistonHeads</A>

Pretty soon, I should think - the Leon looks rather dated compared to the C4, Focus, Astra, Civic etc. IMO.

Agreed.

Btw, what is the current top-of-the-line version of this car? The Cupra K1 variant right? (the one with 240 horses)

Dated? The leon still looks as if it had just been released! I think it is one of the best if not the best looking hatch on the market. Where others have to do alot to impress, i think with the leon it is effortless and In white it is amazing.

It doesn't need a facelift really cos i think this design could do well for the whole 6 year cycle, but i think it could do with the interior being hugely improved with better materials ect. And it would be good to see how they can improve an already beautiful car.

I will have to agree that the Leon does not look dated. at least not in my eyes, especially if you pick a bright color and even more so in the Cupra version which looks stunning.
Cosworth, with the exception of the Civic (which is much younger than the others) and the Astra GTC, i don't quite agree with your list mate. The C4 looks great, yes, but it does not turn heads anymore and the Focus has become so common-sight that no one notices it on the road unless it is in ST guise or has the optional 18inch wheels in Titanium mode.

Agreed.

Even if the car launched in 2005, I can still feel that this car is new and fresh. That's how amazing the design is.

----------------

Oh wait, I've heard of rumors that a Cupra R version is coming (which is reported to have the same engine configuration used in the Audi S3). Damn, that's unbelievably fast for a car of this size.

Pretty soon, this car could fly off the roads at full throttle
